I have this exact machine, only with all options. We ran a batch of 200 stepped pins one day out of 4140, and it held .0003" the entire time. We had the same issue with offsets. Some of these machines left the factory with wrong parameters installed. After a few emails, they sent us the proper parameters along with a video showing how to upload them, and it's been spot on ever since!

Be sure to peel off that clear sticker on the LCD - eventually the adhesive will dry out and the sticker will shrivel up making a mess of the display. If you want to protect the LCD against shop swarf cut a piece of acrylic or polycarbonate and stick it to the bezel with a thin strip of double-sided tape (eventually you'll have to replace the plastic and tape, but the underlying LCD should still be in good condition).

These Chinese machines are not bad. I own a Chinese purpose-built 5-axis I got for about $30K before tariffs. Had to learn all the quirks with the custom controller, but the company is very supportive and the hardware is great.

Good machine, good hardware, software is quirky. But it works well with F360 after some playing.
It's for sale if you want it, sadly we had to move out of our warehouse and don't have much room to store it.

Is not fusion360 fault ,First You need to set g54( position of stock) then u need to go to tool table and set offsets for toll that u will be use in program. feed and speed you look to the back on the box of inserts and start with those numbers.

The reason your finish is so bad is your feed rate to rpm (IPR) is way off especially with using carbide inserts as well. Running aluminum and steels with a VNMG insert you want a far higher rpm like 2000-4000 depending on stock diameter and material. Focusing on keeping your IPR to around .01 ish, and a good finish IPR around .005. The reason your insert chipped was such a slow rpm with that intense feed rate. Carbide likes to go fast and smooth not slow and rough due to how brittle it is vs something like HSS

You might want to take a look and make sure that it has a hard machine stop for the Z axis. I have a similar machine and it did not have one and I was running a program that had been ran hundreds of times and not been edited at all that day and all of a sudden the tool crashed into the chuck jaws breaking the tool changer and causing a lot of damage. After that, I went and found a spot under the ways on the bed and drilled and tapped holes and put up an aluminum crushed block that would prevent the tool from ever going to into the chuck jaws again.

That is pretty much pointless as if you use a longer tool for boring for example it would still crash in to the chuck. you made a mistake somewhere, maybe a wrong offset in Z, program didn't change but your zero could be changed from previous program.

@dodienko the point is not to keep from destroying tools it’s from to keep from running the tool changer into the chuck. In my situation, the tool changer was broken off the saddle when it ran into the Chuck spinning at 3000 RPM.

I have machines which cost more than 1 million € and none has a "hard stop" for that purpose - i never in my whole work life saw any machine having this - because tools have different length and this would only work with one specific tool length. Not to mention boring bars and stuff.

@rene_geryou just set the block to the point where the tool changer block is almost hitting the chuck. You're not gonna have any tools that are gonna go "deeper" than that, since your tool holder would be hitting the chuck. Obviously that doesn't work on different styles of machines, but for this one, it does.

Will you still be able to crash a tool into the machine? Sure. But you can absolutely set a hard stop that will prevent the tool changer from crashing into the machine. Which is what OP is talking about - having an OD tool in the tool changer and the machine driving the tool changer into the spinning chuck, destroying the tool changer vs just destroying a tool.

Very cool to see a review of the China machine and GSK control. Need to set control to Diameter mode, then take a test cut, measure, then set the X axis to the diameter you measured. It's hard to find much info on the GSK controls, glad to see this one here.

Interesting CNC. However, I’ve heard that many cutting plates need far more than 1 500 RPM so that the chips break into small chips rather than winding up into a ribbon.

You need to sort out your speeds, feeds and tip sextion for the material being cut, plus tip radius. Also incorporate constant cutting speed usually a G96, plus coolant would be handy, but I guess if you're filming thats a bit tricky.

One other thing concerning that tool changer when it changes tools it rises up just a little bit so that he can spin and then locks back down before it starts turning the part you wanna watch to make sure shavings don’t get in that area it doesn’t look like they’ll get there, but they do. We used my Lathe with the same tool changer and about every 20,000 parts machining aluminum I had to change out the tool changer due to wear. It would get to the point where it would flex under heavy cuts, and wouldn’t hold tolerance

Most interesting vid, thank you. I'm not familiar with this control. On the Fanuc control to set the X offset I would manually take a chip, measure the diameter, go the the offset page enter the diameter you just cut (without moving the tool in X) hit measure button and that is your offset. The 1200 rpm seems way too slow to me when facing to center. Seems like a surprising decent machine considering the unbelievably low price. Again, I enjoy your vids very much and appreciate the effort you put into them.

