You’re right that people are warming up to China, not believing the US narrative as much, etc. but one party rule, authoritarianism, and dictatorships are absolutely still considered “the root of all evil” not literally. Outside of extreme and often very small communities you will not find many Americans, even young disillusioned ones, in support of one party rule.

So interesting how China's development, infrastructure, technology, healthcare, unrivalled safety etc. somehow are unrelated to the Party. China is one of the only countries on the planet that isn't enduring a cost of living crisis, and is recently ranked amongst scandinavian countries in "societal trust" as a diverse country with over 1.4B people. Chinese culture has been the dominant Asian culture for decades and Korean culture has only been known since 2018 or so.
Every movie about Asian has been primarily Chinese in the west. Shang chi, crouching tiger hidden dragon, everything everywhere all at once, fresh off the boat, big trouble little China, all the Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, etc. Chinese culture, dress, food, art, tattoos, furniture, etc has been appreciated for decades now. I would say that those were more of Hong Kong / Taiwan specific culture though. Cantonese culture is very accepted and celebrated in the west. But not the rest of China. Hong Kong used to be a west aligned (not anymore) region of China, so it makes sense that the culture was more widely celebrated.
I don't think Hong Kong / Taiwan can represent Chinese culture as a whole. Also, between Hong Kong / Taiwan vs Korea vs Japan, Korean and Japanese culture are perceived much more positively and cool. Especially Japan

Japanese and Korean culture are valued and respected because they're politically, and culturally, aligned with the west. Korean banned dog meat, Kpop is based on western pop music , Korean fashion is often european looking (think of those long black coats, turtlenecks, etc). Japanese people are polite, non-confrontational, and clean. This is not to say that those countries don't retain their native cultural elements, they do and have a lot of it, but I think they introduced themselves to the west by adopting large amounts of western culture first.

Hello! I am not Chinese nor do I associate with people who say they are in their "Chinese era". However, there are many aspects of Chinese culture that I(personally) and we(the US) have come to appreciate. China is at the top of the game in the arts. While the US is failing under corporate pressure, Chinese companies have been putting out some of the most wonderful movies, music, games, animations, etc. Also, the US is facing many crises that have not been sent by this generation so when we see a prosperous nation succeeding where we are failing, it makes us appreciate the underlying culture that makes such a monstrous trade economy work while continuing to have underlying traditional roots. To answer your question: Yes, there are Chinaboos. But as with everything else on the internet, they may be a loud minority. I know the US is not the world, but I wanted to weigh in and give my perspective.

All I know is that me and my fiance are Gen Z and we’ve recently gotten really into China lately, im not sure if it’s the fact that maybe more pro-Chinese stuff has been showing up on our social medias or not, or what came first. But it kind of “opened our eyes” to how nice China seems. We haven’t visited yet but plan to. I do feel like I’ve seen more pro-China sentiment lately more than in the past, but I could be wrong. Here in the US we really are just so sick and fucking tired of this bullshit. What really enchants me is the dream of walking around in a place where I feel truly safe, which China seems to excel in.

I think it’s bc in the US at least, people are finally seeing all the propaganda the US government is putting out in support of war around the world and now the American claim on human rights and freedom or democracy or whatever were basically lies. And with social media they’ve seen that life in China was not what American propaganda said it would which blew some people’s minds (also just finding out in general Americans don’t have comparatively better lives compared to people in poorer countries.
Overall I guess this was to be expected as trends come and go and the China bad narrative only dates to the anti Communism era (and well, before that just straight up racism).

Chinese culture and media, for a long time, was hidden behind this gigantic dam called "The great firewall". Because of the separation of our internet, there hasn't been much crossover in western social media/cultural awareness of China, and Chinese media.
That dam is starting to develop cracks. Popular Chinese media is coming out in the west like Black Myth Wukong, God Troubles Me, the NeZha movies, Hei, Three Body, and Heaven Official's Blessing. Chinese culture has been the dominant Asian culture for decades and Korean culture has only been known since 2018 or so.
Every movie about Asian has been primarily Chinese in the west. Shang chi, crouching tiger hidden dragon, everything everywhere all at once, fresh off the boat, big trouble little China, all the Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, etc. Chinese culture, dress, food, art, tattoos, furniture, etc has been appreciated for decades now. I would say that those were more of Hong Kong / Taiwan specific culture though. Cantonese culture is very accepted and celebrated in the west. But not the rest of China. Hong Kong used to be a west aligned (not anymore) region of China, so it makes sense that the culture was more widely celebrated.
I don't think Hong Kong / Taiwan can represent Chinese culture as a whole. Also, between Hong Kong / Taiwan vs Korea vs Japan, Korean and Japanese culture are perceived much more positively and cool. Especially Japan

Japanese and Korean culture are valued and respected because they're politically, and culturally, aligned with the west. Korean banned dog meat, Kpop is based on western pop music , Korean fashion is often european looking (think of those long black coats, turtlenecks, etc). Japanese people are polite, non-confrontational, and clean. This is not to say that those countries don't retain their native cultural elements, they do and have a lot of it, but I think they introduced themselves to the west by adopting large amounts of western culture first.

Hello! I am not Chinese nor do I associate with people who say they are in their "Chinese era". However, there are many aspects of Chinese culture that I(personally) and we(the US) have come to appreciate. China is at the top of the game in the arts. While the US is failing under corporate pressure, Chinese companies have been putting out some of the most wonderful movies, music, games, animations, etc. Also, the US is facing many crises that have not been sent by this generation so when we see a prosperous nation succeeding where we are failing, it makes us appreciate the underlying culture that makes such a monstrous trade economy work while continuing to have underlying traditional roots. To answer your question: Yes, there are Chinaboos. But as with everything else on the internet, they may be a loud minority. I know the US is not the world, but I wanted to weigh in and give my perspective.

All I know is that me and my fiance are Gen Z and we’ve recently gotten really into China lately, im not sure if it’s the fact that maybe more pro-Chinese stuff has been showing up on our social medias or not, or what came first. But it kind of “opened our eyes” to how nice China seems. We haven’t visited yet but plan to. I do feel like I’ve seen more pro-China sentiment lately more than in the past, but I could be wrong. Here in the US we really are just so sick and fucking tired of this bullshit. What really enchants me is the dream of walking around in a place where I feel truly safe, which China seems to excel in.

I think it’s bc in the US at least, people are finally seeing all the propaganda the US government is putting out in support of war around the world and now the American claim on human rights and freedom or democracy or whatever were basically lies. And with social media they’ve seen that life in China was not what American propaganda said it would which blew some people’s minds (also just finding out in general Americans don’t have comparatively better lives compared to people in poorer countries.
Overall I guess this was to be expected as trends come and go and the China bad narrative only dates to the anti Communism era (and well, before that just straight up racism).
I find this vaguely annoying though as a Chinese American person, esp putting up with all the crap we did during Covid.

Chinese culture and media, for a long time, was hidden behind this gigantic dam called "The great firewall". Because of the separation of our internet, there hasn't been much crossover in western social media/cultural awareness of China, and Chinese media.
That dam is starting to develop cracks. Popular Chinese media is coming out in the west like Black Myth Wukong, God Troubles Me, the NeZha movies, Hei, Three Body, and Heaven Official's Blessing. Now it's essentially a meme to romanticize Chinese-ness in the same way westerners romanticize the Romans.
