I'm pretty sure that:
Most Americans don't have strong feelings at all about Canada or Canadians.
Those Americans who have some familiarity with Canada and Canadians have generally positive feelings. The people are nice and friendly.
There might be some (good-natured) negative feelings among US hockey fans whose teams play against Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Winnipeg, Edmonton.

At one point, some of her family members were complaining about Americans' attitudes towards Canadians, "They think we're like this..." "They think we're like that..." they rattled off what they thought American stereotypes of Canadians were. "No, they don't think about us at all."
Which is true, while people near the border might have stereotypes of Canadians, most Americans never think about Canadians, let alone say bad things about them.

Very few people in the US, outside of Academia, know much about Canada. The truth is that most Americans remain somewhat ignorant of Canada, and this a good thing. The only time the average Joe knows of another country is usually because of war or conflict. As an example, who in America knew anything about Iraq before 2003? In all actuality, few in America even understood the differences between Iran and Iraq.
Therefore, Canadians should be happy that Americans just don't care about Canada. If they did, B-52s would be dropping bombs...

As a dual citizen, I have seen things from both sides of the border. Americans don't hate Canada...they just don't know Canada. America is very insular when it comes to world affairs and many folks seem to be unaware of whats happening outside their country. This of course is a generalization, but talk with many Americans and most couldn't even tell you some of the very basic things about Canada. Canadians, on the other hand, can practically sing the US anthem, recite major US historical events and offer critical thought on US foreign policy. The average American offering critical thought on Canadian foreign policy? Yeah, right.

Its interesting to watch Americans who come up here to visit...many are shocked at how cosmopolitan the country is...so many different races, cultures, types of food, modern architecture...to them, it feels like the US in many ways. Many usually assume that Canada is this big permanently frozen wasteland of tundra and some forests with a few people huddled around the US border. While this has a wee bit of truth to it, the reality is that the country is modern, vibrant and progressive. Unfortunately, we as Canadians can be a tad critical of the US and many Americans who visit and stay for a while, can feel it.

I talked with a number of US students up here to attend Canadian universities. Many enjoy the experience but are shocked at how different they thought the experience would be. Canadian universities are about education and not so much about frosh week and pledging a frat/sorority. Many feel a bit gipped out of the traditional US university party experience. Many also felt a bit hurt and startled at all criticism of the US that constantly streams out of Canadians mouths. And truth be told, Canadians can be a bit holier than thou when dishing out this criticism. US can be an easy target, especially with Trump in the White House.
But, in general, the US and Canada's relationship is indeed like that of siblings. The perfect analogy would be the big popular blond US star football player and his relationship with his younger, rounder, less secure (but no less awesome) brother.

I don't think there is a hatred for Canada at all.
I've spent the past 5 years doing business between the two countries. The way I can describe the US/Canada relationship is like this: sibling rivalry. The US to Canadians is that older brother that you look up to who gets all the girls and plays on the football team, while the US looks at Canada as the scrappy younger sibling that is trying to make a name for itself.
With all sibling rivalries there are arguments, competition, and disagreements, but there is love there. There might be joking (and sometimes it's over the top) but I don't see any of it to be malicious.

Why do Americans have such a hatred for Canada?
I don't think there is a hatred for Canada at all.
I've spent the past 5 years doing business between the two countries. The way I can describe the US/Canada relationship is like this: sibling rivalry. The US to Canadians is that older brother that you look up to who gets all the girls and plays on the football team, while the US looks at Canada as the scrappy younger sibling that is trying to make a name for itself.
With all sibling rivalries there are arguments, competition, and disagreements, but there is love there. There might be joking (and sometimes it's over the top) but I don't see any of it to be malicious.
美国人真的对加拿大怀有敌意吗？我不这么认为。

Why do some Americans have such a hatred for Canada?
I have no idea which American's you've met, but I've never met any Canada-haters. (Sitcoms do not equal reality.)
I moved to Florida from Canada in grade 4; the worst that happened then was some dumb, stereotypical questions about living in Canada and some really, really obnoxious lessons in "speaking properly". Apparently the way 'out', among other words, is said on the East Coast is wrong.
Moving from Florida (after living there for only three years) back to Canada was a lesson in bullying. Kids just honed in on the 'moved from the states' part of my story, decided I was American, and made the remaining two years of Elementary school hell. I'd say that stronger viewpoint against Americans is, if not standard, rather common in varying degrees among Canadians.
So, if anything, I'd say there's more Canadian American-haters than American Canadian-haters.
为什么有些美国人对加拿大抱有敌意？
我不确定你曾遇到过哪些美国人，但我从未遇见过讨厌加拿大的人。（电视剧的情景并不等同于现实生活。）
我在读四年级时从加拿大搬到了佛罗里达；最糟糕的经历不过是一些关于加拿大生活的陈词滥调问题，以及一些实在让人受不了的“正确发音”的课程。显然，在东海岸，像“出去”这样的词的发音方式被认为是错误的。

Even when the A/C went out on the Steam Train we were invited back to where the cars were cooler…But being from Texas we didn’t realize at 80 degrees in the summer there was a problem…

What a flight…The drug dogs followed us around and really liked our son…And when on the plane he opened his snack package of bacon everyone on the plane wanted to know where the bacon was…So we said it was probably in First Class…
I love Canada…
Very confused about how to ride the subways tho…Honor system?…Do they still have that?…
