Saqib Ali Muhammad Aslam
Allow me to plug-in a passage from Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H)’s Khutba E Hajj:
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. — Muhammad(P.B.U.H) 9th Dhul Hijja
So by even considering that our color in South Asia makes us some kind of beautiful, handsome, gorgeous beings is just un-Islamic to the very extent.
Secondly, majority of Pakhtuns are in Pakistan, an ethnicity that is associated with beauty and bravery. Thus, the whiteness all around.
(I don’t know if this being is male or female. So no responsibilities on my end of calling it “he” or “she”)
I said majority Pashtuns are in Pakistan but that doesn’t mean Pakistan doesn’t have any other ethnicity. We have Black Pakistanis which are named as “Siddi” in Pakistan. Their ancestors were migrants from Northern African countries and that doesn’t makes them any less Pakistani than the person above. Also, they are not shot by our police:
We also have the potato-colored/wheat-colored people. Which are generally present in areas of Punjab and Sindh.
(Yes. That’s me in stripes. I went to an event and they clicked this. Somewhat wheat colored guy because of my Lahore & Delhi ancestry.)
In Pakistan, people change every 10 KM and that is a true fact. For every 10 KM you’ll have a different culture, a different community and a different atmosphere. So [math]796,096 / 10 = 79609.6[/math] estimated diverse communities of diverse people. But every community you go, you’re gonna find love for something that is Pakistan.

I chukled a bit after reading the question. Pakistanis donnot call themselves whites of South Asia, why would they?
They dont even consider themselves that. We leave the "white" to the "white people" (without sounding racist).
If we're only talking about the "color" here, then I've had LOTS of South Asians telling me that Pakistanis are considered beautiful, when asked them how the usual reply was "because they're usually so fair". At first I found that notion rather unreal, I mean South Asian countries all had the same kind of ethnicity, same kind of climate etc right? I mean have you ever seen Nepalese people? They're gorgeous!
Anyway, now I've made peace with the notion, it feels good hearing it from other people. But I don't call myself white of South Asia. In fact I haven't heard anyone ever saying this before. That would be plain arrogant on so many levels.

I must admit that as a Lahori my knee jerk reaction to this question was annoyance and an immediate denial because most of us tend to be brown, and while there is the usual obsession with ‘fairer skin’, it's part and parcel of being a South Asian.
However, reading some of the answers made me realize that there are indeed people in the country obsessed with the idea of their own white skin and the presence of European looking Pakistanis which to them makes us somehow better. What is disgusting to me is how clueless they seem of fact that openly proclaiming themselves to be superior just because of their white skin isnt going to win them admiration, but just reveal their shallowness and insecurity.
I do however still disagree that ‘most' Pakistanis consider themselves whites of South Asia because that would be generalizing an entire nation. What I think is a reasonable assumption is that among the pakistanis who have enough knowledge or inclination to educate themselves about the skin colour of the entirety of south asia, exist some racists who are probably highly satisfied in the knowledge that they're fairer than their eastern/southern counterparts.

The average Pakistani while concerned about skin within the context of their social circle, probably doesn't spend time obsessing about other countries. There's too much in life to expect everyone to have the exact same biases.
I’d like to add that, having lived in both Pakistan and abroad, this acute awareness of differences between different South asian ‘looks' seems more to be the domain of expats who are constantly exposed to the difference. I live in saudi Arabia and went to school here. My social circle consisted almost entirely of Bengali and Indians, and this concept that pakistanis are fairer than other south asians was actually drilled into me by them (i didnt go to a pakistani school). Do you know what was a common phrase among them?
‘Pakistanis are so beautiful. They have such fair skin.’
This was obviously an idea drilled culturally through parents and acquaintances because at that time we were too small to notice ourselves, and this continued throughout our school years. Some of the few Pakistanis who went to my school would of course develop a big head when they were instantly considered good looking by everyone else and pursued like there was no tomorrow, simply because of skin. It was wrong, but would you blame only them? The blame lies equally with those that worshiped them and hence gave them a false sense of superiority simply for their skin. The blame lies in our collective South Asian mentality.
(In contrast, my Pakistani raised friends in Pakistan never made such comparisons between nations, simply because such awareness didn't exist amongst most of them.)
This is not to point fingers or deflect the issue. I just mean at the core of it we (the South asians) are all the same regarding skin colour. Any thoughts Pakistanis have about their skin—and any south asian skin--is probably shared by the rest of South Asia. Its sick, but I don't see this colourism ending anytime soon. We're very good at propagating our culture, complete with the negatives .

