As a Singaporean Chinese, I've never been asked to go back to China by my fellow Singaporean Malays nor have I ever been called a 'cina babi' or a 'pendatang' in my entire life.

Furthermore, no one here in Singapore has any racial benefits and all work in accordance to the ladder of meritocracy.

Hence I have a country I'm proud of which in turn, makes me see China as only the country where my ancestors came from and nothing else.

But for the Malaysian Chinese on the other hand, the opposite happens.

They have been constantly targeted by the right winged Malay parties and their radical supporters.

Seen as cash cows and scapegoated for almost every problem of the country just like the Indonesian Chinese and have been constantly insulted with terms like 'kafir', ‘babi’ and 'pendatang' despite their major contributions to Malaysia.

Last but not least, they are definitely not equal to the Malays because of its race based policies.

Guess this is why they don’t call us the Jews of Asia for nothing huh?

You may think this is a phenomenon of old but in reality it's still very much alive like the recent Malay dignity Congress which saw some old dude claim that Malaysia had a 5000 year history and that Malaysia was only for Malays.

When in reality the terms of Malaysia's independence from the British was that it become a multi racial country with all its Malays, Chinese and Indians as Malaysians.

My question is that when people don’t see you as a fellow countryman and demand that you return to the place where your ancestors hailed from, would you still feel any ounce of loyalty towards that country?

Of course I’m not saying that all Malaysian Chinese people have shriveled their loyalty and love towards Malaysia as some of the most anti-Singapore cancerous Malaysian clowns I’ve witnessed weren’t Malaysian Malays but were Malaysian Chinese instead.

All I’m saying is that the more the Malaysian government tries to split Malaysia up along the lines of race and religion, the only thing left to experience would just be the fading loyalty of the minorities towards Malaysia and their increased kinship towards China, India or whichever place their ancestors came from.

If you ask me, this is UMNO's and the general Ketuanan Melayu fault. You keep calling the Chinese Pendatang, of course they would affiliate and at times gravitate towards China. Look at Singaporeans, the principal and identity we are taught, we are independent, we are from this side, and we have our own interests in the region.

In what point you see Chinese Malaysian is Pro PRC. Why don't you just say ask why they dislike the American FBI? I guest they will give you a quick answer. America is creating war all over the world. So simple. Why can't you realize that?

Singaporeans are treated like Singaporeans. Chinese Malaysians are treated like second class citizens.
The Malaysia government include Islam administration as part the federal structure where taxes are spent on Islamic matters and preachers but none on other religions.
The Malays get to buy property with 10% discount regardless of if they are the rich ones or the poor ones. Such is not done at the free will of the developers , but rather enforced by laws and regulations.
there are more such examples. It is like the government wanted to make Chinese feel mistreated so that they can migrate out from here.

Why are you guys so concerned about us whether we are pro or anti China? Did China massacre your nation people?Put your time into more constructive thing rather than holding grudge against who China that did nothing harmful to you! Use your brain wisely!

They just have a stronger sense of justice, what's right what's wrong and sharper eyes to see through the hypocrisy and double standards of the overloading western hegemony

I am not really sure about Malaysian Chinese, but the more the racial card is played over and over again by puerile Malaysian politicians, more and more of their Chinese citizens become pro-China.
As for Singaporean Chinese, they are more discerning. Their loyalty lies with Singapore, their country, but this does not mean they are anti-China. In fact, the more the western politicians and medias spew falsehoods and demonize China, the more pro China the Chinese become, as they can see, (and have visited China), to know the truths, that the China today is not the hardcore Co unist China of the Maoist era.
That China is very progressive, modern and economically, a power house in international trade. The people in China today, are as free as you and I in our countries, free to live the lives they want, have the education and pursue the business or career they prefer, without hindrance from the , so long as they abide by the country's laws, rules, and regulations. It's a safe, and progressive environment unlike some so called “de ocratic” nations in rhe West !!

