Rockets are not a thing you build in your garage. They need a whole industry and infrastructure surrounding them, a massive budget, and very specialized people. After the first missions were successful, there really was no incentive to keep the budget and the missions. No budget = no industry and no infrastructure.

More computing power doesn't suddenly change physics. It's hard to get things to the moon because it's hard to get things into space, let alone get them to the moon and back.
