My family's first sedan was a black version of the BYD F3. My parents purchased it for just a little over 70,000 RMB over 13 years ago. At that time, our budget wasn't sufficient for a Toyota. As a student back then, I had a rather negative opinion of BYD, to the extent that, after obtaining my driver's license, I never actually drove that BYD F3.

Today, when I compile a list of potential cars to purchase, it exclusively includes domestic brands. Within the price range of 150,000 to 200,000 RMB, there are no global competitors that can match the quality of domestic vehicles. The competition among domestic car manufacturers is intense, with many features that used to be found only in cars costing around 300,000 RMB now available in models priced just above 100,000 RMB. In contrast, Japanese and German cars within the same price range offer limited features, and their 2023 models show little improvement over their 2020 counterparts. They are even reluctant to incorporate larger screens for their infotainment systems, and interior color options are often limited to black. It's challenging to comprehend why someone would still opt for a Toyota. Whether you have a personal preference for them or not, BYD consistently offers a model that deserves consideration when compiling your car shopping list.

The Japanese wanted to monopolize power cells so they literally blocked off almost everyone else using patents. However, Japan’s small market means that they can’t make the tech economic enough to be wide used, and they also didn’t do anything about storage and transportation of hydrogen, which is the main hindrance of hydrogen power.
So hence everyone else essentially ditched Japan and went to develop battery electric instead, making it the mainstream and pushing hydrogen power into the sidelines. Nonetheless, given that hydrogen power has immense potential if the problems it have are resolved, I suspect what Tesla and the Chinese EVs are doing is that they are waiting for Japan’s car industry to crash (it’s already in decline) so that they can scoop up all of their research cheaply and then develop hydrogen cars of their own.
So this is why I say Japan was real stupid. Had they not tried to monopolize hydrogen they may actually be in Tesla and the China EV’s position today.
日本人想垄断氢动力电池,因此他们实际上封锁了几乎所有其他使用专利的人。然而,日本市场狭小意味着他们无法使该技术的成本下降从而被广泛接受,而且他们在氢的储存和运输方面也没有做任何贡献,这是氢能的主要障碍。

Not even close. U8 is way boxier with an old design back with modern twist. To call that the same as land rover is you being sour.

History repeats itself … The method outlined below was the precise way in which the Toyoda fabric spinning company entered the automobile manufacturing business in the mid 1030’s. A younger son went to the USA and worked for GM (I think Chevrolet division) in order to learn how to make engines. Returning to Japan with a mid-30’s Cvevrolet Master, it was disassembled in an aircraft hangar and engineering students produced detailed drawings of every component. Having owned a 1954 Chevrolet panel truck, the resemblance of the straight 6 “Stovebolt” engine to that in a 1970’s Toyota Land Cruiser was astounding. Note that both manufacturers continued to produce this engine into the late 1980’s.

In US, we don't have the privilege to buy an affordable and reliable car, like BYD since our government was controlled by the 1% entrepreneurs, who see such products are highly competitive in the market. Instead,those entrepreneurs have been promoting the unreliable usage of EVs in Northeart due to the cold weather. That's why many people would still prefer gasoline engines, or hybrid system.

BYD is indeed a good example, but if you think that today's Chinese companies are still repeating the BYD route, you are wrong.
Look at NIO’s cars, who did they copy? Completely original design and original technology, outstanding. I took a closer look at its engine bay at the Norwegian Motor Show and even crouched down to take a look at the chassis. I think it even surpasses the level of Mercedes Benz. Apart from being expensive, there are no drawbacks.
Did you know that it can replace the battery fully automatically in 5 minutes without charging? Tesla was an antique in front of him!
