March 11, 2026, proved a bad day for merchant mariners with three attacks on ships - one in the Strait of Hormuz that led to three mariners going missing and the crew having to abandon their ship, which was on fire. There were two other attacks inside the Persian Gulf, and all seem to be victims of unmanned surface vessels. There was also an attack on the port of Sallah, Oman and tankers are shifting to the port of Yanbu in the Red Sea.

Back in the day when missiles first started flying in the Gulf {the Eighties} I used to chat down the pub with a tanker skipper when on leave. he was having to run the Straights of Hormuz as his normal route. Basically he told me he used to sh*t himself every time he made a transit. The threat of a missile was bad enough in it's own right, but his biggest threat he feared was being hit due to what they were carrying. Some pretty nasty nasty chemical stuff by all accounts, transiting outbound. But that's another story altogether.
