Ah, there it is. There's that much vaunted Christian love, charity and tolerance. Doesn't it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

Wait, why wouldn’t you want to give atheists more time on this earth to hopefully become believers?
Do you just hate atheists so much you want to see them die and supposedly burn in agony for all eternity sooner rather than later?
Not a very Christian attitude, from what I remember from when I was a Christian….

I am a born-again Christian, an organ donor, and a long-time blood donor, and I have NEVER considered such a scenario. I have donated over 138 pints (17+ gallons) of blood so far. I have indicated on my driver’s license that I am an organ donor. (How on Earth can you consider yourself both a Christian and an organ donor if you think it is appropriate to set restrictions on who can receive your DONATED organs? (Also, for the record, a donor’s organs will be given to the neediest person, no matter what his or her beliefs are, and donors cannot restrict who gets their organs. The same is true for blood donors.)[1]
Please go back and read the New Testament, particularly the story about the Good Samaritan. You might learn something about generosity and unconditional love.

Perhaps you’ll allow me (an atheist), remind you (who claim to be Christian) of the following:-
“Christ died for us while we were yet sinners”, Romans 5:8.
Now, ask yourself this, “What would Jesus do?”
BTW. I’m an organ donor. Would you, dear Christian, be willing to accept my atheist organs to save your life or that of your child?
Yes, thought so.
PS: I'm not surprised the OP posted this shameful question anonymously. This sort of unloving, judgmental, attitude brings faith into disrepute and is in no small part why I am an ex-Christian.

Where in you religion is that acceptable? Where is it acceptable in the Bible? Where did Christ ever say the story of the good Samaritan would be no longer part of your religious belief. Ever read Matthew 25:31–41. Christ didn’t say feed only hungry Christians or only make sure Christians get medical care. The Bible said one is obliged to care for the stranger as if they are family, not one word about making sure they follow your beliefs, he said STRANGERS.
So we know you are not following the words of Christ so how is it you say you are a Christian? Christ according to your book says you are to love others AS MUCH as you love yourself. NO EXEMPTIONS, none. According to your book you are required to love atheists, gay people, people of other faiths, people of other races, other political parties, other skin colors. You are required to love them and to do nothing to them you wouldn’t want done to you. You need an organ do you want someone to tell you sorry I am a X and I do not donate to Christians.
Sorry sweetie you are not a Christian because Christ was woke and requires Christian to help others, including strangers.

You cannot specify any criteria for the recipient(s) of donated organs. If you attempt to do so, your organs will not be used.
As a Christian, surely you want to donate your organs out of genuine kindness and decency, not to punish a sick, suffering person for not sharing your beliefs? That’s not a very Christian attitude!
Mary W. Matthews
Wait, are you saying Jesus DIDN'T command you, as a Christian, to love atheists as much as you love yourself (Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31)? Or are you saying that Jesus commanded YOU, specifically, to sit in judgment on atheists and condemn them in his name? This question sounds a lot like the group the Christian Testament calls Pharisees — standing at the Quora 'streetcorner' advertising your piety.
Samantha Poe
Oh absolutely! After all, Jesus donated his entire life, body, mind, and spirit, dying a long and gruesome death strictly to save religious folk who already believed in God. Next, he was laid to rest in a tomb for three days before coming back to life, at which point he visited the Pharisees (religious men) and said, “Atheists, am I right?” and laughed with his friends about how the atheists are subhuman and not worth saving. After exchanging a few clumsy atheist jokes with his religious friends, he said, “Hey, you know I just died for you guys, right?” and then the Pharisees were all, “Yeah man, of course… but you know we’re already religious right?” and he was all “Oh for sure, but you guys are just so perfect that I thought you deserved a little pat on the back for your efforts.” Then the Pharisees exchanged confused glances for a few long and uncomfortable moments before Jesus said, “Well, I guess my work here is done! You guys are saved twice!” and went on his way.
I may have misquoted some of that, but I’m sure you know your Bible… right?

