Trump’s reciprocal tariffs were always going to trigger some kind of response. Now that China’s hit back, it’s like a global domino effect. You can’t mess with trade at that scale and not expect consequences.

@Johnson-wins
Exactly. Tariffs sound like they’re protecting local industries, but long-term? They strain supply chains, raise costs, and squeeze small businesses. We’re already seeing signs of slowdown, consumer spending’s dipping, and investors are getting skittish.

@tonysilke
But wasn’t this kind of turbulence expected? I mean, inflation’s been creeping up, and interest rates were bound to react. The timing just feels intense now with all these moving parts hitting at once, geopolitics, tech layoffs, market jitters.

@Peter-t9h4d
But what worries me more is the psychological impact. People start pulling back, holding off investments, and then that fear actually triggers the recession everyone’s afraid of. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

@alextjflorida
I am so tired of the fact that the whole world is being bullied and robbed by one rouge country.

@juniorfrederick4389
So most people here going to forget what reciprocal tariffs mean, right. How about EXplaINING THE WHOLE story this time. It didn’t start with USA giving other countries tariffs. You should look into the word WHY.

@thiscedric87
For the first time in history, 99% of the world population would know who you are referring to when you say “He’s an idiot”.

@crazypkm
Funny how 50% of Americans don’t agree with you. Yall had your fun for the last 10 years. Step aside.

@PavelPohl
China to US: Computers, broadcasting equipment, electric batteries. US to China: Crude petroleum, soybeans, raw cotton. Who’s the third world country here, huh?

@MrMarumari
I think the average American underestimates how hated their country is around the world. The era of US arrogance and impunity is coming to an end. China is not perfect but they certainly do operate in a softer and smarter fashion compared to the typical American belligerence and threats of violence.

@louischau7982
Specially when the president said “countries kissing his ass” and the vice president called the Chinese “Chinese peasants”. Just waiting for the LITTLE RUBIO statement to the Chinese.

@Albert_rents
No I think a lot of us Americans understand how the world feels about us. From my stance we don’t care. It’s a free world we are all entitled to feel the way we want.

@Sayitlikeitis-jn6xe
This is very true. 25 years ago when I was traveling all over the world, everyone treated me with respect and courtesy because I was holding a U.S passport. They welcomed and highly sought the U.S. dollar. They even gave me a slightly higher exchange rate for my U.S. dollars. Many ordinary people around the world asked a lot of questions about the beautiful America, eagerly want to learn English and yearning to visit the U.S. Now, when I’m entering a foreign country holding a U.S passport at the airport, no one bats an eye at it and basically tells me to get in line like everyone else. No one is eager to accept my U.S dollars and tells me to go to the bank and exchange it for local currency. I no longer easily display my U.S passport because the “superiority” of it is gone. My foreign friends who used to have desires in coming to America now prefers to visit ASEAN countries, African countries and Europe. The U.S, Canada and Australia are no longer on their travel list.

@vngdatabase105
The average American also vastly overestimates how much of them actually want factory jobs. They did a poll: While 80% of them thinks the factory jobs should come back, turns out only 30% of them are actually willing to be the ones working in those jobs. Turns out, it’s easy to talk about something when you are not the one doing it. Most of them cannot stand hardships.

@krislx6447
@Albert_rents This tone is so American. When Ladygaga been caught plagiarism, she start to say things like bravely being herself and don’t care about what other people say. Excuse me, this other people includes the person you plagiarized! I was shocked, and more shocked that Americans buy her words. This maybe a free world, but someone are more entitled than others.

@Albert_rents 这种语气太美国了。

@Albert_rents
I don’t agree with Gaga btw. Don’t even like her music… and although I understand the connection lol I still mean what I said. As an American I believe in freedom period point blank. I do not argue what you stated, that is how you feel.

@marumoru2773
@vngdatabase105 Well that’s actually normal though and not a US only mindset thing. As an somewhat abstract example: imagine a country without working sewage system - citizens get asked “Do you want working sewers?” Everyone yells yes! “Ok who wants to work maintaining the sewers?” And nobody raised their hands.

