But all this is with respect to permanent movement. India is not all hunky-dory. There are lots of issues such as traffic, air pollution, noise pollution (my wife actually got terrified of the no-noise neighbourhood the very first time), the mostly chaotic and corrupt administrative support system, the disorganised way of life, the stress, and many such things. But whatever it is, it is my home. I love my home. Is is the top 5 countries to live in? Perhaps not but I won’t go anywhere else.

Apart from that if you are low on budget then Tier 2 cities of Punjab like Ludhiana is a good option too. Its inexpensive and water is clean. Power cuts are not so frequent so it can be considered. Local population is welcoming too. Stay away from cops .. anywhere in India. They can rob your peace of mind

Kantha, I don't think you are familiar with the city I have settled in— hyderabad. It's thoroughly cosmopolitan. It's the northern most part of South india and the southern most part of North India. You can comfortably get by in hindi. Fruits are ridiculously cheap. Milk, eggs, meat and vegetables are of very good quality and abundant. Other than two months of the year, the weather is ripping. If a hyderabad can help you he will help you. They are nature's gentlemen, very polite and courteous. After chandrababu and KCR, infrastructure is tremendous and growth of industries and offices, exponential. This is indias most happening city.

Venkateswara Swamy Swarna Well, since I am born and brought up in India, I am quite used to the living conditions. I have lived in small towns and big cities. I have lived in project sites. I have lived without the so called basic amenities that present generation takes for granted. I am 72 years old now. I have traveled extensively within India. I have been abroad once - to West Germany in December 1985. Through films, actual videos and social media, I am familiar with life in many other countries. So, if I am given a choice to choose my country of residence now, I will still choose India. May be I will choose a different place in India though I am quite comfortable in Hyderabad where I stay now. I may choose some peaceful countryside or some hilly place…or may continue in the present location.

Giri Yes of course! This is not due to any patriotism or compulsion that I was born here. Come on, what is not there in our nation. 1. Tourism. You’ll see every landscape in the country. Ranging from Himachal Pradesh to Rajasthan, India has all climates to experience. Only the US and China come near in this aspect. 2. Any tastebud can find food here at an affordable cost. This is the least possible in any western country. 3. We have a peaceful nation. It’s not like Syria wherein you see your livelihood disrupted. 4. Ambiance. You’ll never feel lonely here, even if you’re a foreigner. People are almost everywhere throughout the country. You’ll find a friend somehow. 5. Festivals. One of the advantages of having more number of gods is that you get too many occasions to celebrate. If you’ll ever ask me if India is the only country to live in, I am afraid the answer is No. But it is surely in my top five list.
