The blame also goes to the citizens..not only the government. Our people don't care+Government doesn't make any strict rules to maintain cleanliness..

I’m from Gangtok, Sikkim which is fairly clean compared to the rest of India. We have banned plastic bags and cigarettes too. There is 100 rupees fine for spitting, smoking & littering in the main town area(MG Marg). There are cctv cameras and police on巡逻 to enforce the law. You will still find litter in various places, but there is greater awareness & education about hygiene & waste management.

Recently, during my trip to Switzerland, I was waiting for a train when I noticed a plastic chips bag lying on the platform. I ignored it and moved on. Moments later, a lady casually walking by noticed it, picked it up, and threw it in the dustbin without a second thought. This incident made me realize it's not always about the government; it's a mindset issue. Change starts with us!

If Modi ji can make the whole of India bang their utensils, I am pretty sure he can also make people follow a routine of cleaning the area near their houses every weekend along with the PWD/MCD workers. The government can provide amenities like hand gloves and broomes to the people who are willing to volunteer. The Rawandan government already did this, and these community cleanup drives made Rwanda the cleanest country in Africa. Much needed video thank you Mohak

Without banning gutkha and tobacco swach bharat is dream. And its governments responsibility to ban it. For those who think it is only people’s job to keep places clean, you are wrong. It is the government’s job to punish people who make places dirty or spit in public. If the government does not fine or punish them, how can things get better? Public places stay dirty because the government is not doing its job properly. So, in the end, it is the government’s responsibility to keep places clean by taking action.

I recently visited Nepal, I didn't find any debris or garbage on roads and during my return to India I as soon as I crossed the border I started to dirty roads with garbage every where.

I am from Nepal, I will tell you an incident. In 2023, I was travelling to Gujarat via train with my friends for a research trip. We ate bananas and snacks in the train and we were collecting the waste in a plastic bag. One Indian uncle who was sharing the train coach(across us) with us asked us to throw the trash out of the window. He out of nowhere, told us the the waste was smelling; it was in the sealed plastic bag and it had not even been few hours of storing that waste. He snatched and threw it out of the window. :/ We were all surprised and felt a bit guilty.

Thank you Mohak for talking about this issue and great work as always! Agree govt need to take measures to tackle this problem but its the duty of every individual Indians also to not litter. I have lost count of how many times I have seen people carelessly tossing garbage around despite a dustbin being present in the vicinity. Proclaiming we are the greatest culture in the world, bashing western culture and actually having the culture of trashing and destroying public places is nothing short of hypocrisy of us Indians. I hope this video reach every Indians and authorities and together we make India clean and imbibe within us the culture of keeping public places clean. First time making a contribution in youtube, but you deserve this and more!

Great mohak, It was much needed. I always think about why our city is so dirty compared to other underdeveloped and developing nations and why there is so much lack of civic sense in our society in spite we have a huge number of young populations who are educated enough to have basic civic sense and why our government doesn't do anything to promote civic sense awareness among the general population. This video summarizes most of my queries. Keep doing such work.

Civic sense is independent of the government. I don't blame people leaving the country. They want to get as far away as possible from an (mostly) uncivilized society. I once saw a hiker in France carry a few pieces of plastic he found on a mountain just to put it into the bin. He didn't complain that the government didn't have bins on the trekking route. Be the change you want to see in the Country.

You are absolutely right Mohak. I'm myself a civil services officer(Tehsildar) in J&k. And I have seen things closely. The mindset is really the problem. And no one is interested in taking a risk. Most of the officers spend their whole career just trying to save their jobs & coping with transfers.

I feel extremely proud of myself in mentioning that I have never ever littered streets; not even with a single piece of chocolate wrapper in my entire life and I'm committed to act in this way forever. It has become my second nature to hold the waste material with myself until I find a dustbin/suitable place to dispose off. That's one way how I have chosen to preserve mother nature and act as a responsible human.

I am living in Indore since I had born and my family is living here from 3 decades, whenever I watch videos in which people appreciating about the cleanness I cannot get it because we haven't realised how clean our city is compared to other cities, but when I went to Varanasi I missed my city a lot because of the hygiene and clean road I missed, in fact our peoples are very disciplined in waste management. Still so many things haven't fixed yet one of them is drainage and drinkable water but they might also be fixed for sure.

Hey Mohak, thankyou for raising such a topic. I try my best to keep my surroundings clean. Not to throw waste and not to exploit public resources which are free for all (there are very few but still). But as I try to do good, I see many people dont understand that. And that has become a way of thinking, 'humne to kachra fek diya ab isse saaf safai wale log saaf karenge, hum to uska tax bharte hai'. And this thought is very wrong. And to make every common people understand this is quite hard. And yes in the end it all comes to money. But I think, a very effective solution for this can be, having such camps in schools, where thoughts are built. There are many schools which do so but only on special occassions like, its environment day then only on that day the school plants the tree. And afterwards they do it on the next year environment day. And same about cleanliness camps. But if every school decides 1 day in the week, to plant trees, clean the periphery around school or some particular area in the city. That can be fun and interactive for students as well. And the most important lesson the studnets can get, this building of thought will be for life time. For example, cleanliness in Japanese schools, it builts a habit to keep the surroundings clean and that eventually benefits the nation.

I'm in UK right now. I visited London and I was best experience. No pollution, no traffic, no chaos. It's also very populated but still very well managed city. Both government and people are responsible for this situation in India.

I visited India recently after living abroad for many years and was shocked by the deteriorating conditions of our roads. I was surprised at Indore being the cleanest city, yet having seen quite a bit of rubbish. So you can only imagine how bad the rest of the country is. This breaks my heart as we are ridiculed a lot for this abroad and I’ve never understood how even poorer nations than India are so much cleaner

As an Indian living in the UK, and in an area that is predominantly Indian, I’ve noticed a recurring issue that deeply saddens me. Despite regular street cleaning by the local council and weekly rubbish collections, the area continues to struggle with littering and poor hygiene habits. This isn’t a matter of insufficient services, our local government does its part, but rather an issue within the community itself. It feels as though there’s a lack of awareness or education around keeping our environment clean. Public bins are available, yet litter is often thrown on the streets, and spitting in public spaces seems almost normalised. As someone who is proud of my heritage, it’s disheartening and, frankly, embarrassing to see this happening predominantly within our own community. Cleanliness is such an integral part of our cultural and spiritual values, and yet we struggle to display this!!! I hope we can work towards addressing this and setting a better example for the next generation.
