Laos holds a world record: the most bombed country in the world. There are still 80 million bomblets that never went off remain live, buried over 35% of land area of Laos, by more than 580,000 air missions by the USA on Laos between 1964 and 1973 during the Vietnam War. A staggering 270 million bomblets were dropped in a country with a population of 2.5 million, to blanket a huge buffer zone to prevent weaponries to reach Vietnam. By 1975, 1/10th of Laos population was killed, 1/5th of the population wounded. Many Americans don’t even know about this war.

About 80 million of the bombs didn't explode during the drop. Until today, long after the war ended, the unexploded bombs still kill and maim the innocents in Laos. More than 20,000 people lost their lives after the war ended, half of them children.

unfortunately this changes nothing. These tactics are common in the west, such "after the fact" analysis/reporting is not uncommon, it gives the impression that U$ has freedom of speech, and that govt is being held to account. It gives the illusion of a civil society that ordinary people can discuss the issue, but if you look at the outcomes, of all these "analysis", it changes absolutely N0THING , and here we are in 2023 it's the same with ukr, soon Taiwan, Iran, and elsewhere.

Found a few quotes worth sharing. March 19 marks 15 years since the U.S.-UK invasion of Iraq in 2003, and the American people have no idea of the enormity of the calamity the invasion unleashed. The U.S. military has refused to keep a tally of Iraqi deaths. General Tommy Franks, the man in charge of the initial invasion, bluntly told reporters, “We don’t do body counts.” One survey found that most Americans thought Iraqi deaths were in the tens of thousands. But our calculations, using the best information available, show a catastrophic estimate of 2.4 million Iraqi deaths since the 2003 invasion. Source Davidswanson warlist The millitary is America’s biggest jobs program. The idea isn’t about protecting people, but protecting corporate interests in dominating foreign resources and economies. The goal isn’t to end wars, but to keep the wars ongoing as long as possible and as profitable as possible. -FRISHR

@LCCATCX I don’t think you know what war crimes are… an illegal war doesn’t mean it’s a war crime, that’s not how war crimes works. Political leaders of the US and UK, which led the arguments leading to the invasion, have claimed that the war was legal;[1] however, legal experts, including John Chilcot, who, acting as chairman for the British public inquiry into Iraq, also known as the Iraq Inquiry, led an investigation with hearings from November 24th, 2009, to February 2nd, 2011, concluded that the process of identifying the legal basis for the invasion of Iraq was unsatisfactory and that the actions of the US and the UK have undermined the authority of the United Nations. Russian President Vladimir Putin[2][3] stated that the war was unjustified and Deputy Prime Minister to Tony Blair, John Prescott,[4] has also argued that the invasion of Iraq lacked legality as examples. In a 2005 paper, Kramer & Michalowski argued that the war "violated the UN Charter and international humanitarian law".[5] Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a televised conference before a meeting with the US envoy to Iraq, said on 19 December 2003 that "The use of force abroad, according to existing international laws, can only be sanctioned by the United Nations. This is the international law. Everything that is done without the UN Security Council's sanction cannot be recognised as fair or justified."

@LCCATCX 我想你不知道什么是战争罪;

@ryan forgo I don't know how much you studied that chapter in history, but Saddam also had his hands full in the middle east, invading Iran in 1980 (war lasting 8 years), invading Kuwait in 1990 leading to the Gulf War, breaking off relations with Egypt in 1978 and then again in 1990, firing rockets at Israel in 1991 hoping to instigate another Arab-Israeli war, among other things. He was undoubtedly the most destabilizing force in the region and refused to comply with UN weapons inspections, to the point where the US made it their policy to remove him from power with the 1998 Iraq Liberation Act. The post-war chaos has less to do with removing Saddam and more to do with disbanding the Iraqi army, thus allowing different military factions to emerge. That was their gravest error.

Our crime was assuming we didn't know better than the Iraqis what was best for Iraq. A poll conducted from March 22 - April 9 2004 showed Iraqis by a margin of more than 2 to 1 thought the invasion was "worth it" for ousting Saddam. It wasn't until sectarian violence kicked into high gear that they changed their tune. Those who aren't factophobic should Google these words: "Nearly half the Iraqis polled in a survey conducted primarily in March and early April said they believed the U.S.-led war had done more harm than good, but 61 percent of respondents said Saddam Hussein's ouster made it worth any hardships" Only 28% said "not worth it."

he will be one of those guys who will change iraq for the better, just raise him well and also take care of yourself
