Depends on the car.
Lexus will run forever with almost no repairs, just regular maintenance.
But, have your own mechanic check things out thoroughly.
But don't call it an investment. It's a car. It needs insurance, maintenance like oil and filter changes, replacing brake pads, car washes, space to park, etc.
The cash flow is all one way, out of your pocket. The value keeps going down. That's no investment. It's the cost of transportation.

This one sold recently for $376,000. The car I wound up buying for $1,500, a 1958 coupe, would be worth about $100,000 today.

I’d call that a pretty good rate of return.
I’m a dedicated car enthusiast. I wish I still had many of the cars I’ve owned over the last fifty years I would have a very expensive collection. But the thing is, you never know what the future holds with collectible cars.

Most of them are money pots after 10 years and the resale value on most continues to plumet.
If you had a rare model with low mileage, you may be able to make a profit.
If you want a particular car and you have the money for continual repairs, buy it. Just don't expect to make money.
There is always an exception but usually sports cars if kept nice are more likely to increase in value than a luxury car.

No. A purchase is different than an investment. An investment is an asset you purchase to bring a return or an appreciation of the asset. Doing this will achieve neither unless you are using it as a limousine for hire or some luxury car you think will become a classic.
That said, most luxury cars are driven by mature, responsible people and not 25 years olds. If you want a luxury car and find one in great shape you can buy one at a very modest price.

No. With few exceptions, automobiles are not investments. They depreciate over time and during that time they cost money for storage, maintenance, insurance and repair. Unless the vehicle is used commercially and money earned by it’s use covers those as well as operating costs and leaves a profit worthy justifying the business risks it can never be considered an investment.
With few exceptions, daily driver type cars do not go up in value as they age.
At 10 years old, most passenger vehicles are at the end of their life expectancy. Manufacturers will no longer carry parts and teh aftermarket may have little interest in supplying parts for a limited production model, most of which are no longer on the road. So, one could get stuck with a very expensive full scale model.

Repeat after me:
A car is not an investment.
I don’t care whether it is a luxury car or a beater. It is an asset that you can assume will depreciate.
Of course, some cars have gone up in value. The 1957 Porsche Speedster I decided not to buy for $800 in 1966 is worth a lot more today:

Who knew?
But here’s the thing: who knew? I just wanted a car that was unique and drove beautifully.
I still drive Porsches. My current ride, a 2005 Carrera (997.1). I paid about $38,000 for it six years ago. Today, with 75,000 miles on the clock, it would probably sell for upwards of $42,000.
I won’t sell it anything soon.
Buying a car as an “investment” is a fools errand. My current Porsche has been a great automobile because it has held its value and is a blast to drive. I’m going to call that an excellent value.
If you want to get a return on your investment, don’t look to assets that almost invariably depreciate. Buy cars because they’ll serve a specific cuntion, whether it is basic transportation, recreation, ego-stroking, or all of the above.
You’d be far better off putting your money into an investment that typically goes up in value—like rental property. You can control an expensive asset using leverage—a little of your money (a down payment) an a lot of other people’s money (the bank). Leverage provides a multiplying effect on the equity. Equity is the real measure of wealth.
For example, if you buy a rental house for $400,000 with a $100,000 investment (25%) and the property goes up in value 5% each year, your equity will grow like this:

Depends on the car and valuation I would look at the demand and the historical price increases however I would never ever personally look to buy a vehicle for an investment
I own two classic motorcycles
and a v8 hot rod I built with a 1932 model a sedan body
the prices and valuation of these have skyrocketed but so has the tax, running costs, repairs and that kinda takes away all the profit capital gains
the only way I see this profitable is if you buy an old classic and Chuck it in a barn for 15 years however I would say stocks shares a property would be a better investment
I’m not trying be to put the idea down but it’s very hard to make profit out of vehicles if you want one or it’s your dream affordable car I would buy it because you admire and love it if you make money on the side great.
Of course you could see a healthy return for a bargain
out of interest what is this vehicle ?

If the investment is in your comfort and driving in a car which is perfectly reliable and meets your needs then a 10 year old prestige car is ideal. It will be cheap to buy, expensive to service but if you don’t do many miles that won’t matter.
If you are a high mileage daily driver my comment will not apply!!

Is it a good investment to buy a luxury car that's over 10 years old?
Cars are never investments. They always lose money. If you are asking if a 10 year old luxury car can be a daily driver, yes. A 10 year old low mileage Lexus would make a good daily driver. Most other luxury cars built in the last 25 years have been total money pits.

My Honda is combustion engine but has been paid off for years and runs well. Costs me little to own and run. If I ever need parts, that's going to be a problem.
If permitted to make broad generalizations, I would conjecture that the world is going away from combustion engines to EVs. All should be focused on getting solar so we can charge our cars at home.

