if you are talking about heritage they don’t look similar. I think you may be confusing geographical and ancestry aspects. East Asians are white, whiter than caucasians..while south East Asians are brown and you have everything in between.

Up to 50,000 years ago, there were movements of austronesian, Ind-malayn peoples to and from these regions. These people were “Island hopping” That is, travelling from island to island, in vessels known as balangays, which were large canoes with bamboo outriggers capable of holding up to 500 people. They would sail between these islands exploring, trading and colonising the regions they came accross. These people sailed as far east as Hawai’i, as far north as Japan, as far south as Australia, and as far west as Madagascar.
