I just watched the 2019 version of the movie “Midway” yesterday and they played out an incident that actually happened during their war game trials.

Naturally, when the real battle took place, the Americans had indeed figured out what the Japanese were trying to do and had stationed their THREE carriers (they repaired one thought by the Japanese to be destroyed) just to the northeast of Midway. When the Japanese realized this, they called off their second strike on Midway and instead tried to prepare to attack the American fleet which was, after all, the whole point of the operation. Instead, the Americans got to them before they launched their planes and disabled three carriers while, at that point, losing none of their own naval assets.
The same thing happened at Arnhem in 1944. The whole plan depended on there not being any major German forces there. However, the allies received intelligence that there were German tanks in the area. The Germans were there because the tanks needed a break and they figured Arnhem would be quiet. The British went ahead anyway and were never able to capture the key bridge because they didn’t have enough on the ground to take on an entire tank division.

You're afraid. You tried doing things. They didn't work. And when you see something else new come about. You close your mind. Then you shoot it down. And that's because you're jaded. You're so tired of seeing yourself fail that you don't want to try anything anymore.
But why are you so jaded?
That's because with everything you ever tried to achieve, no matter how far you progressed, you saw how far away that goal was. And then you realized that you were nowhere close to achieving it. And you became discouraged. And it felt impossible to move ahead.
So you gave up.
Ultimately, this meant you failed to hit your goal. And you failed to hit that goal because you were discouraged by how out of reach it was. But the only reason it was out of reach to begin with is because you made it an expectation. Something you must achieve in your life.
Imagine what life would be like if you didn't expect to be a millionaire. If you didn't expect to earn $100,000. If you didn't expect to get a million views. If you didn't expect to get the person of your dreams.
Imagine if you just did something because you wanted to do something.

You don't start from the destination and then move to the starting line. Or you will never make it back across. You start at the starting line and you just go forward. And when the finish line appears, you'll have made it. But you don't know when it'll appear, or how long it'll take. It may be a day. It may be a week. It may take until the rest of your life. But you keep moving forward because you don't even have an end in sight, or an expectation placed upon yourself. You keep moving forward because that's what you do when you're doing something you enjoy. You keep moving forward because what you're doing becomes a way of life.
And when you keep moving forward, you get to where you wanted to be. Even if you don't even want it anymore.
So kiss those expectations goodbye. And say good riddance to disappointment. Because that will just become a feeling of the past. Just as long as you get rid of your goals and expectations and focus on doing work that's of high value instead.

Not having enough knowledge about different career options : I had a friend who just scored 67 in Class 12th (in 2016), but after that setback he chose to do a Diploma course in Spanish language from an institute in Delhi instead of going for a regular B. Tech like everyone else. Today, he is earning 45k per month and those B. Tech guys are still in their last year of graduation. And majority of them do not even have the passion for Engineering, either.
A lot of Confusion : More than half of Indian college students are confused about their careers, they don't know what they want in their life. During graduation, in the first year, students want to be an IAS officer, next year they shift to CAT after reading that Arts students gets leverage in MBA entrance and in 3rd year, everyone want to be an entrepreneur after reading Elon Musk. Now, they all doing MA in History.
Lack of Focus and Patience : In my used to be graduation class, students wanted to do everything in one shot, like one student wanted to be the topper of the class, President of the Student unx, IAS officer, A singer(had a youtube channel) and ofcourse looking for a girlfriend. Today, he is a tiktok artist , lost his glorious career due to lack of focus.
对不同的职业选择没有足够的了解：我有一个朋友（2016年）在12班的成绩仅为67分，但在那次挫折之后，他选择在德里的一所学院学习西班牙语文凭课程，而不是像其他人一样去读普通的理工学士学位。如今，他每个月的收入是4.5万英镑，而那些理工学士还处于毕业的最后一年。他们中的大多数人对工程甚至都没有热情。

Lack of Self Awareness : Somebody good in writing choosing to be an Engineer, somebody good in Commerce wanting to be an Engineer due to peer pressure. It's common in India. Students do not know about their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, choose a wrong career and stuck their forever. Since, it's not the area of their interest, they unfortunately don't excel in that particular career.
Peer Pressure : I had a friend, surprisingly passionate for Coding(computer science) had a job in Accenture. But his batchmates were preparing for Civil Services , thus he jumped that boat in fear of missing out something. This year's CSE was his 3rd attempt, and he is thinking of re-joining the IT sector again.
People fail in their life because they don't know about themselves, lack confidence, get influenced by surroundings and lose focus in between.

“Failure is not the opposite of success,it's a part of success”
How true these lines seem to be,how realistic those lines are. Failure is never the end of a journey, rather we should visualize it as a beginning of a new journey,but with a different and improved vision and perspective.
Let me narrate a short story perhaps most of us already know it,still here I go.
‘As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime can break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.’

John’s reply usually goes something like this: “You cannot achieve what you have not defined.” John’s response is designed to help the questioner begin the journey to discovering his or her purpose.
John says this because he has learned from experience that the problem for most people who want to be successful is not that they can’t achieve success; it’s that they cannot define their purpose.
That’s challenging for many of us, because we often picture success as looking like someone else.
We find ourselves pursuing the wealth of Bill Gates, the intelligence of Albert Einstein, the athletic ability of Michael Jordan, or the imagination of Walt Disney. When becoming someone else is our picture of success we eliminate the possibility of becoming who we are meant to be.
So how do you discover your purpose in life? How do you discover the person you were created to be?
Here are some questions I ask myself to help identify my purpose:

1. What am I searching for?
I have heard John Maxwell say many times, “When I see people who are tired before their time, lagging with their life, and complaining about their circumstances, I know that they have no purpose.”
All of us have a strong desire buried in our hearts, something that speaks to our deepest thoughts and feelings, something that sets our souls on fire. Searching for that fire will bring perspective that will help you establish priorities.

2. Why was I created?
Think about your unique mix of abilities, the resources available to you, your personal history, and the opportunities around you. If you obxtively identify these factors while considering the desire of your heart, you will be well on your way toward discovering your purpose in life.
Each of us is different. No one else in the world has exactly the same gifts, talents, background, or future. That’s one of the reasons it would be a serious mistake for you to try to be someone other than yourself.

To reach your potential, you must first believe that you have it. If you don’t believe that you have potential, you will never try to reach it. And if you aren’t willing to work toward reaching your potential, you will never be successful.
President Theodore Roosevelt gave great advice on this when he said, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

To put it simply—NOW! However, this seems to be the most paralyzing question for many people.
Some people never try to discover their true purpose for living. They live their lives from day to day allowing others to dictate what they do and how they do it.
Others know their purpose, yet never act on it because they are waiting for inspiration or an invitation to get started. They don’t realize that the most dangerous temptation is delaying your discovery of purpose.

Some people succeed because they work smart.

In both cases, you work.
If you are highly intelligent enough to calculate 16 digit multiplications in your mind within 20 milliseconds yet sit down doing nothing you are bound to fail.
If you have an eidetic memory, but don't know how to use it, you are bound to fail.
If you never want to fail, and never try, you cannot fail neither succeed, which makes you a failure again.
Lots of people work for money.
Lots of people work on something they hate.
Some people work on things they like, things they yearn for, they become happy.
It is not about making money. It is about being happy.
If you work as a garbage collector, collect enough money to feed your child and the love of your life everyday, enjoy every night cuddling beneath the beautiful night sky staring at the horizon, having no idea if you will wake up tomorrow, but you don't care, does it mean you have succeded?
