Let me tell you a story. There was a village leader in China striving to build a bridge in his village. From a long-term standpoint, the bridge would increase the connectivity and accessibility of the region. However, the majority of the residents in the village didn't see it the way as the leader did, because the construction would probably take a few years, and it would cause inconvenience to them transporting their products to the outside world. If this were to take place in the states, the leader would be voted out of the office like hundreds of times.

This boils down to the type of civilization. China is the only surviving ancient agricultural civilization which requires collectivism(for land cultivation, fertilization, and harvest) and patient(you always make seasonal planning for seeding)... where nomads were more opportunistic, come and go, grab what ever along the path.
China was the biggest economy most of the time in the world for the last 2500-ish years since the establishment of the silk road. "The rise of China" isn't correct, should be the return of China.
@pierreshi6102
Yes. Do note that tea, silk, and China were massively profitable technologies stolen by outsiders. Also, during the Song dynasty, China had anywhere from 50% to 90% of the global GDP. Us Chinese have always preferred peace and planning compared to the nomadic rob and run and warring.

Making stuff matters much more (doing) than having ideas (thinking).
@AlexanderTheGreat-f5r
Who says China is not innovating ?
Take a look at this.
China is far ahead of other countries in generative AI inventions like chatbots, filing six times more patents than its closest rival the United States.
China leads the world with 38,210 inventions, far surpassing the U.S. (6,276)
@stephenlock7236
That observation about the short term thinking of the US is very true. That actually makes the US a very unreliable and untrustworthy partner in any treaty or agreement. And this is not a theoretical situation. There is a long list of treaties and agreements which the US has unilaterally withdrew once the incumbent were kicked out of office.
@kaahzvi5820
It is painfully obvious in their foreign policies. Close allies like Canada, Western Europe, etc has to grapple with and reorientate in the Trump era.
@borinvlogs
China is already decades ahead of US, EU and pretty much other countries in many areas. 90% of world's solar is in China, 90% of world's highest railway (bullet trains) are in China, 90% of world's top rarest minerals are controlled by China. China also has 400x ship building capacity than US which is just mind blowing.

An important aspect is in many Asian countries their attitude towards learning. I think that this is similarly important as strategic planning.
@CCY-hx2hr
Many Chinese refer to themselves as ‘读书人’, which directly translates to ‘book reader’, but its true meaning is closer to ‘scholar’. The Chinese culture places great importance on studying and education.
@yaqiwang5242
In US surprisingly lots of people think high education is not needed or not worthwhile partly due to high tuition rates. They don’t realize high education can give you more opportunities, open your mind by meeting people and force you to think hard problems, etc. Culture influences shaping people’s perceptions are also important.
@CCY-hx2hr
@yaqiwang5242 in China culture, to be a ‘book reader’ is a big honor.
I felt same as the west call someone ‘knight’.

Weiqi is all about long-term strategy. Tic-tac-toe is only about very short-term tactics.
@sunnytalks203

@tigading2177
@jameslum8822 That is just natural order of things, W.Europe has long standing history and culture of theft, l00ting, ge no side of natives all over the world, which led them to rapid industrialization, carbon emitters, enormous wealth to fuel ever increasing economic terrorism/sanction on others etc. Now that all their wealth is squandered or tucked away in some off shore accts by American oligarchs with multiple passports. The USUK led west is well on its back to Dickensian era.
@barrywong4327
Well, the Chinese civilization has thrived for 4000+ years with ups and downs. More ups than downs. It has developed a culture of long-term thinking, patience, resiliency and pragmatism. People will make sacrifices without complaints knowing the future will be better, even if they themselves may not see that future themselves.
The American culture is one of instant gratification. Americans have no idea what tough times mean. They’re accustomed to living large and living for the moment. They have no idea what tough times really mean.
The American system is seriously flawed in many ways. The most fatal one is the fact that the system promotes incompetent, short-sighted, narrow-minded crooks as leaders. They talk large, give beautiful speeches, promise the world but they don’t deliver.
China will continue to grow in its influence and contributions to humanity. For its part, the US will continue to shrink in contrast. It is inevitable.