I can’t believe this question exists….
Being “White” is first of all a made-up concept. It is a social construction. Before there was “White” there was Welsh, Swedish, Irish, Scottish, Georgian, Russian, Jewish, Italian — all of these people, by the construction of our society, are now meshed to just simply be “White” and unfortunately a lot of them believe that they are just “White.”
Second of all, Afghanistan, India, and Bangladesh are also a part of South Asia. Why is this question just focused on Pakistan?
Third of all, Pakistan is literally a country made from other countries (Afghanistan, Iran, India).
Fourth of all, who cares if some of us look “white” or if some of us look “brown”… All of our genes have been mixing and spreading for literally 10,000 years. Believe it or not, I am most probably from African descent and I probably also do have an ancestor that was a Neanderthal, and I also probably do have genes going back to Scotland — doesn’t this just blow your mind?

Hi
Well this is an extremely unrevealed part of our society One that I feel disgusted about (I’ll explain this as I go on),Its sort of like a Social taboo in Pakistan hence not many people discuss this flatly.
Me being a North-lander and having studied mostly in Rawalpindi (Punjab) where majority of the people generally tend to have darker skins ,My friends in Junior and Middle school used to call me “Goray” meaning “white” others used to call me “Gilgiti” or “Fair and lovely” .
Anyways here growing up as a teenager ,my school mates used to get into fun fights and the one’s with slightly fairer skins(Mostly kashmiris) used to call people of darker skins as “Chal Kalay kaway dafa ho” “Get lost black crow”.
There is racism in Pakistan ,but its not really a big deal to the extent as in some western nations like United States, which is largely due to the fact that their Southern states have a darker history of black slavery ,Similarly Pakistan also being ruled by the “Whites” as a former colony of British many people tend to think of whites as part of a superior group with higher IQ . So a large enough portion of Men in Punjab generally prefer getting married to fairer women in Northern Areas ,which In recent years has also resulted in cultural clash and people of Northern Areas developing a more cultural sense to reject the former.

As a student studying in Co-Education ,The thing which I used to be disgusted most was the fact how desperate people(Mostly Girls) were to get fair skin.
This is the most famous whitening cream in Pakistan and you could see how fair girls had become so fair in class yet their hands were still dark ,It disgusted me and I thought It was racist.
Yes Darker Pakistanis are obsessed with fair skin mostly because they get a-lot of hate and I can tell you that from Personal life experiences even when nobody really talks about it ,behind every Pakistani mirror Girls are spending hours to get fairer skin using makeup or whitening Creams otherwise they think nobody is going to marry them.
I’d like to respond to Irma Saeed’s answer ,Her answer is very true partly because of the fact Lahore where she’s from has a very strong cultural identity and People in Lahore or Karachi(Down south) really don’t care about fair skin to a larger degree whereas in cities comparatively closer to Northern Area’s comprising of large white minorities in cities like Islamabad or Rawalpindi ,Hence Almost all our Middle and upper middle class is in a race to compete “Who is the fairest of them all”.
It’s all a matter of preference largely due to social reasons for Most girls and Boys while most Pakistanis don’t care or consider themselves “Whites of South Asia” they do care about having a White Skin.
I personally think Whitening creams should be banned ,then I also think it’ll create even more problems ,We should also educate people before we ban such products.

