I'm not sure about other Asian countries, but China has one of the best charging networks in the world, both in absolute numbers and in the number of chargers and fast chargers per EV. It's easier to find a fast charger available in most parts of China than in California. It's not really a coincidence that more EVs are sold in China than in the rest of the world combined, in most places in China range anxiety is a thing of the past.
Also, China has brand new, small but modern and street EVs for as low as $5K. And cheap Chinese EVs don't really catch fire because they use the cheaper LFP batteries, which are much less prone to fire than regular Lithium batteries (and are likely to quickly switch to the even cheaper Sodium batteries, whose contents are so fire-proof they could literally be used to put out fires).

SE Asian, are not poor countries, with over 600m population, with some the fastest growing economy, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines....
That is where you need to go ...

@KIA-MIA-POW
@mewt100
It's interesting that you failed to mention Burma and Laos amongst your list. As together with Thailand's 65 million, approximately 65% of the young left school after year 8. Thailand's economy is not a "fastest growing economy." It grows, but slowly as it is totally dependent upon agriculture and tourism, both having taken a hit for various reasons in the last three years.
Thanks, but one doesn't "need to go" there, as that's where one lives and works!

@tvtriviachampion
Hi from Thailand. BYD is selling like crazy here. Charging facilities have been installed in petrol stations…problem solved. Tesla opened in Thailand but doesn’t sell many cars. Too expensive.

Sadly, most European car makers were not serious about EV until Chinese EV took off.
It'll take quite some time for them to catch up... now it's depends how well the Chinese EV makers will use these advantages.

@AK-ej5ml
@stressedbyamountainofworks2047 They are a bit late, but in reality the market was tiny even a few years ago - I have no doubt that in two or three generations the established manufacturers will exceed the performance and cost position of the wast majority of start-ups - most of which, as a result, will seize to exist or at the very least merge into existing automotive manufacturers.

@stressedbyamountainofworks2047
@AK-ej5ml I agree that eventually most of the start up will not survive and eventually the market will only left with a few brands. But let see which one will survive.
At the moment, I can see Japanese car makers start to lost quite a chunk of market in SEA to Chinese brands.(European cars are not as common in this region as it's too expensive and American cars are just... we don't know any except tesla. Lol)
I think the same will eventually happen in EU as well that Chinese cars will gradually take EU cars market share.

@peterleung5361
Exactly how is the Chinese government "unfairly" subsidizing EV makers? I haven't heard anything specific from the politicians.

@crunchyfrog555
Lol, not going to happen. There is no way Tesla nor BYD could ever realistically imapct that. German cars for instance are renowned for quality. The complete opposite of BYD and Tesla.

@ruyaal
@crunchyfrog555 Living in the past...

@austinwffly2136
As an owner of three German cars, I can say, nowadays, the quality of German cars sucks !!! Will replace them by EVs soon.

The only time im buying an electric car is if there are no more gasoline cars around, im not gonna wait for hours just to recharge.

@FabioCapela
Unless you live in China. There the charging infrastructure is among the best in the world, much better than that of the US and most European countries, and a Dolphin (whose internal space is roughly equivalent to a Corolla's) starts at $15K.
In fact, EV prices in China seem to be just 20% higher than those of ICE cars, for cars with roughly the same specs. Given the lower operating costs of EVs you can recover that difference very quickly.
And this is going to be a big problem for traditional car makers in global markets. In a few years Chinese car makers should be able to export EVs for roughly the same price that the traditional car makers export ICE cars, thus risking having not just traditional carmaker's EVs, but also their ICE cars displaced by cheap Chinese EVs.

@iechuanlee9326
Western & US cars manufacturers are also subsidized by their government.

@balkanleopard9728
When the Chinese government invests in the future of their country it's called a subsidy. I really don't understand western thinking. The US Inflation Reduction Act is either, investment or subsidisation, of the US EV industry - but it is only ever referred to investment by western media. Same thing for Europe - EU subsidies are only ever called investments. Hypocrisy seems to have become a Hallmark of the West.

Let's be real. If Elon Musk never opened many patents and crucial info, that would happen at least that fast. Musk predicted that outcome and welcomed it because it benefited for all the planet. For China having EV cars is essential and vital.

@user-xq2kb5lk2j
What a joke, Tesla has a total of 3,404 patents worldwide, 2,397 of which are still in existence, and only 361 truly open patents. After excluding duplicate and similar patents, there are still 222 patents left. Of these 222 patents Appearance patents account for 9, and there are only 213 technical invention patents. These are batteries, motors, electronic controls, vehicle manufacturing, human-computer interaction, and charging piles. These patents have been avoided by mainstream Chinese manufact. . When Tesla opened its patents, the Chinese suppliers of motor and electronic control technology were no worse than Tesla, but they were not as famous as Tesla. Tesla The impact of open patents on the technical roadmap of electric vehicles is negligible

@freemusicforyou2011
@user-xq2kb5lk2j ok. Relax. China created EV better and earlier than Tesla. And off course, China never used "back engineering" and other stuff.

@user-xq2kb5lk2j
@freemusicforyou2011 First of all, I'm not nervous. Secondly, the first electric car was not made by China or Tesla. It was made by a Frenchman in the 18th century. Thirdly, there is no free lunch in the world. You have to pay for using someone else's patent, If the patent is infringed, why not sue? You will get a large amount of compensation.

@johnslater7718

I support the 'diverse Asian' market. It's a good time for West Asia to produce competitive products, while they have all the trillions of wealth. They should invest in academic institutions, research and development and then in manufacturing, marketing, etc.

This doesn't say much. Maybe BYD overproduced and had to sell with loss.

@Jake00001
This is a little misleading. Russia is a big market and China has that market captive because Tesla and other won't sell there. I am not sure if the hybrid cars are included in BYD sales.

Vw is in trouble imo but “luxury” brands like bmw, Mercedes and sport cars porsche,masarati ect will be ok although I think bmw should change those big grills in their ev’s

AVATR is incredible. Amazing design! I left China in 2019 when there was virtually no Chinese EV brands. When I went back in 2023, around 50% of the cars on the road were Chinese EV brands, it blew my mind! The rise of Chinese EV is very real and they are coming for the rest of the world.

@AK-ej5ml
Good discussion: Remember the existing participants in the market will respond, so current trends will not continue - developing a car (in particular if you are a large, existing manufacturer) takes years, so things move slowly.
The European manufacturers have weathered strong competition before and remained popular around the world - the car having a different fuel will not change this.

@user-yy9hk9od9u

The big setback for the EV industry is infrastructure so that low income families could have a place to charge. As for right now, you can get a decent sized ICE vehicle for under 25K - you can't with an EV.

@tvtriviachampion
BYD has several profitable models under $25k that are selling well. Here in Thailand the $24k BYD Dolphin is selling like crazy. More sub $25k models from BYD coming to Asia and S. America later in 2024.

@FabioCapela
Noticed that "China Speed" term that was used in the video (around the 8:30 mark)? That refers to the fact the best Chinese car makers can develop a brand new model in about half the time it takes for most non-Chinese car makers, and thus react to trends and technological advances in half the time it takes for a German or American car maker to do. This gives the Chinese a huge advantage when technology is improving as fast as it currently is, and that advantage will remain until non-Chinese car makers can greatly optimize their development processes.