I am Malaysian Chinese by default. I am neither pro nor anti PRC, my loyalty is to my homeland call Malaysia. PRC is the ancestral motherland of my ancestors make no different to me in term of loyalty. At most I admire China progress just like any other developed nation.
Any perceived discrimination, that is another topic for discussion. Any racism in society, that is individual racist trait that does not represent entire race! The silent majority still live in peace and harmony in this multi racial society. Many of them struggle daily try to put food on table to feed their family.

Only older Malaysian Chinese are pro-PRC in general, the younger ones who grow up in Malaysia- we don’t share the same sentiment having grown up with different values and political environments. I’d say there’s little to no difference in how young Malaysian Chinese and Singaporean Chinese view PRC.
Some of us are really overwhelmingly pro-PRC due to business ties with China in which the rise of PRC is directly lixed to this group’s economic well-being. Having said that, most of us don’t dislike PRC by default, but we don’t really think of it too favourably either. Most young Malaysian Chinese are rather neutral on PRC, I’d say. We understand the economic might of China but can relate to ROC (Taiwan) more with its soft cultures.

John Chin
The question is misleading.
The 7 million Malaysian ethnic Chinese is not a monolithic bloc. For example, while older Malaysian Chinese tend to support PRC official stance in the ongoing Hong , a substantial number of youngsters have identified themselves with Hong Kong protesters. Many young Chinese in Malaysia are sympathetic to the cry for in . These young Malaysian Chinese’s view of the PRC is shaped by Western liberal media.

Another example — In the 2018 general election, the former Malaysian government’s attempt to play China card by showcasing mega projects under Belt and Road Initiative failed to impress Malaysian Chinese voters. Malaysian Chinese overwhelmingly voted for the then opposition led by Tun Mahathir Mohammad, who once in power suspended and later renegotiated with China on the East Coast Rail lix (ECRL) project, slashing project cost from RM66 billion to RM44 billion.

On the other hand, although there is a large number of Singaporean Chinese who identify with its own government’s equidistance stance towards both PRC and the Western bloc, there is a vocal minority who is staunchly pro-PRC. In fact, you find them here in Quora
So which group of ethnic Chinese has more pro-PRC tendency? Honestly, it’s hard to tell. Most of the answers here are no better than guesswork conditioned by bias.

Several answers cited “discrimination policies against Malaysian Chinese” as the reason for “lack of loyalty” among Malaysian Chinese.
The race-based affirmative action policy practiced by Malaysia is indeed divisive and controversial. It is a complex issue with political reality rooted in history and demography. It will take more than a Quora answer to explain (which I’m not inclined to do)

Among the Malaysian Chinese population, there is a group called Peranakan (more commonly known as Baba and Nyonya) who have lived for several centuries in the land called Malaysia today. Peranakan Chinese have assimilated into the local Malay culture — speaking fluent Malay and dressed in traditional Malay attire. Despite their cultural assimilation, they are not treated as the Bumiputra (son of the soil) as Malay does. So Peranakan Chinese “suffer” the same “discrimination” like other ethnic Chinese.

It’s actually quite simple.
When you feel cannot trust your government to look out for your own interest, you will be tempted to wave the flag of another country who you think might be in a position to help you if something goes very wrong.
What you are tempted to do is one thing. But if you actually do wave the flag of another country, expect consequences.
This is the same whether it is Hong Kong or Malaysia.
In Singapore our fate is in our own hands and we will not feel pressured to take sides.

Simple
Malaysia has made it clear it will not support Chinese dominance and gave Malay superiority the priority, hence the Chinese need to stand along witheir kind, and as China people , not ALL but many are very nice in general whereas Singapore, is multiracial only to a certain extent with Chinese locals’ dominance in most areas,,at least 50–55%,,, rest being between whites, ,Indians, and Malays, others .
Also Malaysia has China big investors a many…..

Over here, they , local Chinese, want to be the “ in charge” .
Hence Chinese influx is not welcomed by many.
Many Indians, Malays , including myself found it hard to get jobs at times in the past, and some still do,,,based on being unable to speak Chinese….etc. Even though we are capable of the job, or even better In some areas.
