Trump's America is not really into great international humanitarian gestures, so just as with Venezuela it was their oil he was after (oil which is extremely expensive to obtain and process I might add), with Greenland it's their minerals. He doesn't care about Greenlanders or protecting them, of that you can be 100% sure.
