As a business owner in Thailand, the greatest obstacle the grow my business is the government here. Whether it is corruption, incompetent, or just plain laziness you can find them in government agencies here. They regulate businesses here strictly, so if you try to do everything by the book then there is a very low potential for growth.

You know what? we are all South East Asians, when all of us are left behind, at least we are together. lol.

Thailand had decades of chances to learn technology by working as a subcontractor for Japan but in the end, the only real domestic brands they have are in food and beverages. And now even manufacturing is being outsourced again from Japan to China. Seeing that, I can’t help thinking this country has no real path to further development. It feels like Thailand already peaked as a subcontracting economy and from here it’s only going downhill.

Thailand has never been the leader of Southeast Asia — please don’t say something untrue. If you’re talking about tourism, then yes, Thailand is still the country with the highest total tourism revenue right now.

Crazy part is it has 70 million people with a well-balanced geography. But lack in tech innovation, and education compared to countries that suffered severely from war; Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and even China. Many of these countries bounced right back after 50+ years later. While Thailand avoided any major war conflict on it soil but still falls behind. We can even look at similar countries to Thailand like Singapore who had a similar upbringing but still surpassed Thailand I'm everyway; healthcare, tech innovation, education, etc.

It's frustrating to know everytime someone new tries to bring about change and reform the education system to improve the English proficiency, the "old guard" and the royalists do whatever they can thwart such efforts. It's as though they don't want the masses being better educated and moving up the value chain as far as jobs are concerned!

Now I can actually see Thailand's downfall. So as a neighbouring country from the south, I feel proud that Malaysia is starting to pick up economically. Although slow but with the change in proper leadership and maintain consistency in upholding integrity; my country can go far.

I'm Thai and the state of thailand is very sad right now. higher-ups are fighting for wealth while normal people struggle. If this state have to continue in the future, I just wish any developed country just take over and maybe improve Thailand in some ways. Atleast it would be better than what it be right now.

Thailand serves a reminder for both Vietnam and Malaysia of when domestic political infighting impedes long-term progress & effective policymaking. Thailand does have an industrial base, but mainly for companies that set up shop there. Both Thailand & Vietnam have yet to create domestic industrial powerhouses as China did.
Malaysia to some degree has time but it ain't gon' be long. Vietnam is next case study if it can become China-lite or Thailand.

One cannot say, Thailand’s neighbors are flourishing: when three of them are Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
Its economy has done well respectively compared to the rest of ASEAN and the world more generally.
The problem really remains the low fertility rate, the diversity of peoples as well as the unreliable government.

The whole Thailand population is being held captive by the monarchy and the military. If any party wants to do anything that the military or the monarchy doesn't like, it will result in a coup. Political instability will result in non-meaningful reforms, which will result in these issues that they are seeing.

This video was released before Thailand’s election, and it’s from Bloomberg in the US. It feels like some kind of hidden agenda again. But I think the results might disappoint them. It seems like an insinuating video trying to create the narrative that Thailand is not doing well, that reform is needed, that the current system needs to be overthrown, and that major changes are necessary.

There are many wonderful things about Thailand, but the recent increase in bureaucratic overhead has me looking for somewhere else to retire. They need to make it easier for both retirees and longer term tourists to spend time there.

I think one should see the situation from a different perspective. Thailand is a beautiful country and is economically more ahead compared with other asian countries. The mentality, the religion and the social situation are very impoetant factors that do not allow to compare Thailand wuth other developped contries in the world. It takes decades and genetationa to adept, if even possible.

This is a far more complicated problem than this post addresses. One of the biggest issues almost all of the Asian countries now face is the power of religious cults moving into politics. The second, most especially for Thailand, is the slow creep of China attempting to make Thailand a vassel. The third now for Thailand is the strength in the Baht. Switzerland recently passed stringent laws to prevent money laundering. After those laws were passed, the money laundering moved to Thailand. The bottom line in what I’m saying is that it’s easy to look at the surface issues and point fingers, however, the real problems run much deeper.

No, tourism doesn't account for a fifth (20%) of the Thai economy. It is 12%. Who was that lady making false statements? The Thai currency has been very stable and strong since 2009. It has appreciated towards most of world currencies like Euro or Australian $. It seems like there is a lot of false information in this video. But it's true that a handful of ritch, Bangkok families control most of Thailand's wealth. That's their system that is still very much feudal.

Money is nor always everything country chase after for. There is a thing called Peace of Mind. Sometimes called Happiness level that most people would prefer; however, without sufficient economics backing it won't last long or happiness will drop as greed/corruption will spoil the equilibrium

One big problem here in Thailand is the capitalists and elites has no capability to drive industrial section into international stage, to feed their greed they choose to pimping on its people, monopolized almost every sector that can increase their wealth. This make the costs of living skyrocket while average personal income has been stagnant for a decade.

And now even manufacturing is being outsourced again from Japan to China. Seeing that, I can’t help thinking this country has no real path to further development. It feels like Thailand already peaked as a subcontracting economy and from here it’s only going downhill.

Crazy part is it has 70 million people with a well-balanced geography. But lack in tech innovation, and education compared to countries that suffered severely from war; Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and even China. Many of these countries bounced right back after 50+ years later. While Thailand avoided any major war conflict on it soil but still falls behind. We can even look at similar countries to Thailand like Singapore who had a similar upbringing but still surpassed Thailand I'm everyway; healthcare, tech innovation, education, etc.

I'm Thai and the state of thailand is very sad right now. higher-ups are fighting for wealth while normal people struggle. If this state have to continue in the future, I just wish any developed country just take over and maybe improve Thailand in some ways. Atleast it would be better than what it be right now.

Thailand serves a reminder for both Vietnam and Malaysia of when domestic political infighting impedes long-term progress & effective policymaking. Thailand does have an industrial base, but mainly for companies that set up shop there. Both Thailand & Vietnam have yet to create domestic industrial powerhouses as China did.
Malaysia to some degree has time but it ain't gon' be long. Vietnam is next case study if it can become China-lite or Thailand.

The whole Thailand population is being held captive by the monarchy and the military. If any party wants to do anything that the military or the monarchy doesn't like, it will result in a coup. Political instability will result in non-meaningful reforms, which will result in these issues that they are seeing.

It seems like an insinuating video trying to create the narrative that Thailand is not doing well, that reform is needed, that the current system needs to be overthrown, and that major changes are necessary.

I think one should see the situation from a different perspective. Thailand is a beautiful country and is economically more ahead compared with other asian countries. The mentality, the religion and the social situation are very impoetant factors that do not allow to compare Thailand wuth other developped contries in the world. It takes decades and genetationa to adept, if even possible.

This is a far more complicated problem than this post addresses. One of the biggest issues almost all of the Asian countries now face is the power of religious cults moving into politics. The second, most especially for Thailand, is the slow creep of China attempting to make Thailand a vassel. The third now for Thailand is the strength in the Baht. Switzerland recently passed stringent laws to prevent money laundering. After those laws were passed, the money laundering moved to Thailand. The bottom line in what I’m saying is that it’s easy to look at the surface issues and point fingers, however, the real problems run much deeper.

Money is nor always everything country chase after for. There is a thing called Peace of Mind. Sometimes called Happiness level that most people would prefer; however, without sufficient economics backing it won't last long or happiness will drop as greed/corruption will spoil the equilibrium