I would have bought a used (but not used up) Japanese lathe with a turret and Fanuc control. They are out there, but you have to keep an eye out and be ready to jump when they come available.

Well, a few years ago I bought a second chuck for my lathe, a pull tube hydraulically actuated collet chuck for 173e collets, about 42mm max. The chuck was 8 grand and the 40 collets were about another 4 grand.
It was a Japanese machine tool, and damn it, it broke down very quickly.

Theres gotta be a offset to set tool to the center line of chuck. Also the spindle should be running at 2500 to 3000rpm like others said. Id image for a good finish passcut 15 to 20 ipm Very cool you bought this and showed it. Love all your machine retro fits. People really like seeing that kinda stuff . Merry Christmas

Yeh youre feeding way too fast for your rpm. I would put a clock indicator on the machine and move say 1mm and see what it actually moves to ensure its dialed in properly. There will be parameters for altering it. Great little machine tho for the cost

That's a great deal, if it sounds like for some reason your machine is reading diameter instead of radius, or vice versa..... If something was drastically off, it would have crashed right into the part, but being that it basically took about half of whatever you had programmed, I think you're cam software is outputting diameter, and your machine is reading it as depth of cut on the radius. That would be my guess.

I know from my experience with a Hitachi CNC lathe that offsets are wear offsets which you enter small amounts of offset cut the part a zero offset and then move the offset in or out as needed to bring in your dimension.

Other controls have Geometry offsets as well as Wear. Geometry offsets are an extra cost option on Fanuc controls - you can use the machine without them, but it is faster and more convenient to pay for the extra function.

first thing i do is measurement tests. Using gauges and calibrated tools; i always want to know my “machine” tolerances. I don’t care if a machine is rough as long as I know how rough. Each of my tools has a purpose and a tolerance. Most Chinese stuff is a reasonable deal as long as you know the downside. They usually tell you that you’re buying a Ferrari but let’s be honest as long as it is a Vette I am ok with it. This is why Lincoln and Miller are having such a rough time lately. We all know that shits made in China and assembled or shipped here. If there is a Chinese equivalent that’s half price with 90% of the features then we are winning.

If I ever get machines they'll be antique manual ones in all likelihood, although you have shown that old CNC stuff can be had for cheap and brought back into service, so there's that too...

I have this exact machine, only with all options. We ran a batch of 200 stepped pins one day out of 4140, and it held .0003" the entire time. We had the same issue with offsets. Some of these machines left the factory with wrong parameters installed. After a few emails, they sent us the proper parameters along with a video showing how to upload them, and it's been spot on ever since!

Be sure to peel off that clear sticker on the LCD - eventually the adhesive will dry out and the sticker will shrivel up making a mess of the display. If you want to protect the LCD against shop swarf cut a piece of acrylic or polycarbonate and stick it to the bezel with a thin strip of double-sided tape (eventually you'll have to replace the plastic and tape, but the underlying LCD should still be in good condition).

Good machine, good hardware, software is quirky. But it works well with F360 after some playing.

The reason your finish is so bad is your feed rate to rpm (IPR) is way off especially with using carbide inserts as well. Running aluminum and steels with a VNMG insert you want a far higher rpm like 2000-4000 depending on stock diameter and material. Focusing on keeping your IPR to around .01 ish, and a good finish IPR around .005. The reason your insert chipped was such a slow rpm with that intense feed rate. Carbide likes to go fast and smooth not slow and rough due to how brittle it is vs something like HSS

You might want to take a look and make sure that it has a hard machine stop for the Z axis. I have a similar machine and it did not have one and I was running a program that had been ran hundreds of times and not been edited at all that day and all of a sudden the tool crashed into the chuck jaws breaking the tool changer and causing a lot of damage. After that, I went and found a spot under the ways on the bed and drilled and tapped holes and put up an aluminum crushed block that would prevent the tool from ever going to into the chuck jaws again.

That is pretty much pointless as if you use a longer tool for boring for example it would still crash in to the chuck. you made a mistake somewhere, maybe a wrong offset in Z, program didn't change but your zero could be changed from previous program.

@dodienko the point is not to keep from destroying tools it’s from to keep from running the tool changer into the chuck. In my situation, the tool changer was broken off the saddle when it ran into the Chuck spinning at 3000 RPM.

I have machines which cost more than 1 million € and none has a "hard stop" for that purpose - i never in my whole work life saw any machine having this - because tools have different length and this would only work with one specific tool length. Not to mention boring bars and stuff.