No they don’t, but there is one thing. Geographically Pakistan is the area that is where the skin color and overall health of people transition from dark to fair.
You go east from Pakistan and the color darkens; India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Far East etc.
Similarly you go west from Pakistan and you find Pakhtuns, Afghania, Iran and finally the Gulf states where you find people with fair complexion and stronger in build.
So Pakistani lies just in the transition area and you find people of mix colors, health and stature.
Hope it helps.

In order to understand the origin of Pakistanis one has to go through the infamous history of the region. The ancestors of Pakistanis were Hindus, Jains, Zoroastrians, Sikhs and Buddhists. History of Muslim invaders like Alauddin Khilji and Bakhtiyar Khilji is available that shows it very well how the natives were brutally assaulted and raped by them. And the brutality of rape was on a very large scale which even resulted in large scale migration of European Gypsies that originated in Northern India to various parts of the world in the 11th century A.D. A large section of the population were sex slaves of Turks and Afghans. The generation that followed were all Muslims as they were not accepted as Hindus, Buddhists, etc. A lot of the people were forcefully converted into Islam too. So the Pakistanis are a mixed up race of Indians, Turks and Afghans. Each and every single Pakistani has Indian, Afghan and Turk blood in his veins which is testament to the fact that how rapes and sex slavery were carried out on large scale by the Muslim invaders. Nobody can deny that the Pakistani race is an outcome of rapes and sex slavery.

I wonder the world is still revolving around colors of skin?
ask yourself if the question is worth it?
being a Pakistani I never thought about colors of skin or treated someone differently based on his or her color or making friends of my favourite color. Currently, there’s a wave against ethnic, religious or other differences in Pakistan that is going to demolish such differences hence making it one nation- Pakistani and Pakistani only. Southern dark skins of Pakistan feel no inferiority nor had northern whites any superiority nor anyone feel any difference nor the colors are discussed across Pakistan. yet women want to make their color fair and use a lot of money on cosmetics and that’s common across the globe and bit more in South Asia.

We don't consider ourselves 'whites' of South Asia....Believe me, I have just heard this for the very first time.
Maybe this all is coming out because we are generally fairer than most of the people from other south asian nations like India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. But as the question is more about whether we Pakistanis consider ourselves 'whites' or not, we don't consider so.
Let me tell you some facts about the color of the people within Pakistan. There are different ethnicities -Punjabis, Pakhtoons, Urdu speakings, Sindhis ,Kashmiris(including people from Galgit Baltistan), and Balochs. Generally, Paktoons and Kashmiris are fairer than others. Punjabis are less fairer than Pakhtoons but more than Sindhis and Urdu speakings and Balochs.
I guess this all came out when one of your Pakistani friends has passed some judgement on the matter.

Pakistan has some white populations more percentage than other parts of south Asia. This could be because kashmir and Afghan and pathan populations are higher concentrated in pak. There are some in india also but more in pak. However, the larger percentage and more common pakistani is of dark skin and the type you will find anywhere se in south Asia. To sum up, in Pakistan you will find someone who looks like a Turkish, like a.european, like an Arab, like a south indian, like a bengali. It is diverse populations but more so in the darker south Asian side.

Obsession with fair skin does not equal “claiming to be white” though it does indicate an inferiority complex stemming from being ruled by the white British.
Pakistanis in general are brown-skinned of varying shades and physical types ranging from tan to very dark brown, with some outliers being pale skinned (some Chitralis, the Baltis, and some Pashtuns) or black skinned (Siddis). But the overwhelming majority of Pakistanis (Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtun, Baluchi, Muhajir, etc) are brown skinned of varying shades.

Why are they “whites” of Asia? They are still considered dark by the Caucasian race. Further, Middle Easterns, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc…are much fairer than Pakistanis…so what are they called if Pakistanis are “white”?

Areeba Khan
Um, no.
Honestly, I had to reread this question a few times because I failed to understand what it was inquiring at first. Talking about skin color in this day and age is akin to having a regressive mindset, it’s absolutely ridiculous.