As a troll, you can be an organ donor. Organ donors can choose to have any categories of people exempted as recipients for any reason and express their will on Quora. Their organs will be used with no consideration for their choice, though. Stupidity don’t affect organs. It might be related to some brain deficiency, but the brain isn’t usable for transplantation, therefore it makes no difference.
Joe Devney
No, for two reasons. First is the practical part: if you are an “organ donor,” you are dead. You don’t own anything. However the donation is handled where you live, someone is empowered to follow protocols and give those organs to whoever is most deserving according to the medical criteria in those protocols.
And I would bet money that the organization that makes those decisions does not know or care what the religions of the potential recipients are.
The second reason is religious. What you suggest is so profoundly un-Christian that you will lose whatever reputation you earned with God by choosing to be an organ donor in the first place. Jesus would be angry with you.
It would be up to God whether this demonstration of hatred toward your fellow-man keeps your soul out of heaven. I won’t try to read God’s mind on that score.

The laws for how you can decide on organ donation vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I have no idea where you live, so I have no way of answering your question. Neither does anyone else.
I live in Israel, where if you sign an organ donor card, you can’t make any stipulations.
For what my opinion is worth, I believe that organ donors should be allowed to stipulate any conditions they want. After all, it’s your body, your choice. If you want your organs used solely for immediate transplant but not for research, you should be allowed to decide that. If you agree to donate your organs solely to men above the age of 47 whose names begin with a “V”, you should be allowed to decide that. If you want your organs to go solely to a Christian, or only to White people, or anyone other than a Jew, you should be allowed to decide that.
But I don’t make the rules.

From a practical standpoint, that would be difficult to administer. Many organ donors die suddenly and they must be operated on immediately. Medical professionals and officials have more important matters than trying to determine what God(s) this person might have worshipped. One easy solution: Simply exempt yourself from the program and refuse to allow anyone else’s organs to be transplanted into you. There are many people who have such a strong desire to live, they would take an organ from someone regardless of their race, religion, sexuality, nationality, mythical beliefs, etc., in a heartbeat and wouldn’t be at all picky. However, I do think that if someone doesn’t participate in the organ donation program, they should receive lower priority than someone who does. That’s only fair. Give what you want.

I am a Christian, and I must say, I am horrified by this question. I truly hope that it is insincere, as I simply can not wrap my head around an actual Christian being so hateful as to deny any ill or dying person a chance at life.
If you are, in fact, a Christian, please read the book of John once again. Focus on the parts where it talks about how they will know us by our love, and how in the end we will be divided up between those who cared for the poor, the stranger, the prisoners, and those who did not. Nowhere does it qualify who we care for. Nowhere does it say that we are only to love those who believe as we do.
Truly, I am not kidding, if you are actually a Christian asking this question, pray right now that your eyes will be opened, and that you will be given the wisdom to actually understand your faith. If you are displaying hate and judgment as a Christian, please, please, just do us all a favor and do not call yourself a Christian. When you profess your Christianity without displaying love, you are not acting like a Christian. You are repelling people from Christ, rather than attracting people to the Good News that we are to be spreading. If you have turned into the dead wood that the Bible speaks of, and have no plans to be obedient and bear fruit, please just stay quiet. At least that way you will do no further damage to Christianity.

Please specify what “religious reasons” you would give for refusing to donate your organs to an atheist, except bigotry and prejudice?
Donating your organs is a charitable act of selflessness. Doesn’t Christianity demand that followers do selfless acts of charity? Aren’t charitable acts one of the things God expects you to do in order to be considered a good Christian and obtain the kingdom of heaven?
When you sign an organ donor card, you are essentially giving up ownership of those organs. The organization responsible for harvesting and distributing them to prospective donors then has custody of your organs, and may donate them to anyone they wish who is in need. Generally, there is a list of recipients who are to receive them, ranked based upon medical need to save and preserve life. Organ donations are usually done anonymously, just to avoid the situation you describe above.
So no, you cannot refuse to donate your organs to someone else on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, financial status, or, indeed, any other status.
I’m trying to think of a reason why you would care who gets your organs. If you’re dead and now an immortal spirit in heaven, what need do would you have of your earthly, material body, and its organs?
Let me ask you a hypothetical question: if you were in an ICU, and desperately needed an organ transplant, and one was available from an atheist, you’d refuse it because this person is an atheist? You’d rather die?
I can assure you, that were I to be in a similar situation, I would GLADLY accept the gift of life from an anonymous donor, and be thankful all my life to that person for giving up his life to save mine.
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.”

