To be fair, this does seem like one of those unadaptable things. It's really not easy to see that translated as a TV show

I think you can adapt the first book (Mostly, anyways). Hell, even the second one is probably doable. The third one, however, gets so fucking bizarre that parts of it felt like I was reading a novelization of End of Evangelion. I *hope* it gets to Death's End because I'm legitimately curious how they would try to adapt that book, but that one feels utterly unadaptable to live action.

Read the first book months back and interesting stuff .But being Netflix I worry a little,hope they don't dumb it down to a generic plot.
Edit : my major reason for worrying about being turned into a generic plot is because the book is hard sci Fi where lots of scientific terms are used which makes the dialogue quite a chore at times and kind of clunky at times.
It makes up for that with an intriguing Mystery and some fascinating ideas The three body game in the novel is quite fascinating.

Yeah, I feel like the author really grew during the writing of the series. The dialog in book one is atrocious. They definitely get better as they progress.

Same. It had some interesting ideas but it was in no way groundbreaking in the scifi genre, like so many people praise it. The alien biology and culture was all left rather vague and abstract, which felt very hand-wavey. Not to mention the thin characters.
It feels like Liu Cixin is like Paulo Coelho of scifi: their writing may feel deep and thought-provoking if you don't have that much experience in the genre. But read some Alastair Reynolds or Hannu Rajaniemi, and the ideas and their draft-like presentation in TBP won't impress you.

I doubt we will see a negative reaction to this on the scale we did for TROP or HOTD though.

I would expect it's to give us some continuity when the story focus shifts to them. If we start a new season and suddenly switch MC to someone entirely new, I suspect it would throw a lot of viewers.

I don't think that's Sophon. In the last seconds of the video, there's a brief shot of her striking her sword at whoever John Bradley is playing, him dressed in Medi-looking clothes. This all might be the game and they're actually expanding Book 1, instead of trimming it down to cut to the best parts. Them not calling the series with its proper name and not being able to pronounce Liu Cixin's name correctly is an indelible stain on this adaptation, but it's... possible that's the only problem with it.
Edit: Plus, the clapperboard on what appears to be a control panel at Radar Peak says "EP 02", so Ye Wenjie's story may get the proper, lengthy treatment it deserves.

I must say, while it looks like it's gonna be great I'm a bit disappointed by some of the changes. Most notably the location change. While having the first story's present day storyline happen in London rather than Beijing doesn't change much plotwise, I do feel like much will be lost culture wise. Feels like a bit of a disservice. But who knows, it still looks nice.
