Got mine ripped out in Recruit Training. Inadequate anesthesia, only a day to recover, and digging food out of the poorly-stitched holes with the back of a safety pin in the middle of the night made it a very uncomfortable experience.
Word of advice: if anyone is planning on joining the military, get your wisdom teeth out beforehand.

One of my molars fell out and my wisdom tooth finally has the chance to actually do its job. And even then, it requires years of help to actually move into the right spot. And my other wisdom teeth are literally horizontal. It is impressive how bad they are at being useful teeth.

I’ve always been SOOOOO grateful to have ALL FOUR of my WT grow at the same time (around age 19-20) but straight up instead of causing a mess :D I was so scared to have to remove them. But they just popped up and didn’t trigger any issue. Whew !!

They shoved my other teeth forward enough that the root of one of my other molars started impinging on a major facial nerve and giving me a permanent migraine. When we eventually figured this out and had them all removed. Instant relief! I’m the only person I know who had less pain after oral surgery.

As one of the very few people who has had miraculously zero problems with my wisdom teeth growing out, I STILL have issues with them on a frequent basis anyway, like when I wanna extend my jaw to the sides and they end up grinding upon the very back of it.

I on the other hand had cavities from early in life, never had a tooth that came in in-line, had braces in high school, and had all 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed in my 20’s. Years of fear of the pain to have all 4(impacted like they are fully horizontal) removed just for the dentist to do an amazing job and have zero pain even for the first couple of hours after anesthesia wore off. There are people (a lot in Asia) that have even smaller jaws, to the point they don’t even have enough space for the "basic" teeth. That’s why having crooked teeth in Japan is common, and the only way to fix it is to get rid of the four small ones on the sides of the front ones, and then arrange the rest with the now enough space using braces. But at least most of them don’t get the Wisdom teeth anymore, otherwise the room gets even more packed and teeth have no where else to go than in between and behind/ahead of others (impacted).

All 3 of mine grew in with no issues. I never had the 4th but had plenty of room for it.

I had all 4 come in just fine, but because of space constraints, the gums partially overlapped the back parts and i couldn't over time keep them clean enough and got holes, so i removed the top 2 in my early 30s and now the first of my lower ones at 37, and will probably have to remove the other lower later this year or next. The top ones came out easy, but the bottom one not as much... My dentist left the bottom of the roots inside the jaw and just flattened and polished them so they wouldn't irritate and potentially infect the gums. I'm on paracetamol, but managed to keep working the same day, yesterday and today. But I've heard of several people that had pieces of their jaw bone removed to get the roots out, and they were knocked out for a few days on the strong stuff.

I asked if I got numbed, instead of being knocked out, if I'd be able to drive myself home and I could. It was one of the strangest feelings to be able to hear the saw and feel my whole head being pulled down, but not being able to feel anything inside my mouth. No pain or the texture of the gloves and tools being used. There was a good week where I had to be careful of how I ate, but that didn't change what I ate. I still enjoyed my favorite food, I just had to eat slower and smaller bites to avoid damaging the wounded area of my mouth or cause infection.

That can be translated literally into English as wisdom teeth (verstand = wisdom, kiezen = teeth although the word specifically refers to the molars), but you can also use a different emphasis and pronounce it "VERstandskiezen", in which case it would refer to molars in the back of the mouth, which is also correct. Since I'm missing 3 out of 4 of them and the 4th one has never emerged from my jaw, I make it a point to use the second pronunciation.

I had two or three of my wisdom teeth (I legitimately don't remember which), and as they started growing in, they began irritating the sides of my mouth. That caused inflammation, which blocked my parotid duct (salivary tube). Caused a ton of jaw and even neck pain on and off for several months before the doctor said, "time to get those things removed". Fun fact: most people get their wisdom teeth unnecessary removed, as your adult jaw need about 8 years to adapt to them. Only if a wisdom tooth is loose or there is an infection underneath it should it be pulled. And if that is the case you heal up quick. The fact that you spend a week on the couch eating ice-cream is unfortounally the proof you tooth was taken out unnecessarily.

I'm almost 48 and my dentist recommends I keep mine. I've never had an issue, never even felt them come in that I'm aware of! My brothers and my childrens all grew in impacted :(

Why do we have tailbones? Nobody dies faster because of their tailbone, so there's no reason for a "tailbone: no" gene to become advantageous and spread more

But one day I got the feeling they where a little bit more sore then usual. Waited a day or two and didn't like how it was going so I made the decision I wasn't going to tempt fate and got them out in the next few weeks.
It's the only time I've had a surgery and been put out. I got lucky and didn't have any adverse effects.
I even experimented with less and less oxi they gave me as it was healing up. I always hear horror story's from people that stuff doesn't go as well.

I have one remaining and it seems to be in good condition. Like another poster mentioned I had a small jaw as well but had bracers growing up so they had already pulled out 4 teeth.

I have 3 and I'm glad I have them. I've had 2 molars taken out and the wisdom teeth have moved forward into their place. I still have one on the bottom not fully erupted but it's not harming me, so it can just stay there until I need it. I don't see the point in removing teeth for no reason. Especially when there are risks associated with extraction.

When I was 21, my dentist convinced me to have my wisdom teeth removed even though they weren't impacted. Later in life, because I am disabled and low income, I couldn't afford dental care and have lost all my upper molars. If I hadn't been convinced to have those teeth removed, I would at least have a couple of molars to chew with. In my experience, Income is a huge factor and dentistry should consider these issues before preemptively taking unnecessary and costly action.

It was ugly, painful, and my cheap insurance company paid for Novocain but no other anesthesia. My dad still has 2 of his because of how complicated it would be to remove them.

I only had 3, and one was impacted so the common procedure in Canada is to remove all when one is needing removal. Removing the two that weren’t impacted noticeably altered my face symmetry. I would caution others against getting unnecessary surgeries unless there is significant cost savings (in this case there wasn’t and I wish I would’ve said no to the other two teeth that were chillin)

I remember getting mine removed all at the same time. And getting my gums separated from my jaw in the same surgery so I wouldn't "need" to wear my retainer anymore. Then I heard a week later they don't do that surgery anymore due to it being too barbaric

I guess I'm weird. When I got mine taken out, I had barely any pain, and was back to regular food in a few days. In fact, I road a bicycle home from the dentist's office (about a mile).

I have all four. Came in all at once, perfectly at the age of 16. 50 years later I may have them pulled due to cavities, been hard to keep them clean all the way back there!