Why? Because the state does not want religious leaders demanding their followers hand over their valuable organs in death, for rewards in their afterlife.
Organs are donated, and once donated are given to recipients based on the identified need by the medical administrators overseeing organ donation, which is a very complex process that carries a great deal of moral weight upon it for those who must decide. This is because the reality is that there is only a fraction of organs available for what is needed, since most people’s organs are unsuitable upon death, or those people did not wish to donate their organs for some reason, which seems a tad wasteful to me, but that’s just my personal opinion.
It is possible to donate organs, at the time of donation only and not prior, to someone specifically, which is sometimes the case when a surgeon finds a just-deceased possible donor, and will beg their family to donate the organ to someone who is likely literally dying in the very same city, if not the same hospital.
However specifying donation only to a certain population, such as say Christians only, is essentially forbidden by state medical ethics boards. The reason for this is not so much because they worry about people not donating because it might end up in the body of their hated religious enemy, but rather because medical ethics boards fear compelled donation.
Think what would happen if a religious group, or any group for that matter religious or not, told their followers that as part of their beliefs/membership, they had to agree to donate there entire body, organs and all, to be used by members of that organization. It would be unethical to permit people in a position of authority, especially religious leaders who can promise post-life incentives, to compel their followers/members to give them their bodies and organs.
Consider even more what happens when a specific organization, like say one of the prosperity churches, has the inside track on fresh organs for their membership only, and, oh say, they ask you for a donation when you find yourself in need of a kidney. Oh, they are not asking you to pay for it, that would be illegal, just, perhaps, a $100K donation to the church?
See how quickly an unethical person could twist this to their own gain?
That is why no, you cannot specifically say only one type of person can, or cannot, receive your organs.

Your organs are not “Christian”. They are as secular as any atheist‘s or Muslim's and will work or be rejected from any body not genetically compatible.
Your heart appears to be anti-Christian, since it has no compassion for the suffering.
Consider that Jesus said that on the last day the King will divide the [inhabitants of all the] nations of the earth into the sheep and the goats, and the only criteria he gave for the sheep being welcome to the land God had ordained for them to inherit is that they cared for his brothers and sisters when they were needing care and support. (Matthew 25) The goats did not aid the King's sisters and brothers, so they were to go into the lake of fire.
So, since you put a caveat against giving the organs you don't need to “atheists”, you won't be among the sheep but among the goats. The King won't give you mercy because you won't be merciful.

Nearly all Christian groups expect that their members will bear witness to the message of Christianity, in order to spread the faith and the possibility of salvation to their fellow human beings. (Depending on which Christian denomination you belong to, you may believe that eternal salvation can be achieved exclusively through sincere Christian faith.)
This is why Christianity has long encouraged and hastened to accept conversions at the end of life, perhaps most famously by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great.
I’m not a follower of Christianity, but if I were, the choice of whether or not to offer my organs to atheist recipients would be an obvious one to me…
If an atheist in need of an organ transplant does not receive a donation, he or she will likely die very soon, forestalling the possibility to accept the Christian faith. If this happens because a Christian donor expressly denied his or her organs to atheists, this could be seen as a very real failing on the part of the donor to spread the Christian message and seek salvation for a fellow human being.
On the other hand, if an atheist receives an organ from a Christian donor, thereby prolonging his or her life, there’s a very real possibility that he or she will accept Christianity. Perhaps even more so if the recipient learns about the sincere Christian faith of the donor.
Ah, there it is. There's that much vaunted Christian love, charity and tolerance. Doesn't it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

Please go back and read the New Testament, particularly the story about the Good Samaritan. You might learn something about generosity and unconditional love.

Perhaps you’ll allow me (an atheist), remind you (who claim to be Christian) of the following:-

“Christ died for us while we were yet sinners”, Romans 5:8.

Dan Lenski
