Omar Lotte, future doctor.
The procedure of getting into medicine depends on where you're from. It Is different everywhere. Certain countries have a strong emphasis on academics, whereas others have a more holistic approach to admission. You should also consider whether your target country needs an undergraduate degree prior to attending a medical school as well (but generally, most don't e.g. European/British medical schools, and most Asian medical schools).
However, in my opinion, you should focus more on your academics for now. Try getting good grades in school, make sure you are within the top percentage of your class cohort. If you do not receive good grades you simply will not get into medical school. It's great to focus on subjects beyond your current level of study (just as you are doing now) only when you are free from your school studies (e.g. in the summer). The universities will not get a good impression of you if you tell them that you studied physiology, anatomy, etc but did not perform well in your school. Your future university's first impression of you will be your grades. Although you are only 14, it is unlikely for your universities to look at your current grades (depending on your educational system), but the idea is to get adjusted to the constant stress (and possible failures) you will face. It is a competition. If you can manage stress earlier & better than others, you will be a better candidate than others.

Another tip would be to focus on understanding your country's medical educational system. If your country requires an undergraduate before medicine, start thinking about which college you want to attend your undergraduate education at. Of course it is too early, but keep it in the back of your mind.
It is pretty early for you so don't get too stressed out about anything. Just start thinking about your college, extracurriculars, admission process, etc. It's great to be proactive with impressing your future universities but one thing you have to remember is that they will not necessarily care what you did when you were 14 years old (if that is your motive, as many prospective medical students get too involved in purely impressing their universities, that they forget about everything else. Try building personality as well).

Although it's excellent that you are learning medical-oriented courses, and it does seem like you're really interested in medicine, be aware that most prospective medical applicants at your age (or even older) don't end up choosing medicine at the end. It can be due to burn-out, financial issues (a big one!), personal issues, stress, depression, etc. Only a very few can make it to the end. However, do keep your options open for other backup fields. If you suddenly find interest in business, your physiology or anatomy knowledge won't be of so much help. Although, it is a great way to see if medicine is really for you (i.e. if you don't enjoy the subjects, then maybe medicine is not for you).
I'm also a prospective doctor as well, and generally I'm commenting on a typical 5 to 6-year course of medicine (where an undergraduate is not required). I might not be the most qualified but it's worth a shot.

No, not at all.
You are what, grade 9 or 10 and at least 7 years away from being in medical school? Focus on doing well in high school so your grades and SAT scores get you into university and then focus on those courses to get a GPA commensurate with what it takes to get into medicine.
Focus on having a life instead of only studying. Medical schools in the US are looking for candidates who are well-rounded and have a level of maturity, life experience and communication skills in addition to academic achievement.

Reading case studies is frankly a little bizarre as it is not going to help you get into medicine or with your high school or university studies. Read a book instead. For enjoyment and self-enlightenment. Hang out with friends. Play sports. Be a frigging 14 year-old.
You are filling your time beyond your normal classwork with things that are not important in getting into medicine and it is not necessarily healthy over the long term.
You are better off developing effective study habits so you can easily make time for you just to be you. Otherwise you run the risk of flaming out.

Kim Masters, Md Medicine, Harvard Medical School (1972)
I agree with the comments, but really, being a Doctor requires a lot of interpersonal skills also, so join clubs and social gatherings to get to know the complexity of how people relate to you and you to them. History and English, especially plays and novels are good for this. Also learn how to write . Take a grammar course or one in creative writing to learn these skills. Volunteering can also provide opportunities to try out your ideas in that world, and maybe provide some leadership skills. I began my interest in medicine when I was 6 and almost died and was saved by a tracheostomy and antibiotics. Usually a choice of medicine is part vocation and childhood experiences are part of this development.
Kim Masters

