I only need to charge my car over night so I dial back my charger a bit & still can do this. Never been to a supercharger but its good knowing I can stop there any time. Infrastructure is clearly the limiting factor and neather manufacturer are the leader in this and arent likely to be for a long time, I believe.

I hope byd can bring some of their battery backed charger stations to Australia. so they can be topped up at night, and still sustain high throughput during the day, when demand is high, without putting stress on the grid. We just need 2 -3 such mega charging station between large citys. Maybe BYD can work with McDonalds in Australia.

These are both impressive batteries. But being in the U.S. most likely neither of these new Chinese batteries will be shipping to here anytime soon. Interestingly, the two biggest benefits of these batteries to me are the longer life, and the lower cost. And the Naxtra sodium ion batteries look to be better in both of these capabilities. It doesn't make sense anymore if the race is to make 5 million km batteries in cars that are scrapped after 500 , 000 km (10% of the battery life). In that case , we must start to think modular, to use a higher percentage of the battery life before it is scrapped, or to ensure the batteries get a second life as energy storage.

Now, I don't know about natrium(sodium)... While it is dirt cheap, energy density shouldn't reach nowhere close to lithium. I would believe more if magnesium or aluminium was used to achieve high energy densities, not natrium.

MY Car states I can charge the battery up to 350kwh, but i have never come across a charger that support the level of charging. Also the speed of charging maximum will normal only last for 10-20% of charging the battery then the BMS will throttle back the speed especially around 75-85%. Also take note that Fast Charger in China now will only charge your car to 95% capacity, this is China Govt Policy.

How many people really care about charging speed? I've had to charge away from home four times in the last 2 years and every time I was able to do something else for the 15 or 20 minutes I was plugged in. And my car charges really slowly like 60 or 70kW.

Yes I know some folk need to drive 500 hundred miles before lunch but most of us don't and rarely exceed the range of the car on any given day. So long as you can charge at home the charging speed is not that important. Yes for those who can't it is an issue but most people in that position are not buying EV's. Not yet anyway.

The one thing I hate about all current batteries is the thermal runaway (fire) and dendrite crystal problem, plus fast charging tends to acentuate this issue. Do any of these batteries you have mentioned bypass these pet hates of mine. I work in disruptive tech, change is on the way. Imo. The next 1000 days should prove to be interesting imo. We will know if they are good batteries when they are in the wild and last their advertised lifespan without catastrophic failures or premature degradation to the point your car BMS refuses to do anything with it and you are left with an expensive paperweight. I think the BYD Long Blade 2.0 is the best battery. It has the best energy density, best price, and for most people is 'fast enough' in relation to charging... Let's be honest the other batteries will likely never charge this fast in Australia, anytime soon. Also Geely's pack ratio is 131.9Wh/kg, as noted by MIIT.

I only need to charge my car over night so I dial back my charger a bit & still can do this. Never been to a supercharger but its good knowing I can stop there any time. Infrastructure is clearly the limiting factor and neather manufacturer are the leader in this and arent likely to be for a long time, I believe.

I hope byd can bring some of their battery backed charger stations to Australia. so they can be topped up at night, and still sustain high throughput during the day, when demand is high, without putting stress on the grid. We just need 2 -3 such mega charging station between large citys. Maybe BYD can work with McDonalds in Australia.

These are both impressive batteries. But being in the U.S. most likely neither of these new Chinese batteries will be shipping to here anytime soon. Interestingly, the two biggest benefits of these batteries to me are the longer life, and the lower cost. And the Naxtra sodium ion batteries look to be better in both of these capabilities. With just a bit lower energy density.

It doesn't make sense anymore if the race is to make 5 million km batteries in cars that are scrapped after 500 , 000 km (10% of the battery life). In that case , we must start to think modular, to use a higher percentage of the battery life before it is scrapped, or to ensure the batteries get a second life as energy storage.

Now, I don't know about natrium(sodium)... While it is dirt cheap, energy density shouldn't reach nowhere close to lithium. I would believe more if magnesium or aluminium was used to achieve high energy densities, not natrium.

MY Car states I can charge the battery up to 350kwh, but i have never come across a charger that support the level of charging. Also the speed of charging maximum will normal only last for 10-20% of charging the battery then the BMS will throttle back the speed especially around 75-85%. Also take note that Fast Charger in China now will only charge your car to 95% capacity, this is China Govt Policy.

Would I ever keep a vehicle that might outlive its battery? Doubt it. How often would I drive the vehicle on a trip greater than one half the battery range? Rarely. So, I guess battery life expectancy and recharging rate are largely irrelevant to me.

How many people really care about charging speed? I've had to charge away from home four times in the last 2 years and every time I was able to do something else for the 15 or 20 minutes I was plugged in. And my car charges really slowly like 60 or 70kW.

Yes I know some folk need to drive 500 hundred miles before lunch but most of us don't and rarely exceed the range of the car on any given day. So long as you can charge at home the charging speed is not that important. Yes for those who can't it is an issue but most people in that position are not buying EV's. Not yet anyway.

The one thing I hate about all current batteries is the thermal runaway (fire) and dendrite crystal problem, plus fast charging tends to acentuate this issue. Do any of these batteries you have mentioned bypass these pet hates of mine. I work in disruptive tech, change is on the way. Imo. The next 1000 days should prove to be interesting imo. Looking forward to making the leap to axial flux motors and a better battery. Thanks for all your great work, much appreciated.

Everyone will reverse engineer, copy and mass-produce Donut Lab’s battery soon, and improve on it. LFP, LMFP and NMC chemistries will be dead soon in favor of Donut’s solid-state chemistry, which will likely eliminate sodium-ion also.

I still wouldn't buy one of these cars new. In a couple of years, solid state will be coming into wider use, and cars with these batteries will depreciate heavily.

BYD is The Next Kodak/Nokia in many aspects, so Geely is very likely to win again. To outperform gas cars, a very long battery pack lifespan is needed! The engine's lifespan is so many decades. The gas tank's lifespan can be a century or more.

In Thailand, there have been many cases that EV batteries have failed or deteriorated too soon but the mileage exceeded the battery's warranty terms so very expensive replacement prices occured, making negative news and images of EVs. And yes the current famous bad battery case in Thailand happened with BYD Atto3's blade battery!

We will know if they are good batteries when they are in the wild and last their advertised lifespan without catastrophic failures or premature degradation to the point your car BMS refuses to do anything with it and you are left with an expensive paperweight. There has been too much fkin around in the EV world up to that point. See also : GM bolts, Huyndai ionics, etc...
一款电池好不好,只有真正上路、能达到宣传寿命、不出现致命故障或提前衰减到电池管理系统彻底罢工让车变成昂贵废铁,才能算合格。电动车行业这类不靠谱的事太多了,通用雪佛兰Bolt、现代艾尼氪等车型都有过类似问题。
