If any of you have watched the interview with China’s trade minister, he utters the phrase “we don’t care” twice as the interviewer was trying to get him to react to losing access to the American market. As soon as I heard the steel in his voice, I knew the US was done. China can get the chips and will take the IP and make them cheaper and probably better. You can’t stop them.

Why oh why do countries like Canada, The EU, still have an almost slavish devotion to the USA? It’s almost like a very horrible marriage. The USA never wants “friends”, only assets. In Canada we never do anything in our best interests, but we want to make sure we don’t piss off the Yanks. Glen Hedley.
Glen Hedley。

Because majority of the elites of Canada and Europe have significant personal interest invested in the US. The US influence and funding dominate the think tanks that advise the respective governments, as well as the political parties and they dominate the media organisations in the respective countries. The American companies also hold monopoly on critical national infrastructure like the internet and cloud services, AI. They also dominate many of the financial systems in these countries, e.g. 90% of British pension funds are exposed to the US financial market. The only large countries who can be called independent from the US are really just China and Russia.

Exactly, to bring back industry you have to invest in the next generation, in technical colleges, universities and build workshops and factories. You have to get rid of corporate monopolization and net-zero carbon taxes, bring back free-speech, free-expression and free-creativity to revitalize a culture of innovation. Government has to spend big on Research and Development and give awards for innovation. The Government has to invest in road, rail and shipping infrastructure to ensure smooth supply chains. Re-industrialization, will take between 50-100 years to bring back. It is a long hard road back to an industrial future.

@kevinwu8751
In fact, this is one of the seven deadly sins of human nature - jealousy. Why am I richer than you, and developed earlier than you, but now I’m not as successful as you? It’s not because of my lack of ability, but it must be because of your badness. This is almost the way that all Western countries understand China.

