Completely overlooks the European car manufacturers that are also WAY behind Chinese EVs. Cars are also built in Canada. And there is Japan as well. Add South Korea, India, and Vietnam to the manufacturing list. The entire world is way behind China on EVs. It's not a US problem, it's a global problem, ex China.

here in new zealand ,the only incentive is a interest free loan.a 5 kw system with battery costs about usd 12000 and generates enough power for my ev to make power to cover cost in 2 years.

EVs really are better vehicles for most people. Not for environmental reasons, they're just great to drive, low maintenance, cheap to fuel, easy to charge at home etc.

Just look at all the EV battery fires in C. Those are vehicles which C held back from export, due to quality issues, but can sell them in C. So they do. They could not care less about human life.

The European EV's are also "good" - Yet nobody buys them. If they opened the market to Chinese EV's, they wouldn't sell well AT ALL. Crap range and they aren't cheap enough to get people interested (look to export prices in Europe, not inside China prices). I don't want them here for security reasons, but lets not pretend they would sell like hotcakes

In Canada, Chinese EVs will have a max quota of 2.5% market share imposed by the Canadian federal government. How can 2.5% share decimate a market? Already in Canada, Ford and GM have surpassed Tesla in EV sales. All the Chinese EVs are going to do is replace Tesla which has seen a rapid decline in sales anyways. While gasoline engine vehicles still have 92% of Canadian auto sales.

EV's aren't convenient to recharge and there aren't nearly enough chargers to recharge or enough power on the grid for them to be adopted by everyone in the US. This guy has no idea with the realities of the EV experience. Not to mention they aren't hi performers when it's cold.

I had 3 EVs. Unless you have your own charger and you do specific commutes those vehicles are a big problem in terms of reliability and range . Depreciation is a huge concern also

Lots of EVs go over 300 miles, some over 400 miles. How far is your commute? I'm guessing less than 100 miles each way. Very easy to travel, chargers are all over the place. Buy a good EV like a Tesla and have a home charger, of course. Stop buying legacy automaker junk.

I think someone did a deep dive a few years back and revealed that most of the subsidies the US government provided to the ev industry was spent on stock buybacks. Facts about China's subsidies: The subsidies are not given by the central govt but by the provincial govts which want to attract particular brand of EV producer, the one that the provincial govts bet on, to set up factory in one of the cities in the province. Subsidies are usually in the form of free land for the factory and loans.

The EVs manufacturers in those provinces then compete among themselves and the winners emerged after fierce competitions. It is the PRIVATE MARKET and not the state that decides the ultimate winners. The Chinese system is very results-oriented and the emerged winners usually found competition with foreign rivals much easier than back home.
