Unhinged? Okay.
Remember, everything in the store is free if you run fast enough.
That's some unhinged advice right there!

It ain’t the running fast that’s the biggest problem (though I can’t run fast at all), it’s the damn cameras!

Get any remote job and go live in some country with permissive visa rules like Albania or Egypt. Try Egypt first, and Albania will feel like the great shining hope of civilization in comparison!
$700/mo will get you a normal living in much of the world, and many smaller cities around the world are flatly better to live in than just about any of America’s car-oriented not-cities. I spent many years living in these countries living on income equivalent to the local minimum wage, and I got by just fine. You live better on $400/mo in a place like Plovdiv than $4,000 per month in the US.
Nowadays, I’ve got a fair apartment by the beach for $300/mo, work from an assortment of beachside locations while drinking $0.50 coffees, save a few thousand a month, and a day trip to Paris or Milan is a $30 plane ticket if you’re into that kind of thing.
The basic quality of life available with a decent bicycle and a few hundred dollars a month is simply superior in just about every regard to what you can have anywhere in the US, because the US simply isn’t meant for human habitation — it’s so many extortionist schemes piled on top of each other, with non-communities built for cars rather than people.
Hurghada, Egypt is one of the worst places I’ve ever lived, and my point of reference for it is that it’s nearly as tasteless and empty as an American city — but at least it has the Red Sea.
There is little reason to live in the US unless you’re a non-American who wants to turn your debt-free degree into a few decades of unburdened high income before returning to the real world.
If you do have student loan debt, leaving the country is a viable way to evade them indefinitely, and I applaud any scam victims who evade student loan debt in this manner.

Real simple. Live BENEATH your means. Decide what is more important, living with food on the table and a roof over your head or the latest tech or that tat, or going out for drinks with or without your crew. Buy a car rather than leasing one and drive it until the doors fall off. And pay cash for it. Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’s (gives away my age).
Bottom line is do not accumulate any debt at all costs.
My bonafides are, I own TWO homes (summer and winter) outright (no mortgage). I own outright TWO vehicles (a 2016 and a 2024) with no monthly payment. We live debt free on Social Security alone and a less than $90K savings.
We raised 7 kids and never used any kind of welfare. Yes it took us 2 full time incomes most of the time, and much of the time I had two full time jobs and picked up side gigs whenever the opportunity presented itself. BTW, our Gross annual income never exceeded $100K.
Has it been tough? Hell yes. It's all matter of priorities. What’s more important? Keeping up with the materialistics of your friends or those you want to impress. Or not having to lay awake worrying about how you’re going to make ends meet?

The current politicians are creating a country of economic and political oppression. Both parties have sold out to the interests of industry, whether it’s the pharmaceutical industry, defense industry or technology, such as telecom or AI. Farmers are being clobbered. Independents small businesses are be closed. These politicians want us struggling, in fear, impoverished. The only thing we can do is to run third party candidates and get every predator out of office.

I'm 70 living on SS only! My rent is now $1800 per month and Medicare is $400/mo with a supplement plan. Instead of using electric lights, I wear rechargeable headlights on my forehead day and night when I need light. When I go to bed, I turn off the circuit breaker, to the furnace so it doesn't continue to keep the water hot all night! I don't need hot water while i'm sleeping. I turn the furnace back on when I wake up! Obviously I can't do that in the cold weather so I keep the thermostat set at 60 degrees and wear sweaters, hats, and gloves!

Okay, we’re going with “unhinged”. LOL
Buy an older model family van. (Say, like a Dodge Caravan.)
Remove the back seats and replace with a wooden platform. Put a queen sized mattress on top of the wooden platform and make it up with fitted sheets, throw pillows, and a good, thick comforter.
Below the platform, put some plastic drawers on rollers (available at Staples or Office Depot) and a 48 quart Igloo cooler.
String up some black out curtains that can be pulled back (or taken down) when driving.
Wah-la! You have a rent free home on wheels! Just add a gym membership to 24Hour Fitness for showers, soaks in a hot tub, and access to cable TV, and you’re all set!
(P.S. I lived in a 1997 Dodge Caravan like this for a year in 2015. )

Honestly, if I were you, I'd probably find a cheap camper, live in it for two years, and just save money. Utilities would likely be cheap – water, power, and internet – and a modest food budget would help you achieve independence. I call it short-term pain for long-term gain. I'm pretty sure you could save $10,000-$15,000 living like this each year, then you'd have a nice cushion to rent an apartment or maybe put towards a house.