Huawei is worker co-op?! WHAT?! That’s AMAZING!
@AustinJT888
Yes. Owner is only keep 1%. The 99% are “Rent” out to all employees. Everyone that works for Huawei can buy shares. And will have to sell it back once they stopped working or fired.
@SteveZhou-xe3fe
Huawei’s equity is very dispersed, with founder/CEO Ren Zhengfei owning approximately 1% of the company’s equity, and the remaining 99% held entirely by the Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. Labor unx Committee (referred to as the unx).
@mochamadeffendi6590
Approximately 99.16% of Huawei’s shares are held by a trade unx committee, representing employee ownership. This structure is designed to distribute profits to employees through dividends, though employees do not hold direct equity or voting rights. Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder, owns about 0.84% of the shares. Despite his small stake, he retains significant influence as CEO and through leadership roles.
@danicoleb5394
I’ve been hoping and praying that Americans would get educated on co-ops and start championing this. It’s the best grassroots advocacy and work we could do to protect ourselves for the long-term (barring any erasure of laws and ethics of course). We should be using member co-ops for essential goods and services and worker co-ops for non-essential goods/services. This way everyone wins because we are all both laborers and consumers.
@CoretteLecuyeer
This trade war has to be one of the dumbest in history. Prices are already out of control, and now with these tariffs, everyday essentials are just going to get more expensive. It feels like regular people are paying the price for political games.
@DieterHertz
I’ve been feeling the squeeze already. Groceries, gas, even basic household items, it’s all going up. I’ve tried cutting back on unnecessary expenses, but it feels like no matter what I do, my money just isn’t stretching as far as it used to.
@ZachZaki77
I was in the same situation, but I got some help from my financial advisor. She helped me restructure my finances so I wasn’t so vulnerable to these economic swings. It’s not just about saving more, it’s about knowing where to put your money so it actually works for you.
@KedaiNasi
As a guy living in SE Asia = life is good. We have no liberal/republican shit right here, tariffs aren’t affecting us that much and we’re much closer in trade with China than America. Heck, China investments in SE Asia countries have flourished and even revitalized smaller towns for years now.
@ChiliPepper-o9y
If the Pharmaceutical company pays 10 cents for a medication from China, that’s 1 cent on the tariff. If they mark it up, as they always do, 100x then that hardly affects the buyer. That’s ditto with everything else. It costs them nothing since they purchase for pennies from China but mark every up from 100 to 1000 times for the American buyer!
@thomasbayer2832
Not as extreme with electronics. A 100+% tariff will hit consumers and inflation will spiral out of control.
@Anneli1580
Thanks Ben for calling a spade a spade. The tariffs indeed are ‘unilateral’, nothing ‘reciprocal’ in it economically speaking.
@infosuge
This isn’t about trade tariffs as such. It’s about who gets to set the terms of capitalism itself. If China’s version wins that is a threat to neoliberalism and colonialists elite in the west. Which is why Europe, UK and the west in general will be left holding the bag as US will come to agreement with China but the vassals will pay tribute.
@charleslamontagne983
Asked Google how much of Walmart product comes from China. Answer: about 70%. I suppose it is the same from Amazon. So Trump just raised prices on what the Americans buy the most. I wonder how long this will last.
@jwilliams-10
Also these luxury goods made in China are marked up drastically IN the US, so the impact to Chinese manufacturers is considerably less than the impact to US profits.
@haibirhussin2169
Very good exposure of Trump stupidity and arrogant mindset, I felt so sorry for most American mostly the non elite families suffers the economics pains, in facts most parts of whole world, indeed.
@eddieleong6490
China’s journey to self-sufficiency in energy, good, technology, etc. is far from over. Water will be diverted from Tibet to make the vast xinjiang desert into a massive farmland using advanced agriculture robots. China will continue to blanket its vast deserts with solar panels. China has started the first seabed data center so that energy is not needed to cool the data computers, etc. China is patient. They know that USA faces uncertain political changes every two years while China is just a continuation of the same government for decades. China and USA will always be friends.
@Pierre_en_CI
Doubling the price on cellphones would hit the supporters of Trump right away, and would give ammunition to his opponents. It was a bad idea right from the start, am surprised this chess game turned into ‘hangman’ so fast.
@mattb.1357
If this is the case why has C now come to the table to negotiate also the whole reason for the tariffs was because C was not going by the rules of the trade commission cheating many countries financially not to mention other issues also like unsafe buildings collapsing on people inside and outside of C and the drugs that kill people coming from C.
@ChiliPepper-o9y
It worked for some people. The world’s richest people saw their wealth surge by a record $304 billion after the U.S. delayed imposing new tariffs, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Elon Musk gained the most from the stock market rally, with his net worth jumping by $36 billion.
@yapcheeseng2735
USA need a president that think of economy, fair trade, peace and stability of the world. Not dominance and control. Why China and Russia is building their military warfare is because of USA military dominance and threats.

It is not even possible to have a normal conversation with Trump. Not because his English is very simplified and finish a normal sentence is very hard for Trump, no, he dares not to have a normal conversation afraid of getting stuck within minutes. Simple people choose simple leaders with simplistic ideas.

The only area in my opinion China seems to be very back in soft cultural power. But also this is changing if we take in consideration that the movie Ne Zha 2 is the first non-American film that surpassed 1 billion dollars (is almost 2 now) at box office globally. And in the video game industry they had Black Myth Wukong which sold 30 million copies! I hope they will continue like this.
@Zidana123
Speaking as an Overseas Chinese, I think it’s important to note that while Chinese diaspora the world over loved Ne Zha 2 and Black Myth Wukong, these had low penetration into non-Chinese audiences. In the realm of soft cultural power, it’s still nowhere near… let’s just take your boy Thanos there, pretty much everyone in the world knows who he is.
@andybunn5780
@Zidana123 As someone not adjacent to the Chinese cultural sphere in any significant way, I have no idea what these things are, but I see your point. I simply want to add that there are major communication barriers when it comes to artistic media. I think AI will change that in the short future, if it hasn’t already.

It’s not because of my lack of ability, but it must be because of your badness. This is almost the way that all Western countries understand China.

