McDonald's French Fries.
So, I went to McDonald's yesterday and ordered a large meal. After payment I was just standing on the counter only as there was no body after me. I was looking at this lady who was preparing my order and what I saw was one of the very dirty business tactics.
While she was filling up french fries for me, she pinched the box from the bottom to reduce its volume. It looked like its filled upto top. I shook it and the large french fries became half. I asked the lady about it and she felt freaking embarrassed as I have caught her doing something wrong.
I asked her :- Do you guys do this to everyone or it just happened with me?
She said :- Thank you sir.
I was obviously not satisfied with her reply so I googled & guess what?
Same happened with some other people too.
Some staff have claimed it online that they were trained for this.
McDonald's, what happened to you guys? We were good friends. Why would you do that to me? Don't be so stingy about it man. I still love you though. :)
Next time you go to McDonald's, make sure you get what you pay for. Nobody wants to pay for a half empty box filled with air.

Never order a triangular shaped pastry at any eatery
I used to work out of bistro everyday. During weekdays I used to see a lot of business meetings happening around me (guess that’s how eateries survive during weekdays).
One day I saw a group of 3 folks take a table next to me. The bistro was a little cramped so anyone can hear the conversation on the next table. The bistro was in a Mall & these 3 folks were most likely running an eatery in the Mall. After discussing the sales strategy and other ideas, here is what I heard from one of the 3 folks (who was most likely the floor manager)
Floor Manager (to the Owner): Sir, by the way what are we supposed to do with the cakes that didn’t sell since last 4 days?
Owner (in a super fast reply): Cut them into pastries & sell
I was dumbstruck & turned around to give him a surprised stare on what he just said. Irony of the situation was seeing a triangular pastry sitting on my table in my order as well. Gosh!
Yes fellas, next time you get tempted to order that sweet looking pastry, remember it was a part of the cake that never got sold off.

I have read so many answers, but one name is missing here. Bangalore famous Kanti Sweets.
There has not been even a single time when I have not observed or been victim of this scam. They always charge for more weight of sweets than actual by adding box weight to sweets weight.
Incident of a day:
Me: Give me 500 gm of X sweets.
Seller Fills a box (without cover) with sweets. When the machine reads 544 gm, he stops and yells to cashier to prepare bill for 530 gm.
Me: What is the weight of the box?
Seller: 10g sir. (Trying to justify his 530gm bill).
Me: No, it has to be around 30gm (without cover).

我读了很多答案,但这里没人提到班加罗尔著名的坎蒂糖果。
我从来没有一次没有注意到这个骗局,也没有一次没有成为这个骗局的受害者。他们总是通过在糖果重量上加上盒装重量来收取比实际重量更多的费用。

This time seller puts the sweets box with cover on the weighing machine and the machine reads as 555 gm.
Seller: See, 555–30 (as you said) ~ 530 gm.
Me: Don't try to fool me, this is not the first time I am asking you to do this. But looks like you don't remember it for next time. Put an empty box with cover on the weighing machine now.
Now the seller understood that he is running out of his tricks. Reluctantly he puts one empty box with cover on the machine and that weighs 45gm.
So ideally the weight of the sweets is only 555–45= 510 gm.
Now he billed me for only 510gm saying sorry sir.
I have visited 3 branches of Kanti Sweets in Bangalore and all 3 does the same. So, I can safely assume this happens at all the Kanti Sweets branches all the time.

For the people who are judging me for a small value 20gm sweets:
I don't mind highly priced sweets at first place.
They have put a label on the weighing machine itself saying “ Please make sure box weight is not added in the final weight. “ I always refer to that while making my argument to them.
Cost of 20gm sweets with rate of 800rs per kg is 16rs. May be a small amount for me even, but i am not interested in throwing it in a cheater’s hand.
If they do it with 200 customers on an average day, in one branch. Then, 16*200*30 = 96000 per month in one branch. It is like running the shop rent free and employees payment coming from here only.
At the end, it gives satisfaction that a cunning person couldn't fool me and others don't even pay a heed to this.

