Florida spring break partiers see Miami mayhem while Fort Lauderdale avoids chaos

At least 322 arrests in Miami Beach between Feb. 27-March 19, 70 guns seized, 2 people killed — stark contrast to relative calm in Fort Lauderdale

Spring break parties shut down Miami Beach with mayhem and violence, but the good times rolled on about an hour up the coast in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

【Spring Break

Bikini-clad co-eds, who flocked to coastal vacation hotspots in the Sunshine State, spent hours on sunny beaches, soaked in the nightlife and enjoyed a week-long break from their studies.

Fort Lauderdale police told Fox News Digital in an emailed statement, "There were no major incidents related to the 2023 Spring Break season," minus two "notable" arrests for a random assault on a disabled man and a fight with a security staff member at a bar.

It was a stark contrast to the chaos in Miami Beach, where two people died, a third was wounded and several were injured in stampedes after gunshots rang out twice over the weekend, and unruly crowds were seen going wild and jumping on occupied cars, prompting a citywide state of emergency.

Between Feb. 27 and March 19, there were at least 322 arrests, including at least 165 for violent felonies and drug-related crimes, and 70 guns were seized, according to the city's state of emergency declaration.

That's a 27% increase in felony arrests over the same time period last year and 200% increase in homicides, according to the city.

On Sunday, Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said numerous people visiting the area brought guns and "created a peril that cannot go unchecked."

"In response to the illegal and unruly behavior exhibited by these large crowds during March 2023, and in order to provide for the health and safety of persons and property, the city deployed hundreds of law enforcement officers," according to Miami Beach's state of emergency declaration.

Law enforcement officers from several jurisdictions have been working up to 14-hour shifts six days a week, the document notes.

"Despite unprecedented police presence, for two consecutive nights, Ocean Drive has been the scene of deadly shootings. So, tonight, Sunday, March 19, we will be implementing a midnight curfew for South Beach as part of our emergency powers," Miami Beach Mayor Daniel Gelber said in a statement.

"We don't allow drinking on the beach, unless you're being served by a hotel," Trantalis told CBS. "The bars are open to a certain time, they're not open as late as other cities are. We try to curb the excitement a little bit."

I was in Florida last week for spring break. Tens of thousands of spring breakers crowded the beaches. It was not a very diverse crowd. I didn’t hear of, or see, a single incident anywhere. Everyone was nice and cordial. Even my son noticed a big difference in the make up and the behavior of the crowd.

The black demographic has a separate ‘black spring break’. A lot of the businesses literally close during it.

The contrast between the two spring break locations is literally like....Night and Day.

And Then Kamala Said: "This was in Florida, which is a state that borders some other states, and spring break is a break commonly held in the spring, when college students celebrate the beginning of spring, due to the spring weather, because spring tends to be warmer than winter."

This article is the best argument I have seen for raising the voting age to 21.

The funny part is that these same kids think we should pay for their schooling.

Would anyone like to solve the puzzle??

Exactly, anyone can look at pictures and videos of both places and get the message.

Getting drunk every night, going to bed with random strangers, lack of sleep, sun burn, constant peer pressure, bar food, pregnancy scares, fights, hangovers, and risky behavior. The idea of "spring break" actually taxes the body significantly more than any college course will ever do.

Before I retired I stayed at the the Fontainebleau for a conference every year (it was the hotel featured in the opening scenes of Goldfinger). My wife would head down to (at great expense) South Beach.
A couple of years ago she went back to South Beach with a girlfriend. She didn’t enjoy it, the place had “changed”.
These events may be a reflection of that change.

When you hold people to lower standards they tend to operate at those lower standards. It isn't rocket science.

The fact that pictures from Miami Beach are notably absent is telling. If they were published, the reason for the disparity would be immediately obvious.

Several news reports said that the people being arrested were predominantly “local”, rather than tourists. The few mugshots available add clarity.

They have money for this but are unwilling to pay for their loans that they signed for.

hector25
They are counting on the woke agenda to indoctrinate voters to vote for loan forgiveness for college. They are succeeding as the latest poll show Americans in support of loan forgiveness. This is like all woke policies. Look at the support for trans people,.

In many cases, parents pay for tuition, etc. The student loan is party money, hence spring break. After graduation, they need a bail out. I have been told this by many parents and graduates.

Amazing what difference a visible police presence makes. It's something to consider when voting for defunding the police.

I live in a conservative area; we never defunded police and the criminals that were under the impression law was suspended here as it was in nearby liberal areas are in prison. Meanwhile the nearby liberal areas are blaming police for the increase in crime.

seademhawks
Yep! But more or less police isn't the problem. The problem exists when the local DOJ laws create a proverbial revolving door. Instead of prosecuting criminals and keeping them locked up, they give them a slap on the wrist and send them right back out into the street to commit more crime. And repeat the process. You could triple the police and they won't be effective in reducing crime when we have no justice. We need to return to executing murderers, and providing harsher sentences to those willfully committing crime. Especially crimes against persons.
