There are a lot of channels (including this one) talking about the private space race, but few are paying much attention to what China’s been doing. Shut out of international space missions for 14 years, they have built their own program, with a strong commitment to the moon in 2029. And their track record has been beyond impressive. Today we’ll discuss the Chinese space program, plus topics relating to tragedies in Kpop, ancient wisdom around meteorites, and the future politics of Mars on today’s lightning round video.

I get the feeling that as soon as the Chinese get close to going to the moon, every American moon landing denier is going to magically believe that the US did land back in the sixties...

@thequisner8185
Don’t forget, without China we never would have rescued Matt Damon from Mars and Sandra Bullock would have died in orbit

@watb8689
it is not a space race, they are doing their own thing their own timeline

@ronyedin
Correction: The US has ZERO miles of "true" high speed rails by international standards.

@night-l7x
Ngl Chinese names of their space station, space craft and other things are so cool

a space race makes much more sense than war and probably costs less while bringing people together rather than tearing families apart

As a railroad employee, I'm crying angry, jealous tears hearing about China's high speed network

@edalok
The US has exactly 0 mile of high speed rail by Chinese standard.

@jcasey8335
Colonizing the moon as a test case BEFORE going to Mars makes far more sense.

@wakewakey
After returning to Mars several years later, all the people were gone with only a single word, croatoan, spelled with rocks in the regolith.

@bambi333rose
it's well known Chinese people are often lactose intolerant, and eat few dairy products. so why would they ever want to go somewhere MADE OF CHEESE???? baffling.

@stefmyt5062
I''m sorry, but the opening statement about China is just obxtively false: "[...] By 2020, China''s innovation and advanced-industry capabilities increased to roughly 75 percent of U.S. capabilities on a proportional basis and 139 percent in absolute terms." Source: Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (a US think tank)

While the jump from a moon landing with people to a mars landing with people is undeniably massive, I'm not quite as ready as Joe is to discount the Chinese from doing just that; They went from a test vehicle launch in 2007 to landing on the far side of the moon and returning material to earth in just 17 years, and once they've built a moon base the jump from there to Mars is not out of the realms of possibility in the remaining timefrx.

@AJ-gt6ts
As an American, I'm rooting for China. Hopefully, it will motivate us to get our act together, but even if we blow it, I'm still excited to see mankind making new leaps into space.

9:18 Americans don''t care about actually being number one, they just care about believing that they''re number one. Look at all the social and health statistics of the US compared to Europe. Europe is better in pretty much every way. Then look at the technology of the US compared to China. China is catching up, close, the same level in a few ways, and better in a few ways so far, and many Americans don''t even see it. We''re going from actually being number one in the 1950s and 1960s, then to the future we''re just going to tell our selves we''re number one, when we won''t be number one anymore at anything. We don''t invest in education, healthcare and other resources for our people like Europe. We do invest heavily in military contractors, and a little bit of space contractors, but the future isn''t about bombing people into submission, that doesn''t work. The strategy for the future is, make the whole world dependent on your technology, and your resource monopoly from space brought back to Earth. I''m not a communist, but I can see that Communism involving government assisted capitalism if in the right hands that has huge plans for the future can be very big and change the world.

I rode on a Chinese high speed train (gao tie, or 高铁)two days ago. No clickity-clack sounds, meaning no noticeable gaps between the rails, which made me wonder how their design handled thermal expansion (it''s bloody hot today!). I will go on another trip in two days so I''ll try to take a closer look at the rail design.

21:30 mark my words, one day we''ll look back on the "pre-bot internet" with wonder and nostalgia, being stuck back with DM-style communication (e.g. chat rooms) because most of everything else is so bot-riddled that it''s not worth using - an encyclopedic graveyard museum seldom used for anything beyond basic google queries, and even then needing thorough vetting because you can''t trust if the info is accurate.