Last weekend,I was returning to Chennai after meeting my elder brother.On reaching the Airport,I was informed about the flight delay.
I had spare 2–3 hrs in hand and was busy watching IPL on my phone.After sometime I got bored of it and was having the urge to smoke.I did not have any cigarette beforehand so I was compelled to buy the whole packet.(As they sell only packets)
Conversation at the counter went like this:

孟买国内机场1号航站楼。
上周末,我在与哥哥会面后返回金奈。一到机场,我就被告知航班延误。
我手头有2-3个小时的空闲时间,忙着在手机上看印度板球超级联赛。过了一段时间,我厌倦了后有了吸烟的冲动。我事先没有香烟,所以我不得不买了整包。(因为他们只卖整包)
柜台前的对话是这样的:

Me: Bhaiya ek Classic Regular ka packet dena.(Brother,give me a packet of Classic Regular).Handing him a 500rs note.
Now the actual price of a full packet Classic regular is Rs 300.
He: Ye lo ! (Handing me the packet and the spare amount of Rs 120).
Me: Bhaiya! Ye 300 ka packet hota hai. Rs 200 wapas hoega.(Brother,the packet is of Rs.300.Return me Rs.200)
I was clearly seeing the price labelled on the packet as Rs300.
He: Airport per itne ka hi milta hai ! (The price is this much at the Airport).
Me:Ok bhaiya. Phir aap mujhe bill de do.(Ok brother.Please give me the bill then.)
He was shocked,he hesitated and after a while he responded-

我:哥们,给我一包普通的Classic香烟,同时递给他一张500卢比的钞票。
现在,一包普通的Classic香烟的实际价格是300卢比。
他:把整包烟和剩余的120卢比递给我。
我:兄弟,这包烟是300卢比,还要给我200卢比吧。
我清楚地看到明码标价是300卢比。
他:机场的价格就是这么高。
我:好的,兄弟。那么请把账单给我。
他震惊了,犹豫了一下,过了一会儿,他做出了回应-

He:Aap pehle smoke kar lo,phir deta hu bill.(You smoke first and then I will give you the bill)
He thought I won’t return asking for the bill.I went and smoked.I returned at the counter.
Me: Haan Bhaiya,wo bill de do.(Yeah brother,now give me the bill)
He was horrified.For few seconds he was searching here n there.
He: (Acting innocent) Kaun sa cig. lia tha ?(Which cig. did you buy?)
Showed him the packet.
He: (Innocently) Galiti se jayda le lia bhaiya, ye lo Rs 200.(By mistake I took more,take this Rs 200 note)
That Rs80 would have gone directly in his pocket.He was misusing the fact that people here at the airport are rich and thus they won’t care about the price.
He was ashamed!
I gave him a wicked smile and left the place like a winner!!

他:你先抽烟,然后我给你账单。
他以为我不会回来索要账单。我去抽烟了后回到柜台。
我:兄弟,现在把账单给我吧。
他吓坏了,他在这里和那里搜寻了几秒钟。
他:(装出无辜的样子,你买的什么烟?
给他看了烟。
他:我不小心拿错了,这是给你的200卢比。
那80卢比会直接进入他的口袋。他误用了一个事实,即机场里的人都很富有,因此他们不会在乎价格。
他感到羞愧!
我给了他一个邪恶的微笑,像个胜利者一样离开了这个地方!

As i come from a business family , i believe there are a lot of Business tactics in various businesses that i know.
There are 3 reasons i took up this business in particular.
My family deals in clothes, so i know the ins and outs of this business.
This is a basic necessity of every individual and chances are high that one can get exploited easily.
This is one business where anyone can be tricked. (even the one who deals in them) For Example : ME
I’ll narrate an incident where a customer was tricked in seconds.
I with my father were shopping for my Uncle’s Sherwani (ethnic dress for a Groom in India) and we were able to find a similar piece of cloth as Virat Kohli is wearing in this “Manyavar Ad”
When enquired about the price the shopkeeper quoted it at INR 700/metre.
My dad being a cloth merchant himself negotiated and brought the price down to INR. 465/metre.
We both finally agreed at the said price above and asked the shopkeeper to give us 3 metre of that cloth.
Out of curiosity the shopkeeper asked me what will you make of this cloth ?