US domestic policy may be on a four-year cycle, but not its foreign policy. US foreign policy has bi-partisan support in the government. Regardless of whether it is a Democrat or a Republican is in charge, the military-industrial complex is in charge.

I have been living in the US for over 30 years. The key difference between China and US is the quality of high school education. Plus self-discipline. Many American people love freedom but no self-discipline. The American public schools are totally failed. Chinese people are working much harder than American peers.

Freedom and self-discipline are not opposites! Freedom is inherent to human nature, while self-discipline relies on cultivation through experience. Only those who practice self-discipline truly understand what freedom means. As the ancient Chinese saying goes: Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire!

All the haters always say China copy and they dont innovate. These people are so ignorant they never leave their bubble.
@MarcoMasseria
Does it matter? How much advancement is actually coming? Flying cars? EV vehicles?
Making stuff matters much more (doing) than having ideas (thinking).
@AlexanderTheGreat-f5r
Who says China is not innovating ?
Take a look at this.
China is far ahead of other countries in generative AI inventions like chatbots, filing six times more patents than its closest rival the United States.
China leads the world with 38,210 inventions, far surpassing the U.S. (6,276)
@stephenlock7236
@kaahzvi5820
It is painfully obvious in their foreign policies. Close allies like Canada, Western Europe, etc has to grapple with and reorientate in the Trump era.
@borinvlogs
@judywu5514
Because Chinese work hard and when China respect other country's own will and help it to develop ,not like America and West countries just to exploit it and get thing they want and left mess
@MichaelBurggraf-gm8vl
An important aspect is in many Asian countries their attitude towards learning. I think that this is similarly important as strategic planning.
@CCY-hx2hr
Many Chinese refer to themselves as ‘读书人’, which directly translates to ‘book reader’, but its true meaning is closer to ‘scholar’. The Chinese culture places great importance on studying and education.
@yaqiwang5242
In US surprisingly lots of people think high education is not needed or not worthwhile partly due to high tuition rates. They don’t realize high education can give you more opportunities, open your mind by meeting people and force you to think hard problems, etc. Culture influences shaping people’s perceptions are also important.
@CCY-hx2hr
@yaqiwang5242 in China culture, to be a ‘book reader’ is a big honor.
I felt same as the west call someone ‘knight’.
@horridohobbies
I always say that China plays weiqi (or go), while the United States plays tic-tac-toe.
Weiqi is all about long-term strategy. Tic-tac-toe is only about very short-term tactics.
@sunnytalks203
@horridohobbies weiqi is the most difficult board game, for chess, it may take 1 hour or so to finish the game, weiqi takes minimum 4 hours or more to finish the game
@Seicks
I think Europe is actually in the worst situation. At least the USA know where their short time interests are. European leaders can't even plan that. Completely paralyzed.
@jameslum8822
Western Europe is resource poor. Miserable decades on the horizon.
@tigading2177
@barrywong4327
@MichaelZhuang
BYD sold more than half a million in October alone, their annual sale is way above 2 millions, more like 5 millions.
@bearpolo3618
It took BYD 15 years to build its first 5 million cars, and it only took 15 months to build the 2nd 5 million cars.
@JD-yz4kr
US domestic policy may be on a four-year cycle, but not its foreign policy. US foreign policy has bi-partisan support in the government. Regardless of whether it is a Democrat or a Republican is in charge, the military-industrial complex is in charge.
@Wecareus
Thank you for bringing an outsider perspective from Portugal. Unfortunately videos similar to this one is indeed the excuse for politicians and media to try everything, no matter how low and insidious, to stop China’s development.
@rdzhang
I have been living in the US for over 30 years. The key difference between China and US is the quality of high school education. Plus self-discipline. Many American people love freedom but no self-discipline. The American public schools are totally failed. Chinese people are working much harder than American peers.
@你我-k7e
Freedom and self-discipline are not opposites! Freedom is inherent to human nature, while self-discipline relies on cultivation through experience. Only those who practice self-discipline truly understand what freedom means. As the ancient Chinese saying goes: Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire!
@bizhope007
Freedom without self discipline is doomed to fail and we can see the results, drug abuse, depression, confusion, lack of self control, lack of common decencies and respect for others... and the list goes on.. sadly.
