Their chickens would be productive for one year, then are killed. For chicken soup lovers like me I would buy these scrawny birds for a cheap price and boil several for 3 - 4 fours. The soup stock was great for soups and sauces.
I asked the hutterites if they tried to find a market for the year-old layers. They informed me the best they could find was a Mink farm in Washington state.
Just a side story from my childhood chicken chores. Every morning I would go and gather the eggs. On some mornings (winter), I would find a dead frozen chicken, which I brought to the kitchen for our supper that day.
During the early 1980's I went to see the "Fiddler on the Roof" (Broadway). When the lead actor said...
"there are only two times a Russian Jew eats chicken, when one of them is sick", I knew exactly what he was talking about.

good large scale chicks hatching but throwing out week chicks is extreme cruelty & i would never ever throw them as they are lives given by Allah ( God ) almighty # i would grow them separately & sell them at low price to those who have are living in poverty #