i showed him the Virat Kohli picture attached above and his eyes lit up and he had some mixed feelings that i could clearly see on his face.
He was happy that he possessed the same cloth material which manayavar was providing at INR 25k.
He was sad that he could have charged more from us but failed to do so.
He said : “I should have charged you more for this awesome design”. He then turned to his salesman and said : “Rakesh add ‘ 1 ’ before the price we had set earlier.
Remember the earlier price was INR 700/meter and he has now revised it to INR 1700/meter

Now here comes the trick part-
After we were done with all this, another customer (a girl with her elder brother) entered his showroom and asked the shopkeeper to suggest something good for his brother.
He asked the guy what would he like to wear and the guy said “Sherwani mei kuch dikha do” (Show me something ethnic)
And there the shopkeeper had the moment of his life.
He picked the exact same piece of cloth that we bought and showed it to this guy and said “Virat ne Manyavar mei yahi pehna hai, waha 25 hazaar ka hai, yaha sirf 1700/metre”(Manyavar is selling it at INR 25k, here you’re getting the same thing at INR 1700/metre’’) and further asked me to show him Virat’s pic.
The guy’s sister got excited and was convinced at once (Maybe because a lot of girls love Virat) and asked her brother to buy it for his wedding.
They happily bought the 3 meter cloth at INR 1700/meter without any negotiation i.e. INR 5100 for the same piece of cloth for which we paid around INR 1400.

There are a lot of incidences like these that i can share but i hope a lot of people might have got the message.
There have been instances where a shopkeeper has sold a INR 1100 saree at INR 5500 just by repacking it in a different Box.
So clothing is a different business altogether, because everything looks same at times and it becomes difficult for a laymen to differentiate between the two.
PS :- Always try and bargain as much as you can in a retail outlet. You can save thousands of rupees on a single dress.
PS 2 :- Women in particular are easily exploited as they are more tempted to buy the dress they like at any cost and become a easy target for shopkeepers.
A golden advice for all :- When nothing works while bargaining, just say these beautiful lines- “My uncle/brother owns a retail cloth shop and i know how much profit you guys make”. The shopkeeper will instantly mark down the price by 15–20% after hearing this. This works every f*cking time.
So next time you go out shopping for your mother, brother or anyone, you know what to do :)

所以下次你出去为你的母亲、兄弟或任何人购物时,你知道该怎么做了。

A regular morning, i left home to go to clinic. On the way, i hear some abnormal sound from the front of the car, which i easily recognised as coming from radiator fan. I stopped the car and opened the hood. The fan was loose and was getting stuck to the radiator amd thus the noise.
I somehow took the car to the fiat authorised service centre. The service advisor had a look and advised that i will need to change the whole fan assembly as it is broken and will cost approx 14000rs. I asked him to check it whether it can be repaired or only the fan may be replaced as the motor was fine. He said, no it only comes as a whole assembly. I had no choice, so reluctantly agreed.
They took my car inside and removed the old fan assembly and started putting a new one.
After some time, i went inside to check on them and asked for my old assembly. They had already removed it from the scene. It wasn't near my car. Someone had already taken it away. I asked them to give it to me. They said they have thrown it in the junk as it was a waste. I was already smelling a rat.
I told them that I wasn't going to pay unless i got my old part back as it was my property and however useless it may be, they have no right to discard it. Then someone brought it back from where it was carefully hidden behind another car .
I kept it in my car boot. The mechanics there were visibly disappointed with that.

