I went to college at the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana. In 1986 my roommate, an electrical engineering graduate student invited our friend Doug (also an Electrical engineering student) and myself to his laboratory to see the three meter Rail Gun his Professor and he made using President Reagan Star Wars Federal grant money. His professor was a tenured Chinese man. Having disciplined, organized, industrious and smart Chinese people in our universities is not a new thing. If we want better outcomes we need to start electing Americans rather than sock puppets of the Narcotics Trafficking Brothel operators.

Actually China recognizes people born in China as Chinese nationals even if they acquire US citizenship. So eliminating dual citizenship is not useful in that regard. Basically the US Labs should be very very careful when hiring anybody born in China. The problem is that the US universities are filled to the brink with them. This means that anything cutting edge developed in the US academia will become very well known very quickly in China. This is how China catches up so quickly with US advances. They have way too many agents here in the US. This is a tough problem to crack. I do not think being very aggressive in this regard is the best solution.

There's another issue as bad as that one. In the US, the brightest STEM graduates often go to work for financial institutions, or with something like Crypto, because that's where the money's at; in China the brightest STEM graduates go instead work at research labs or companies that develop new things, advancing the country's technological prowess. This is how BYD, by itself, can have an R&D department larger than every US-based carmaker added together. Or how DJI got so good at innovating that it killed most drone and drone component companies outside China.

I understand that there may be an increased risk for espionage with foreign scientists. However, as a scientist myself, I would like to underscore that the US has been so far a powerhouse in science mostly because we have recruited the best scientists from around the world. It happens that some outstanding scientists working in the US are from China and/or Russia. If we start discriminating against them, they will leave, and it will be a loss for the US scientific community.

Americans are horrible in STEM. We’re Chinese Americans. We went to Duke and Johns Hopkins to pick up the awards for our gifted child. At the grand ceremonies at Duke and Johns Hopkins, there were about 2000 gifted kids (age 11 or younger with a .01 percentile in SAT and ACT exams), 50% of those kids had Chinese heritage, 30% of Indian heritage, and the wht Caucasian and rest with the rest 20%. Chinese kids in China are much better than the Chinese American kids in STEM. These wht politicians need to stop bashing Chinese, focus on American education system. Oh bummer’s common core did a lot of damage to America kids..

Actually China recognizes people born in China as Chinese nationals even if they acquire US citizenship. So eliminating dual citizenship is not useful in that regard. Basically the US Labs should be very very careful when hiring anybody born in China. The problem is that the US universities are filled to the brink with them. This means that anything cutting edge developed in the US academia will become very well known very quickly in China. This is how China catches up so quickly with US advances. They have way too many agents here in the US. This is a tough problem to crack. I do not think being very aggressive in this regard is the best solution.

There's another issue as bad as that one. In the US, the brightest STEM graduates often go to work for financial institutions, or with something like Crypto, because that's where the money's at; in China the brightest STEM graduates go instead work at research labs or companies that develop new things, advancing the country's technological prowess. This is how BYD, by itself, can have an R&D department larger than every US-based carmaker added together. Or how DJI got so good at innovating that it killed most drone and drone component companies outside China.

I understand that there may be an increased risk for espionage with foreign scientists. However, as a scientist myself, I would like to underscore that the US has been so far a powerhouse in science mostly because we have recruited the best scientists from around the world. It happens that some outstanding scientists working in the US are from China and/or Russia. If we start discriminating against them, they will leave, and it will be a loss for the US scientific community.

Americans are horrible in STEM. We’re Chinese Americans. We went to Duke and Johns Hopkins to pick up the awards for our gifted child. At the grand ceremonies at Duke and Johns Hopkins, there were about 2000 gifted kids (age 11 or younger with a .01 percentile in SAT and ACT exams), 50% of those kids had Chinese heritage, 30% of Indian heritage, and the wht Caucasian and rest with the rest 20%. Chinese kids in China are much better than the Chinese American kids in STEM. These wht politicians need to stop bashing Chinese, focus on American education system. Oh bummer’s common core did a lot of damage to America kids..