It depends on the luxury brand and your intended use.
All luxury brands carry a high risk of expensive repairs if anything goes wrong.
Most luxury brands are thirsty on fuel, and on insurance, if you are going to drive them
Some luxury brands have high investment potential: my son in law has a Mitsubishi Evo that is in showroom condition has low mileage is driven very little is meticulously maintained - and has been shooting up in value.
That is an investment!
Buying an older Rolls Royce or other limousine could be a business asset that produces a healthy return if you have a wedding hire company.
But I would look into the spares and repairs risks and costs for any car over 10 years old that you actually intend to drive

Investment? No. It is a depreciating piece of personal property. If you want it for transportation, then buy. The only time a car is considered an investment is if it is sought after by collectors and appreciates in value. Generally they tend to be rare, very limited production or custom vehicles.

Okay, here is how I look at it. No car is an investment, save for a sext few (e.g. Ferrari F355, BMW E30).
There are basically only two main checklist items you need to consider:
1.Do you really love the car?
2.Have you done enough research on it?
If the answer is yes to both, you’re good to go!

No.
A ten year old luxury car most likely will need work and will still depreciate.
You might get lucky and buy the car for less than what it is actually worth but the odds are against you.

Probably not. It would depend to some extent on which luxury car, and that is hard to predict. Most luxury cars depreciate faster than other cars. People who can afford luxury cars consistently seek the newest and shiniest. In general cars are not good investments, they are a transportation expense. Part of the expense is the depreciation. Very few cars appreciate in value.

It would depend on what the luxury car is. I think American luxury cars like Cadillac or Lincoln would be fine. I wouldn’t touch a German luxury car with a ten foot pole (Mercedes, BMW, Audi all have reliability issues). Japanese luxury cars, like Lexus are very good (my sister has a ten year old Lexus SUV with 150,000 miles on it). If you can afford it, it’s always better to buy a new car (a used car can be somebody else’s problems). I just bought a 2020 Toyota Camry SE 2.5L 203 HP 4 cyl with an 8 speed automatic with sport shift and I love it. Great mileage (mid thirties) and very quick and fun to drive.. Don’t go near a Volkswagen, new or used. I bought my son a used 2004 Volkswagen Jetta that was a complete piece of shit. When my Dad died I gave my son Dad’s 1997 Buick LeSabre Limited which only had 18000 miles on it, and that car is still running like a clock. Bill had to pay a Volkswagen dealer a $1K to fix the fucking thing’s turbo charger so the car would pass the Pennsylvania emissions test so he could sell it to a friend. That VW had low miles when I bought it used, steer clear of them! My mechanic says German cars are “over-engineered” and over-priced as well. Also, don’t buy a new GM or Ford product with that stupid “stop/start” technology. A car’s engine shutting off each time you stop and then restarting when you step on the gas??? And several dozen times a day in traffic? That sounds like a host of engineering problems down the road to me. It’s crazy for just getting an extra one or two mpg.

Depends on many factors. I have always preferred the new one - because is still unused, so i would get to explore its full capacity while all the mechanical parts are still fresh from the factory.
Basic cars are not so bad at all - I owned one. I know, for some who are used with the luxury like the latest infotainment system, leather upholstery, multicolored lights in the coupe, heated front and rear seats - well, they would probably get the luxury 10-y old car. Beside the basic equipment, the only negative i can point to with the new car is that the engine needs to have at least few hundred miles in order to unfold its true power and capacity. Until then you might not be satisfied with the car and its performance.
The good thing about the luxury car - it has the comfortable tweaks one might desire, plus the driver might feel and hear the car. What i would not like is the fact that someone may have already “taken the soul” of the car. You have no idea how and where it was driven, some problems may be masked.

Buying used is a risk especially 10 years out or with 30K miles or more. Each situation is different. Do your research when buying or leasing a car. Never give your complete trust to a dealer even if they say the car went through a 500 point inspection when buying used. The next car I buy will be a new model 3 Tesla. I will look into other brands in the future based on my needs.

For my personal opinion, just personal, I prefer to buy a brand new basic car rather than a second hand car, no matter it’s luxury or not, for a simple reason of a second hand car always tend to have higher failure rate, and the luxury car parts usually are more expensive than the basic car, if you’re unluckly, you will have to face a high maintenance cost.
And the second reason is you never know what story happened in a second hand car, you really can’t take further imagination.

Unless you have a very keen eye for the current and future market, don’t do it.
Luxury cars are often less reliable and more costly to maintain. Most vehicles continue to lose value over the years and the more miles they get.

Most cars are not investments unless they are collectibles. If you don’t know if it is a collectible then you don’t know enough to try to invest.
