How poor is Vietnam compared to the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia?

In many ways, Vietnam is the richest country I have ever lived in. What it lacks in money it makes up for in the content of its citizen’s character. Saigon, for example, is a city
of about 10 million, it covers over 2,000 sq km. Unlike where I used to live, California,Saigon has no homeless people sleeping in tents, or doing drugs. There are no mass
shootings, even crime is a single-digit fraction of what goes on in most US cities.Virtually all of Vietnam’s people work, live in clean homes, and can afford to live without food stamps or government handouts. Most of the people are nicely dressed, havepersonal transportation and even many children have cell phones. Many of the people are
very well-educated and speak English, they are polite and kind. But the place where onenotices the richness of the country most is in the loving consideration that pervades
society. You don’t have to be here very long to come to understand that people reallycare for the welfare of one another. When there is a traffic accident people rush to show
their compassion. They show concern for damage or injury rather than break into anargument over fault, as is the custom in America, and most of the other countries I have
lived in.

The first time I saw this, I was reminded of an accident I witnessed on a small highway inCalifornia a few years ago. The car I was following had a blowout of its right front tire. The car went off the road then swerved back on and rolled over several times, finallycoming to rest on its top. The driver was an older woman with two of her grandchildren, allthree were bruised and bloody, and one of the girls had a broken arm. Thankfully the verynext car that came along was a doctor. Sadly, however, he refused to even get out of thecar. He mumbled something about lawyers and insurance. We were out of cell range, and theonly assistance this doctor would give was a promise to phone the police when he had a cellsignal. We waited for over forty minutes for the police and an EMS ambulance to arrive. Theway I see the world, in all the really important ways Vietnam is a far richer country thaneven the United States.

100% agree. I live in HCMC and its so as you say. This people are real humans, with
dignity. After 4 years looking for my place in the world, i found here my place.

I live in Philippines and out of all the Asian countries mentioned, Philippines is the poorest and Vietnam is the richest

I love Vietnam. But Vietnam is not rich country.

Yeah the people in the South of Vietnam are very kind and open in general. The people in the North while still have the same kindness, appear much more cold at first glance

EXACTLY!! I WAS JUST WALKING OUT WITH MY OLD CLASSMATE DOWNTOWN GETTYSBURG. SUDDENLY.A TRUCK MADE A TURN N D OLD LADY WAS JUST ABOUT CROSSING D ROAD N SHE WAS HIT!! OH MY LORD!! I TOLD MY FREN..WAIT IM GOING TO HELP HER,..NO!! U WILL BE SUED IF ANYTHING HAPPENS THEY WILL BLAME U!! ITS D MOST SICK THING IV EVER SEEN N HEARD. THIS IS AMERICA FOR U FOLKS!!

My intention is not to be a spoilsport. I’ve been to Vietnam twice and have been fascinated by all of it. A wonderful country in many ways. A Big ‘However’ is that pollution is just awful in Ho Chi Minh. VeRy Very depressing. The waterways are treated like trash bins. There are in fact, a lot of unscrupulous Vietnamese, who prey upon tourists, more so than in Thailand, where I lived. Plus, the political situation has a lot to be desired. I spoke to several Vietnamese who were extremely depressed about human rights issues. The communist party is utterly corrupt, and does not care about the environment, which is a huge issue for me. Nevertheless, Vietnamese Are wonderful people with an amazing culture. I hope this serves as a balanced representation. Oh. The food is wonderful. So if you only look at certain things you would think Vietnam is better. The United States is in fact, cutthroat, but it’s also innovative and complicated. good Americans, and good Vietnamese have a lot in common.

I don’t know what country you’re talking about buddy but that’s not Vietnam. I’ve been living in Saigon for awhile now, and while Saigon is a great place, some of your
descxtions of Saigon are flat out lies
