If you're new here: hi, I'm Katherine from the United States I've been living in China for 7 years. After finishing my Masters in environmental engineering at Nanjing University, I began working at an environmental organization called Green Zhejiang. My home base is a village in Hangzhou, but I am currently in the midst of a year-long north China bike tour. This YouTube channel focuses on my interesting encounters in rural areas and small towns.

Each of your stops is always so different from the next. So strange to think the cave houses would've been homes as recently as just a couple of decades ago.
I'm a big fan of murals and tiles and even slogans on houses. Crazy to see so many solar panels in such tiny villages, but definitely a smart idea.
You two must have thighs of steel after all those hills!!!

黄土高原住的地方叫塬，“塬” 是中国西北黄土高原地区因流水冲刷形成的顶部平坦、四周陡峭的台状地貌，是黄土高原特有的地形之一。
塬与中国历史息息相关，塬通原，塬是高台平地，原是平原。
周朝发源于周塬（陕西宝鸡—武功），周人在此崛起并灭商建周。如今是著名的“青铜器之乡”，出土了大量国宝级文物。
五丈原（陕西宝鸡岐山）三国时期诸葛亮屯兵之地，最终“出师未捷身先死”，病逝于此。
五陵塬 是西汉九位帝王的陵墓集中地，包括汉高祖长陵、汉武帝茂陵等，是古代皇家风水宝地。
白鹿原 陈忠实小说《白鹿原》闻名全国；汉文帝葬于此，故又称“霸陵原”；唐代称“灞上”，为长安东南屏障。

We had xi An hand pulled noodles tonight for the first time and they were so good. We also got these "sandwich" style buns with pork and those were amazing! The lamb ones were great, with lots of cumin but the lamb was a bit chewy.
今晚我们第一次品尝了西安拉面，味道特别好。还买了夹猪肉的“肉夹馍”式包子，简直美味极了！羊肉的也很不错，孜然味很足，不过羊肉稍微有点难嚼。

The indestructible Katherine! Thank you for a real nice video. I totally agree with you regarding "tiled" vs. "printed" decorations. Regarding, again (I suggested that earlier) the many hills you have to traverse, I really think you should consider e-bikes. And, I have a nagging (but personal) question: you (your husband, ditto) seem to be on a permanent vacation so I wonder where from and how you earn, draw, provide for living expenses? All of us are either very rich (don't know anybody like that) or have to work, work, and work; work and earn money throughout our lives.

在中國綠色能源是真真正正的落實推行, 不像其他國家只是口號而已, 太陽能, 水力發電, 風力發電, 隨處可見, 電車在一二線城市接近五成, 不得不讚
中国的绿色能源是实打实地在推进，不像有些国家光喊口号。太阳能、水电、风电随处可见，一二线城市的电动车占比已近五成，确实值得称赞