You're not gonna have any tools that are gonna go "deeper" than that, since your tool holder would be hitting the chuck. Obviously that doesn't work on different styles of machines, but for this one, it does.

Which is what OP is talking about - having an OD tool in the tool changer and the machine driving the tool changer into the spinning chuck, destroying the tool changer vs just destroying a tool.

You need to sort out your speeds, feeds and tip sextion for the material being cut, plus tip radius. Also incorporate constant cutting speed usually a G96, plus coolant would be handy, but I guess if you're filming thats a bit tricky.

One other thing concerning that tool changer when it changes tools it rises up just a little bit so that he can spin and then locks back down before it starts turning the part you wanna watch to make sure shavings don’t get in that area it doesn’t look like they’ll get there, but they do. We used my Lathe with the same tool changer and about every 20,000 parts machining aluminum I had to change out the tool changer due to wear. It would get to the point where it would flex under heavy cuts, and wouldn’t hold tolerance

Most interesting vid, thank you. I'm not familiar with this control. On the Fanuc control to set the X offset I would manually take a chip, measure the diameter, go the the offset page enter the diameter you just cut (without moving the tool in X) hit measure button and that is your offset. The 1200 rpm seems way too slow to me when facing to center. Seems like a surprising decent machine considering the unbelievably low price. Again, I enjoy your vids very much and appreciate the effort you put into them.

I would have bought a used (but not used up) Japanese lathe with a turret and Fanuc control. They are out there, but you have to keep an eye out and be ready to jump when they come available.

Well, a few years ago I bought a second chuck for my lathe, a pull tube hydraulically actuated collet chuck for 173e collets, about 42mm max. The chuck was 8 grand and the 40 collets were about another 4 grand.
It was a Japanese machine tool, and damn it, it broke down very quickly.

Theres gotta be a offset to set tool to the center line of chuck. Also the spindle should be running at 2500 to 3000rpm like others said. Id image for a good finish passcut 15 to 20 ipm Very cool you bought this and showed it. Love all your machine retro fits. People really like seeing that kinda stuff . Merry Christmas

Like most of the machines of this caliber it sounds a little, pick your term, hollow or loose or flexible. Might be a pain chasing numbers and finishes but will do fine for certain work.

Yeh youre feeding way too fast for your rpm. I would put a clock indicator on the machine and move say 1mm and see what it actually moves to ensure its dialed in properly. There will be parameters for altering it. Great little machine tho for the cost

That's a great deal, if it sounds like for some reason your machine is reading diameter instead of radius, or vice versa..... If something was drastically off, it would have crashed right into the part, but being that it basically took about half of whatever you had programmed, I think you're cam software is outputting diameter, and your machine is reading it as depth of cut on the radius. That would be my guess.

I know from my experience with a Hitachi CNC lathe that offsets are wear offsets which you enter small amounts of offset cut the part a zero offset and then move the offset in or out as needed to bring in your dimension.

Other controls have Geometry offsets as well as Wear. Geometry offsets are an extra cost option on Fanuc controls - you can use the machine without them, but it is faster and more convenient to pay for the extra function.

It's like the Chinese manual lathe that I've got. The quality and finish on the parts that don't matter is truly dire, but the Metal only experiences how rigidly it's being worked, and how accurately the tools move. Everything else is fluff and doesn't matter if all you want to do is make parts.

Oh the joy of scraping cosmoline then scrubbing it off with kerosene. Do this before you put good coolant in there. If you wanted to put it into OUR shop, the guys would only use it if it had a FANUC control. IMHO. I enjoyed the video.

first thing i do is measurement tests. Using gauges and calibrated tools; i always want to know my “machine” tolerances. I don’t care if a machine is rough as long as I know how rough. Each of my tools has a purpose and a tolerance. Most Chinese stuff is a reasonable deal as long as you know the downside. They usually tell you that you’re buying a Ferrari but let’s be honest as long as it is a Vette I am ok with it. This is why Lincoln and Miller are having such a rough time lately. We all know that shits made in China and assembled or shipped here. If there is a Chinese equivalent that’s half price with 90% of the features then we are winning.

Does it have a conversational portion of the controller? I know it’s a GSK but sometimes they do have models that have a nice conversational or I used it to figure out how to do a tool where offsets and tool calibration.

That's still steep for what I'd be using a machine for, even if it's quite affordable compared to it's higher end competitors. If I ever get machines they'll be antique manual ones in all likelihood, although you have shown that old CNC stuff can be had for cheap and brought back into service, so there's that too...
