Maybe that stereotype exists in the francophone world, but I've never heard it and I've been learning French for about a year and a half now. The stereotype I've heard is that the French are assholes. I've also heard that that's only true for Persians. The other stereotype is that you're all very sexaully liberated or promiscuous depending on how you look at it.

When I was in Canada you could definitely hear the ‘Canadian raising’ element but it wasn’t as pronounced as the stereotype makes it out to be - to my ears, ‘about’ sounded closer to ‘aboat’ than ‘aboot’.

I think you (along with Germans) can be direct but calling that rude isn’t right, I don’t think. Thats relative and especially the Dutch I’ve met so far have been super polite and mostly very friendly.