@karind6711
China at least helps those countries to stand on their own two feet instead of tying their hands behind the back like the west does.

@theMosen
Can we get other options than just those two? I don’t want to live in a society that worships rugged individualism in the form of inheritance based capitalism (USA). But I also don’t want to live in a society that glorifies the collective hive to the point where you are stripped of all privacy and autonomy for the greater project (C). And at the end of the day they’re both very similar in their doctrine of nationalist exceptionalism and their (largely) soft-power based neo-colonialism.

@tayzonday
Every American knows they are weaker than whoever holds their debt. The credit card company, the IRS, the casino— no matter the debt, the debt-holder wins every fight.

@BOZ_11
There is no debt. The fiscal deficit is not a debt and the money to pay for treasuries comes from the same place as fiscal spending: thin air.

@mcdowelltorres
China is NOT holding our debt like before; they are offloading it! Which is why we have a troubled bond market.

@panagenesis2695
There are historical cases, on occasion, where the debtor rises up and overthrows the lender’s oppression. However, that’s rare and the present case is not it.

@saininj
I absolutely adore seeing Tay in the comments of videos I watch, along with his absolutely based takes. He’s been a real one for a long time now.

@vngdatabase105
Besides China, Japan also holds a ton of US Bonds. A couple of them including Brazil and Spain must have also been dumping them slowly and quietly, because the Bond Market is definitely detecting those disturbances. Either way, expect interest rates to go through the roof if this really picks up.

@bdo3979
That’s not true, if you owe the bank $1000 that’s your problem, if you owe the bank $1 million that’s their problem. Trump understands this concept very well as he has used huge amounts of debt through his life as a real estate investor.

@Ash-vv8zg
Well US debt is different. First, who is going to make them pay back? Second, dollar is special in that it’s the world reserve currency, they can just print more money.

@oneillbilder
The trade war causes stock market volatility as tariffs raise costs for businesses, particularly in manufacturing and tech. This uncertainty can reduce profits and lead to fluctuating stock prices, making investors cautious.

@philipr1759
I think the whole thing about holding stocks for long term will always apply. So I think you should get a quality broker who is able to analyze and pick stocks that will do well in the long term, else you will be in a long bear ride.

@TonyPantoja674
My main concern is how to survive all of these financial and political crisis, especially in light of the US political power scuffle. The government has really called things more difficult for its citizens, and we can’t sit back and bear all the consequences of the bad governance.

@GottaStenberg
Anyone who’s not in the financial market space right now is making a huge mistake. Simply get a Financial Advisor and make your money work for you.

@helenfeng7263
This is not a fight between China and the U.S., this is a fight between a worker focused economy and an economy centered around the very rich. During the Cold War, the U.S. was forced to focus on workers because they had to win hearts and minds against the Soviet unx. After the Cold War ended, the capital class thought that THEY won the war, and since then American policy has changed year after year to serve their needs. Globalization was GOOD when it meant incredibly cheap labor from China. But when China took that money and used it to educate their population, and enrich its people then Globalization became dangerous. They still wanted the profit margins, but when over time, the country that lifted its people started to do better and better, proving reinvesting into infrastructure and education and human welfare would win against a pure profit model built to further enrich the capital class China was demonized for doing exactly what the capital class had wanted China to do in the past. Regardless of parties they decided to wage war against this truth, Obama, Trump, Biden, then Trump again all targeted China not for human rights as you can see in the hypocrisy of Middle East policy, but to enshrine their system of capital first as the only winning strategy. Trump is not making America fail, America’s failure because of unmitigated greed of the few is resulting in Trump. China does not need to win against the U.S., it just needs to continue to grow better and better and ignore the dying country choking on its own hubris.

@Niagaradream
When Putin said that the collapse of Soviet unx was one of the biggest tragedies of XX century it was like a punch in the stomach for Eastern Europeans like myself. Upon further investigation and when getting my head out of my own a$$ , I have to agree with him.

