For my country though, we are still considering EV's and have practically no charging stations anywhere. This infrastructure is very needed if anyone can be persuaded to switch to EV.

there is no reason to push for EV adoption unless the country is also going for renewable. if the country has 100% of it energy from coal and gas, EV doesn't help. like in my country Tesla are not consider "green vehicle" because as a high performance EV, it actually would burn as much CO2 as combustion cars when you factor the CO2 the powerplant would have to release to produce the power required. we really need to work on power infrastructure first before dreaming of EVs. China having the advantage of great rivers could build huge dam that are the most effective renewable energy source in the world, it great to see them sparing no expense to develop that potential energy. i am a firm believer of team Dam, sadly I have no great rivers around me to build dam.

This video triggers a memory for me.Back in 2013 I travelled on a public bus from Zhongdian (Shangri la) in Yunnan right across the high peaks and plateau to Kanding, Sichuan. I recognise some the towns you mentioned e.g. Litang. It was an utterly fantastic road trip with only down side being that the cabin would often fill up with cigarette smoke. The landscapes are immense. Ascending and descending all day between 3500m and 4500m, above and below the treeline and snowline. The first night was spent in a small town with a big monastery. Made it right through to Kanding the following day, deep into the night, as the bus driver was forced to fit snow chains on the gradual descent toward Kanding. Some of the sections were impossibly steep and downright dangerous.Not a high quality road but a minor miracle there is a road up through there at all considering the terrain.I think the high points are just under 5000m through there. Although it was April there was heaps of snow but plenty of two wheel drive vehicles ploughed through without using snow chains.

For my trip I drove on Toyota Landcruiser which is one of the most ideal vehicle. As much as I love electric vehicles, there is still much to be done. Imagine 10% of Chinese population owns an electrode vehicle. There is not enough charging station to cater. So current electric vehicles owners are still enjoying their honeymoon period.

Which is why I always say battery-operated devices are great... till you run out of juice. On a sidenote, I wonder if anyone has yet invented some portable handcrank car-charging device for emergencies.
