Eli what made the transition from UNIX to Linux possible was the POSIX standard that Stallman help write. Using that as a guidepost they were able to create the GNU utilities that were initially the same as those on UNIX. BTW, you don't see any more new Unix is because the last company making is Oracle which is still making SPARC devices running Solaris. There is the free version of Solaris called OpenSolaris, Illimos, and OpenIndiana. Interesing video sir, thanks!

We paid almost a million dollars for run time and source code for Unix 3. We collected and processed Magneto-Telluric data using PDP11/23 in the field and mainfrx in home office. We sent reel to reel tapes by overnight mail, and management wondered if we could just use 300 baud modem to transmit the data. Not much seems to have changed in some ways, but am glad I don't have to transport PDP11/08s with core memory.

I’m old enough to remember when Huawei did something like this with Cisco IOS. Short-term may have sucked but these days we have IOS CCIE’s and JNCIE’s earning Huawei HCIE’s.

I just seen where there are oil tankers allowed to go through but they can't buy oil with the american dollar. Not sure if it was one currency they are forcing every one to trade in or just making sure it is not the dollar.

I think it's more akin to how Java works, you could write programs in Java or Kotlin etc let the compiler generate the byte code that the JVM could run on multiple CPU architectures. It's not a novel concept, I am surprised it's taken this long for any corporate entity to pick up given the juicy margins.

Eli what made the transition from UNIX to Linux possible was the POSIX standard that Stallman help write. Using that as a guidepost they were able to create the GNU utilities that were initially the same as those on UNIX. BTW, you don't see any more new Unix is because the last company making is Oracle which is still making SPARC devices running Solaris. We paid almost a million dollars for run time and source code for Unix 3. We collected and processed Magneto-Telluric data using PDP11/23 in the field and mainfrx in home office. We sent reel to reel tapes by overnight mail, and management wondered if we could just use 300 baud modem to transmit the data. Not much seems to have changed in some ways, but am glad I don't have to transport PDP11/08s with core memory.

I think it's more akin to how Java works, you could write programs in Java or Kotlin etc let the compiler generate the byte code that the JVM could run on multiple CPU architectures. It's not a novel concept, I am surprised it's taken this long for any corporate entity to pick up given the juicy margins.

And so eventually a deal will be made ,some kind of bribery, that will be accepted by the persians that will end the iranian blockade for the west . Already Russia said they have received very interesting propositions to not only end iranian conflict but the ukraine one too. So in the end a deal will be made ,that will allow the Orange man to save face , that could be acceptable for most sides like IRAN ,Russia ,China and US. Because the alternative is a very incredibly expensive painful decades long war that nobody wants.