Eesha Ashok, mbbs from SCB Medical College, Cuttack (2019)
not if u are an Indian. In India before we can get a seat in any medical college we need to appear for an entrance examination which comprises of questions from three subjects: physics chemistry and biology. Now that u r 14 u must be in std 8/9/10.
My suggestion to you would be to focus on maths right now. Because that will help u in solving questions of physics and chemistry. Regarding biology I'd suggest u to focus on the standard text book.
Reading anatomy and medicine and cases would be beneficial only after u get into the second year of Mbbs as u would have a little base by then.
U need to understand that Mbbs course is there to make u a doctor and entrance is to sext students who are mentally sharp enough to cope up with the knowledge and pressure. It is not there to see who all are doctors. That kind of exam is there to assess students who want a seat in post graduate courses.

Excellent. Now and then go outside and get some fresh air. Play sports and spend time with friends and family. Read history and geography and romantic novels. Later there will be more than enough time to study the sciences in college, medical school, residency and fellowship.
Stay healthy and good luck.

As a senior in highschool, who just graduated and is planning on going to college for medcine. I wish someone gave me this advice. I sold my soul to academics thinking it’d help me get into a better college.
I wish Id had other passions besides school.

Well, Dr. To be Hazen, it's not too late. You'll be a fine doctor, because you are willing to do what is necessary. Find some opportunities to volunteer. With this pandemic, shouldn't be difficult. The Red Cross and Samaritan's Purse are excellent places. Both desperately need you and both have top notch medical field hospitals. I'd start with Samaritan's Purse.

Virrually all of my passions and hobbies developed in college. It's a great environment for finding yourself so to speaks, so don't worry too much about that. As a graduate of medical school this year though, let me tell you it truly is important to pursue things you enjoy, no matter what they are, for their own sake. Good luck!

I'm currently in college studying biology and am going to apply to med school next year. Not to discourage you, but doing anything before college is pretty much pointless. You won't remember most of the stuff you are looking into, and a lot of it isn't going to help you anyways. If you really want to prepare to become a doctor at the age of 14, take as many college courses as you can. Some high schools and community colleges offer dual enrollment where you can take college courses in high school. They are much easier than actually taking the course at a actual college and you can get the credits and courses out of the way. I know a lot of students who pretty much “skipped” their first year and a half of college and went straight into upper division courses for their major. Take the basic intro classes for writing, psychology, biology, and chemistry. This way, you can have more time to study for the MCAT when you are actually in college. you need to do well on this test if you want to get into med school.

This is not a test you study a couple days or weeks for. You want to study for this test for the majority of a year if you want a really high score. When i started college I was much further ahead than all the other freshman because I took college courses during high school as well and didn't have to take any boring intro courses. AP classes also kind of fulfill this role, but you are putting in a whole year of work and the exams are very difficult. AP classes are definitely not worth it IF you decide to take college courses in high school. To sum it all up, don't study on your own yet. Use your time before college to take introductory college courses, preferably courses bio majors need before they start upper division courses. Don't worry about studying until you actually get to college.

Edit: one thing you can also do before college is get some volunteer hours in. Med schools want to see volunteer hours in clinical settings, but don't really care about anything you do before college. These are more for getting into a good college.
Also, you are way too early for all this lol. I know friends who are already in med school and I have a cousin in his residency. None of them even knew they wanted to be doctors until they got into college and started finding out what fields they enjoyed.

Yes unfortunately the American education system horribly thought out. That’s where the real hard journey begins, when the students are already adults and their brains does not function nearly as sharply as kids. You really have to give it to China when it comes to education, they know to stuff down all the important concepts during the K12 years. And you can relax in college. But it NEVER hurts to study and prepare early. This is where Americans failed.

You have an aim in your life at this age and that's amazing. But this is not the time to read all these, the time will come when you gotta stress, when you gotta study all these. At that time, you'll have no other option but study. So enjoy this time. Play football, read novels, enjoy your childhood. When the time comes, with the compassion you have, you'll definitely crack it up. But with that stress, don't let your today slip away! All the best!