Start growing a garden. Preferably a community garden. Tend orchards. Tend sheep, goats, and chickens. Learn skills like foraging and hunting, making necessities like soap, cloth, learn to generate energy, collect rainwater. Essentially, learn to be self-sufficient.
Things are going to get much worse before they get better.

If at all possible move to a difference country. Seriously. This is problem that is disproportionately hitting the US due to its economic policies. I’m not going to point at any single party because both are deeply complicit.
Take your skills and try to get residency and a right to work in another country with an economy that is setup for most people to be able to have a reasonable quality of living. Quality of living doesn’t mean just being able to buy expensive things. Things won’t make you happy, in fact my experience has been very much the opposite. In general what will make most people happy is having lower stress and very little causes long term stress like being constantly worried about money.

First: You have a Need column and a Want column. The more closely the two are aligned, the more stable you will be. Second: don’t worry about what others have or do. Do what makes you happy. Which many times is different from what gives you pleasure. Third: surround yourself with likeminded people.

It's hitting everyone it seems. When you go grocery shopping cut out what you want in the way of snacks & soda. That increases your bill.. Be sure going out to eat is worth it rather than cooking..I got rid of cable a few yrs ago and saved $100 a month. I have Roku TV so I get many free shows besides Utube.. For those that drink/ smoke..cut down. That will save a lot.

Fasting.
Actually serious, though. Combating the increasing price of food is only one of the benefits, however. We really don’t need 3 meals a day—it’s actually quite unhealthy.
I learned this in the pandemic when I got wiped out, and didn’t have money for food. Eating less greatly improved my health, I strongly recommend it.
Were we to eat less, lower demand for food—at least according to supply/demand theory—should lower prices.

Most unhinged?! GO WITHOUT!!! Yeah, pay your bills, and pay for food.
But No candy! No movies! No toys! No drinks at the bar! No pack a day cigarettes! No $100 dollar jeans!
You were going to buy a car? Hold off and save up! You were going to buy a new playstation? Hold off and save up! Re-assess later! For now… no fun stuff!
I know! Blasphemy right! But yeah.

The best advice I can give is, boycott rent. Start squatting in parks and forests. They make 4 season tents. We need to remove the demand for housing, so these criminals are stuck with worthless buildings when the crash comes. Then we swoop in, with all the rent money we've saved, and buy them cheap. Boycott ALL services. Let's show the middle class slugs and upper class scum that we do not need them. We need to absolutely annihilate the economy and if that scares you then you are not actually poor and don't need this advice.
John Grabski
Don't buy anything unless it's an absolute necessity. I am serious. You've all heard the down hill saying, but it's true. Rich get richer by inclusion. It is a pyramid. If you buy only the absolute necessities the all the swimmers landlords, recreational products, automobile salesmen, even funeral parlors will be forced to reduce prices to attract buyers at a reduced cost. The world's based on supply and demand.Heres an example from my days on the farm. We grew eggplants and sold the “ eggs” from them. For me at the times they were a pain in the kiester. Took much hand care to grow, fruits, the eggs are fragile to hand without damage and the don't fit well into the containers we had so it took extra handelling to load and unload from the truck at market. They sold like hot cakes. We rarely had any to take back. So one day I asked the lady I worked for why we did all this for some thing most of us on the farm didn't like any way. She replied “those “ things” you so dislike bring in good reliable cash that helps pay your wages, they reliably sell out. You can't sell folks what they don't want and they really want these.” I was maybe 8 or 9 at the time. These words have rang true my entire life. Always be frugal. Save all you can. When inflation soars cut back where you can. No one person can usually do little to stop this but banded to get her the strength can topple the biggest empires and stop the otherwise unstoppable.

Stop all tariffs and revert to free trade with all countries. Tariffs raise the cost of imported goods.
Stop deporting immigrants and increase number of annual immigrants. Most of these people are working. Restricting the number of people working increases the cost of labor.
For example, remodeling a house for rental: wood (from Canada) costs more due to tariffs. Immigrant labor (carpentry, roofing, etc.) costs more. Contractors now have to pay more to get native born Americans to do the same jobs. The cost of the remodel is more. The owner needs to charge more for rent to pay off the remodel..