Huawei is worker co-op?! WHAT?! That’s AMAZING!
@AustinJT888
Yes. Owner is only keep 1%. The 99% are “Rent” out to all employees. Everyone that works for Huawei can buy shares. And will have to sell it back once they stopped working or fired.
@SteveZhou-xe3fe
Huawei’s equity is very dispersed, with founder/CEO Ren Zhengfei owning approximately 1% of the company’s equity, and the remaining 99% held entirely by the Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. Labor unx Committee (referred to as the unx).
@mochamadeffendi6590
@danicoleb5394
@CoretteLecuyeer
This trade war has to be one of the dumbest in history. Prices are already out of control, and now with these tariffs, everyday essentials are just going to get more expensive. It feels like regular people are paying the price for political games.
@DieterHertz
I’ve been feeling the squeeze already. Groceries, gas, even basic household items, it’s all going up. I’ve tried cutting back on unnecessary expenses, but it feels like no matter what I do, my money just isn’t stretching as far as it used to.
@ZachZaki77
I was in the same situation, but I got some help from my financial advisor. She helped me restructure my finances so I wasn’t so vulnerable to these economic swings. It’s not just about saving more, it’s about knowing where to put your money so it actually works for you.
@KedaiNasi
As a guy living in SE Asia = life is good. We have no liberal/republican shit right here, tariffs aren’t affecting us that much and we’re much closer in trade with China than America. Heck, China investments in SE Asia countries have flourished and even revitalized smaller towns for years now.
@ChiliPepper-o9y
@thomasbayer2832
Not as extreme with electronics. A 100+% tariff will hit consumers and inflation will spiral out of control.
@Anneli1580
Thanks Ben for calling a spade a spade. The tariffs indeed are ‘unilateral’, nothing ‘reciprocal’ in it economically speaking.
@infosuge
@charleslamontagne983
Asked Google how much of Walmart product comes from China. Answer: about 70%. I suppose it is the same from Amazon. So Trump just raised prices on what the Americans buy the most. I wonder how long this will last.
@jwilliams-10
Also these luxury goods made in China are marked up drastically IN the US, so the impact to Chinese manufacturers is considerably less than the impact to US profits.
@haibirhussin2169
Very good exposure of Trump stupidity and arrogant mindset, I felt so sorry for most American mostly the non elite families suffers the economics pains, in facts most parts of whole world, indeed.
@eddieleong6490
@Pierre_en_CI
Doubling the price on cellphones would hit the supporters of Trump right away, and would give ammunition to his opponents. It was a bad idea right from the start, am surprised this chess game turned into ‘hangman’ so fast.
@mattb.1357
If this is the case why has C now come to the table to negotiate also the whole reason for the tariffs was because C was not going by the rules of the trade commission cheating many countries financially not to mention other issues also like unsafe buildings collapsing on people inside and outside of C and the drugs that kill people coming from C.
@ChiliPepper-o9y
It worked for some people. The world’s richest people saw their wealth surge by a record $304 billion after the U.S. delayed imposing new tariffs, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Elon Musk gained the most from the stock market rally, with his net worth jumping by $36 billion.
@yapcheeseng2735
USA need a president that think of economy, fair trade, peace and stability of the world. Not dominance and control. Why China and Russia is building their military warfare is because of USA military dominance and threats.
@KraKra-Ah
It is not even possible to have a normal conversation with Trump. Not because his English is very simplified and finish a normal sentence is very hard for Trump, no, he dares not to have a normal conversation afraid of getting stuck within minutes. Simple people choose simple leaders with simplistic ideas.
@thanosandnobill3789
@Zidana123
@andybunn5780
@Zidana123 As someone not adjacent to the Chinese cultural sphere in any significant way, I have no idea what these things are, but I see your point. I simply want to add that there are major communication barriers when it comes to artistic media. I think AI will change that in the short future, if it hasn’t already.
@lindawhitaker2114
This would be so amusing and entertaining if it were a Netflix series and not our actual reality here in the US. Ben Norton is my absolute favorite channel for explaining WTF is really happening behind this gaslighting clown show victimizing Americans right now.
