The big cost is the asbestos that is riddling the building originally installed for fire prevention. Then there is the electical wiring which is at best utter rotten and likely to cause a fire. Least they have the Asbestos! Then there is water leaking into the building all over the place and stonework that needs to be removed and replaced. It's one of the most important buildings in the UK with just about the most complex restoration project ever undertaken. If it comes in under 100 Billion I would be surprised.

They should really get a gague of public opinion on this , my view would be to move parliament and all associated government stuff to some modern buildings and do away with the horrendous reputation of politics and politicians, they have ruined the sanctity of that place. Imagine how many people that kind of money could help, the quality of life it could bring the country as a whole. I feel like this type of spending is something we should get to vote on tbh.

There’s reasons it costs so much, because it’s a heavy structure falling into the River, and stabilisation and doing so without affecting the building up top or damaging it, is not cheap.

The big cost is the asbestos that is riddling the building originally installed for fire prevention. Then there is the electical wiring which is at best utter rotten and likely to cause a fire. Least they have the Asbestos! Then there is water leaking into the building all over the place and stonework that needs to be removed and replaced. It's one of the most important buildings in the UK with just about the most complex restoration project ever undertaken. If it comes in under 100 Billion I would be surprised.

They should really get a gague of public opinion on this , my view would be to move parliament and all associated government stuff to some modern buildings and do away with the horrendous reputation of politics and politicians, they have ruined the sanctity of that place. The site could be a good tourist attraction and museum on the history of politics and handed over in part to national trust and private companies to fund repairs ( and get another quote)

Easier to start from scratch. Remember parliament is grade 1 listed. The majority of the place will have to be carefully taken apart refurbished and put back together all whilst parliament continue to use it.
This is probably highly over egged and I have a feeling it includes more than just a refurb and the headline is bait but honestly right now I cba to read it. You’ll never get it done for anywhere near €700m though

Imagine how many people that kind of money could help, the quality of life it could bring the country as a whole. I feel like this type of spending is something we should get to vote on tbh.
