Probably not missing , more like never delivered! I remember ordering parts to repair equipment in the Army .Supply clerk would say they were delivered but they never made it to supply warehouse. Things get lost when billions of dollars in parts are spread out all over the world in multiple logistics loops or they were never produced in first place just padding some defense contractors finances.

I think we missed the point: the parts do not exist. They were never manufactured. That is why there is no record keeping - this is an endemic problem. 100% return on no effort is much more profitable than price gouging parts you have to manufacture. Think of the benefits to the seller: zero storage costs, zero warranty returns, zero manufacturing cost. They probably have a book entry for items purchased but still in production. It takes everyone to be in on the caper for it to work. Otherwise they disappear.