@okamijapan4482
China is growing even more than we expected. Boycott everything U.S.A. Support BRICS.

@MSDGroup-ez6zk
Start buying gold. The more expensive the gold is, the cheaper the USD will be. The cheaper the USD is, the cheaper the global debts. The cheaper the global debts are, the more disposable income everyone will have.

@Adaptation24
Thank you Ben Norton for doing these videos. They are amazing, and you are impressive. It’s crazy that one can learn 100 times more watching your videos than watching hours of many of the major media news sites that are supposed to be the epitome of ‘journalism’ to inform citizens. It just goes to show that passionate individuals are more powerful than teams of overpaid news workers too afraid to deliver news that actually matter.

@harisoepangkat6085
Trump called a press meeting at 2:00am in the morning at the White House and declared up to 245% tariff on Chinese goods. Will Trump understand that any import duty over 60% would mean a total cutoff of the import trade. Any number over that jumping even to 1000% just didn’t make sense. Has Trump had no common sense?

@DailyBeatings
Problem is many products from China are still cost effective even with a 245% tariff. Companies are still going to order products from China when there are no good substitutes and just pass the costs to the end consumer.

@placid_Cat
This isn’t true. The tariff isn’t on the final price, it’s on the value of the import. Because of how much American companies markup the price of cheap Chinese imports a 60% import duty may translate to a negligible sticker price increase depending on the profit margins.

@yome1562
US cannot lose its dominance. This is all they have. Their whole system crumbles if they lose this. Their whole economy depends on the privileged position of the dollar, and their influence depends on their military might. Without this, they are almost nothing: no significant manufacturing capacity, questionable competitivity, average own resources. It’s an existential threat for them. They will go to great lengths to keep their position and this is scary, because all they know is creating chaos through coups, bombing, changes of regime, sanctions and manipulating information.

@therealrobertbirchall
Maynard Keynes didn’t want the US to hold a global reserve of gold. His plan was for an international independent reserve Bank, separate from any interference by any one nation.

@bigskytv
China: We’re making clean energy tech, building 6G network, and developing “low-altitude economy” with flying cars and drone delivery. What’s your plan? US: We’re gonna “drill baby drill” and keeping the 1960’s fossil fuel economy going.

@stu6337
Have you ever been to China? I am living in Beijing which is a huge capital city. I can literally swim in the city river. The water is very very clean. Because the river is right next to the American and some other embassy, some foreigners swim there too. I’m sure if people are desperate, they can drink the river water but I don’t understand why it’s a Standard to judge anything. It’s just a little bit random.

@kristoffaninkama3883
China as a people and country is 5,000 years old and more united and cohesive. America as a people and country is 245 years old and more divisive and none cohesive.

@pardeeptandon
China, thank you—thank you from the bottom of our hearts! You are the only nation in the world with the courage and the strength to stand up to the global bully, the United States. Without your unwavering resolve to resist oppression, the world would be in a far more dangerous and unjust place. History has shown that bullies only grow bolder when they go unchallenged. But you, China, have proven that strength, sovereignty, and justice can prevail. By fearlessly defending what is right, you are not just protecting your people—you are giving hope to all those who believe in a fairer world. China, you are the hero the world needs. Keep standing tall! The US needs to be stopped.

@711MasterBlaster
I spoke to a friend about the COMAC C919. He said he would rather fly on Boeing. I asked him about the Boeing 737 crashes due to MCAS. He said he had never heard about it… This is the people we have in America.

@xrismanessa3993
So he is not a pilot if he doesn’t know about MCAS and the accidents that it causes. Meaning he didn’t know why Boeing was grounded because of that during Trump 1st president term meaning he or she was born after the Ethiopian crash. Do take that person serious.

@RaulGonzales-u7p
Don’t you know the C919 is basically a McDonnell design, and uses Western engines and Avionics. Well you don’t know your aircraft.
