How can the trainset levitate without electricity?
According to Earnshaw's theorem, it is impossible to levitate a system made of permanent magnets only (unless it has something to stand on while unpowered)

"The new system uses magnets with rare earth elements to create a constant repelling force".
Sounds like rows of neodymium magnets placed north-north or south-south, repelling each other. Neodymium is a rare earth. However, presumably they will still need electromagnetic forces to drive the train forward, or backward, or to stop it. It will be interesting to see how this works in practice and what the final operating cost will be.

How replicable is this and how widespread can this maglev system be used if the earth elements they're using in it are RARE?

Using rare earth magnets means the cost of making this train if far more expensive than traditional maglev train. At the speed it's running it's better and economical to use traditional light rail trains.

They already have maglev trains in France but this is truly the first suspended in the air type of its kind. Electro magnetic technology is far more advanced than we understand just like the Americans use the kinetic magnetic rail gun tech

Strong permanent magnets are made using Neodymium, which is not abundant. This system cannot be adopted everywhere.

It seems like the title is quite misleading...
At first I thought that the train uses no power at all. However, from my understanding, it turns out that the "no power" part was how the train can float without the electricity having to generate a magnetic field, the train movement itself still needs power.
So, that means, if the power is cut out the train can't move but still floats, whereas in traditional maglev train the train won't move and float.

Maglev Technology was first developed by English inventor Eric Laithwaite with the world's first commercial maglev train opened in 1984 in Birmingham. For years the American & Japanese & South Korean trains have been using Maglev Technology.

Am I missing something? I see a bunch of articles featuring "permanent magnet" trains being used in other countries already. I see one article that dates back 2012 that shows a Korean trains using "permanent magnets" Are you saying it is China's first or world's first? I'm very confused.

thats awesome! permanent magnets were always too expensive to consider doing this. I wonder how they made it feasible.... or maybe this is just an expensive proof of concept like Elon's hyperloop track