一个普通的早晨,我离开家去诊所。在路上,我听到汽车的前面有些不正常的声音,我很轻易辨认出声音是来自散热器风扇。我停下车,打开引擎盖。风扇松了,卡在散热器上,因此发出了噪音。

By then the car had been repaired, old part kept in boot, they took my car for cleaning.
Bill prepared, reluctantly i was about to pay the bill. Reluctant because i wasn't somehow not too convinced with the amount that i had to spend. Back of my mind, i just felt something was not right.
So before paying, i asked the service advisor to show me the old part and tell me what was the problem in that.
It consists of a fan motor in a frx and a fan held together by a nut.
In my old assembly the fan had separated from the motor.
When i asked him to show me the problem, The advisor said, the fan had broken. I checked the fan, I couldn't find anything broken. He surely didn't look too happy with that.
He tried to throw some more shit to me that the screw threads are damaged and the motor is damaged. I asked him to check it infront of me. The motor worked fine. The threads were fine, the fan fitted properly over the motor and had no apparent problem.

到那时汽车已经修好了,旧的部分放在后备箱里,他们把我的车拿去清洗。
账单准备好了,我很不情愿地就要付账了。不情愿是因为我不太相信我必须花费的金额。回想起来,我只是觉得有些不对劲。
所以在付款之前,我请服务顾问给我看旧零件,并告诉我其中有什么问题。
它由机架中的风扇电机和由螺母固定在一起的风扇组成。
在我的旧总成中,风扇与马达已经分离了。
当我让他给我看问题时,顾问说,风扇坏了。我检查了风扇,没有发现任何东西坏了。他看起来不太高兴。
他试图向我解释更多的东西,说螺纹损坏了,马达也损坏了。我让他在我面前检查一下。马达运转良好。螺纹良好,风扇正确安装在电机上,没有明显问题。

Only one part was missing. The nut which connects the fan to motor. Probably it must have gotten loose and fallen off somewhere.
I went to the manager and told him all that happened. Even after that, the supervisor kept trying to convince me that the motor is weak and will fail in few days and that they don't have any screw in stock as it is not available separately and i need to buy whole assembly only.
Now i sure wasn't going to buy any of their nonsense. I told him to just put back the old fan assembly in my car . The manager told them to put a screw and fit it back. Then within a minute they were able to find a nut and fit it back in my car. I was just too happy to have marginally escaped from a scam trap.
it has been almost a year and its been working perfectly.
The moral of the story is: Never believe what the service advisors tell you. Keep yourself aware of things and be vigilant.Always carry back your old spare parts. It may save you lot of money.

One cheap business tactic I faced was when I travelled to Manali. I booked a hotel for around 700 rs per room from AirBnB for 3 days. I travelled all the way from Bangalore to Delhi, and from there to Manali in a bus. By the time I reached it was around 8pm and dark. I asked the driver to go to the location mentioned in Airbnb. However, once i reached, there is no hotel, nothing, just bare land.
Finally I called up the host and she(mind you it’s a “she”) directed me to some fancy hotel. After reaching, they(her male servants) so politely carried my bag and showed me “my” room. Once I unpacked and had my dinner, the lady in the story came and told me the charges are extra for the room and it’s at 2.5 k per day instead of 700rs. And mind you, no heater, no wifi, no nothing.
When I asked her where the room I booked was, (this is after I asked my taxi to leave), she said it’s around 4kms from here and you need to call another taxi. I called another taxi and the place mentioned was nothing like as described. Also there’s no one leaving anywhere near that remote area and it’s so inside the village you can’t even have basic necessities carried out. On top of that the male servant threatened that he won’t be able to give any room service in that remote area and demanded me take a room in the fancy place. Out of options, I choose to stay fancy for one day(paying out my entire budget for 3 days of stay). The very next day I checked out, paying 2.7k for one day(300 for heater).

Thanks to AirBnB, I got my third day of booking refunded, so I ended up paying 1.5k which is not so much considering I escaped a huge scam. I left Manali then and there the very next day, after a visit to the so longed Snow mountains.
People like these deter the growth of beautiful tourist places like Manali.
The hotel was Himalayan Chalet. They have multiple branches across Manali and scam solo/inexperienced travellers through such dirty tactics.
