Canada (where I live) is nothing on the global stage but our government said bupkis for decades as we sold asbestos to 3rd world countries. Let’s not even discuss the lack of action we take on mining companies who pollute some other shmuck’s rivers.
The point of this rambling aside? What’s in it for America to invade Cuba? If they had oil, trust me, they would have been “liberated” a long time ago.
If Afghanistan had anything worth fighting over, NATO would have had an airbase or two there.
Who am I kidding? Russia would have never left!

Democracy, well, debatable. Why that happened (what I assume you’re implying to) you’re conveniently leaving out. OTOH, you can’t deny Hong Kong is and was Chinese. Taiwan is a different matter, but not very much. Let’s be real, Chinese do not want to ‘invade’ lands that they are not at least somewhat entitled to. Opposed to western powers, mainly US, of course, which think they have right to meddle with any regime they don’t like or they have a special interest in.
Yesterday it was Russia, today China is to blame on everything, only we are good. And if we drop bombs on people, it’s for their own good.
By the way, China is more democratic than West is willing to admit. And, primarily USA, is much less democratic as people think, it is called indoctrination. And since US are the biggest power in the world, the other wesrtern nations accepf, follow and repeat their narrative. But thankfully, less and less in Europe and other parts of the world.

If he has something you want and won’t sell it to you, you put someone in power who will… or you invent a reason to invade them.
America did it with Iraq, Russian did it with Ukraine, and China will be invading someone on a map nearby the first chance they get.
Canada is supposed to be besties with America. Then Trump comes in and promptly tears up all of the trade agreements and rewrites them to be more favourable.
It’s just what you do when you own the game ball.

I thought the Polish had cracked the code, and that it was Alan Turing at Bletchley Park, who invented a computer that could crack the code no matter how many times the Germans changed the key.
I think they used “Heil Hitler” as the code breaker since that was the phrase that preceded all German communications.

To be fair to The Last Samurai (which does take some rather absurd liberties with history, IMO), the title was meant to be read as a plural. It didn’t refer to the protagonist, but the whole group he was a part of.

We could have a healthcare system that would be the envy of the world with what we spent on Iraq and Vietnam. And for what? To make people’s lives more miserable?
