Everything about Saagar's take here is horrible. There is nothing revolutionary about these cars. They are like US cars, because they copied US cars via Tesla. They are not more advanced. Its insanely easy to develop an electric car. You dont have to spend and source the combustion systems. The running train for them is really simple. China subsidizes the shit out of the industry and the feeders to it. BYD got to learn everything from Tesla, from manufacturing methods to everything. Do they have cool features? Sure.... In terms of actually innovation, there is nothing....

It's more than 100%
The Biden Tariffs on CN EVs were 100%. But there are other general Tariffs on the goods from China that also apply IIRC. It's like 150%. 25% on Li-Ion batteries, as well as 50% on Solar cells and semiconductors can all all contribute. But the battery tends to be about 30-60% of the cost of the car - Though if the Salt battery gets mainstream enough, it might be able to sneak by the Lithium battery tariff.
And chances are high you won't want the base model - you'll want the AC or Heater, depending on location, and a few of the other big QoL options - they are more like 12-13k.
After the Tariffs you're a little more than the Nissan Leaf or Chevy Bolt which are the cheapest US EVs at like 25-30k (again IIRC - and I think one of them was discontinued).
It's been a little while and I can't live in frustration at how the US government is actively screwing things up on this front, so I am not living in this space anymore. Things may have changed a little.

As an American expat living in China let me tell you... BYD is only one of MANY awesome EV car companies in China. I bought a Li Auto Chinese EV car a year ago. It is like a spaceship. Amazing car. TESLA should be thanking its lucky stars these are not allowed in the USA. China is by far the king of EV.
