The thing that matters most is that the BYD is HALF the price of the Cybertruck or Rivian. If this vehicle were allowed to sell at MSRP in the USA, the truck market would be forever changed, and the UAW would be terminally ill.

Rivian will sell 57,000 vehicles this year. BYD will sell 4,000,000. They're not even remotely comparable companies. One of the problems with Rivian is you don't know how much longer the company will stay in business.

The price that you mentioned for the BYD Shark includes a 16% sales tax, to have a better idea of what the cost could be in USA, it would be better to deduct that sales tax. There are two version for sale in Mexico right now, and their current cost (deducting sales tax for USA comparisson) is $38,610 and $41,580 USD.

A LOT of people in here have no idea how an engine driven generator for electric drive actually works. People claiming this thing couldn't tow must have missed how locomotives move more weight per unit of power more efficiently than anything else we have out there. That's a fossil fuel engine powering a generator to drive electric motors...sound familiar?

Then, change the intelligent power-saving mode to forced power-saving mode and set the forced power-saving level to the highest. We love to think only from one perspective, our own, but we forget there's always two sides to everystory. Over the past few decades American car companies have thrived selling American cars in China, this is in fact the biggest car market in the world and where American companies have been making the most money. When things works out your way, you're laughing all the way to the bank, but when things don't work out in your favour you change the rules to become a closed off, sheltered, protectionist country. Instead of giving up, how about making better cars, that's what a true capitalist society would do.

I would buy a BYD if I could, because it is good, if not great, and HALF the price. I like the concept of a gas generator, less moving parts to wear out. I would run it electric most of the time anyway.

The BYD would be a good option for long range towing with a 5000 lb. travel trailer. Nice alternative to the upcoming Dodge RAM EREV pickup, for people that want something smaller. Nice truck, and good value for the price.

This was the sort of vehicle I was looking for when I purchased my Santa Cruz back in '21 - midsize /small pickup truck with nice interior quality and that's a hybrid. All of the videos showing off BYD products seem to call out the decent, if not exceptional quality of the interior and overall build - features and technology are well above the usual domestic manufacturers.

I honestly expected this drive train setup to be on the Ford Maverick. When it came out as a traditional hybrid, I was disappointed. My father said back in the early 90s, "I don't know why we don't make cars like diesel locomotives. With an engine to generate electricity and have electric motors to drive the wheels." Being young, that statement always stuck with me. It is shocking, that this still isn't the norm for hybrids now.
