What is it really like travelling on China’s high-speed rail network?
In this video, I take you on a full journey across China using one of the most advanced train systems in the world. From stepping inside modern Chinese train stations to experiencing second class, first class, and business class, we’re going to see what it’s actually like to travel across China at high speed.

I’ll show you around the train, compare the different classes, and give you a real look at the comfort, technology, and value for money that China’s rail network offers.
We’ll also visit two different high-speed rail stations, each showcasing just how futuristic and efficient China’s infrastructure has become.
And the best part… our final destination is a mystery
Could it be one of China’s mega cities?

But this is just the beginning…
China is already developing next-generation trains that could travel faster than airplanes, pushing speeds beyond today’s high-speed rail and moving towards the future of transportation. After living in China for over a decade, it’s incredible to see just how fast things continue to evolve.

A superpower of construction, of development, of lifting people out of poverty. Eye-opening one after another.

I've never been more angry at my government these last five years. Disgusting behavior from the US. Cheers and peace to you.

Chinese HSR fare is cheaper than ordinary train in UK. Also Chinese metro fare is only 1/10 of London Underground.

It's nice to see your country that put its people first

The reality is that China is truly a peace loving nation that just wants to do better, be better & just do business around the world. China wants the rest of the world to be at peace, do well so China can trade with everyone & make more money. What would be the problem with that? If you bomb everyone, who would you make money & trade with? US was a great country, it just needs to get into a right frx of mind: Be kinder, be more peaceful, that is the main basic humanity that US needs to adjust its mindset. Stop destroying the world just to stay on top. There is such a thing as common prosperity. I truly believe China wants the entire world to prosper, China will gain more by having the world prosper. It's also lonely to be the only super power if every other country collapsed.

@edp2506
couple of years ago, was actually listening to I believe a former US ambassador to Philippines. He basically said why not just have China do whatever in terms of the conflict there in SE Asia/Philippines/Vietnam etc. He said that in history China hasn'r really imposed its power. Now i don't know what communist life would be like under them, but the only other caveat is that they seem to be business savvy, though most of Philippines big businesses are owned by Chinese and they have taken advantaged of Filipinos with low pay, no benefits or vacation. This is the only caveat. Maybe they cann also fix that. The ShoeMarts of the country, etc who employ people on 3-6months contracts so they don't pay any benefits.

I love China ! It is so advanced! in technology, convenience,safety and clean.

Jason is pretty much the only person on the internet who can show off his Chinese green card in public without becoming unbearably annoying.

@linustw
Who would have thought in 2026, a westerner is proudly showing his China Green Card and not the USA green card????

@steveangelovski6013
In 2018 the high speed train from Beijing to Shenyang took around 4.5 hours. The same trip this week took me only 2.5 hours with the newer train models. I have also taken the same route with the old green sleepers and that took around 11 hours.

@GoatlyMan
No joke, the quality of China’s trains are a million times better than airplanes in Australia!! China’s transportation system is the best while Australian transportation is the worst. If there’s one thing China doesn’t know, it’s how to stop outperforming the entire west! I have my utmost respect for China

@GeorgeHooi-t1r
China is simply trying to keep on doing the best for the people - not trying to outperform anyone else outside China. If anything, China is trying to outperform China and that's like an athlete trying to do their best times and then, going above that.

@CKeng-p3b
Current proposed Sydney to Newcastle not-quite-highspeed train estimated to cost AUD$90 Billion! China can do this for them for $30 Billion and in half the time - but Australia doesn't trust China; so this option is ruled out.

@Ggg1383
Come and see the trains in Western Europe, the trains are similar (but no 3-2 configuration in the high-speed trains but 2 decker in France), we have nothing to envy the Chinese in terms of rolling stock.

@denny-f4s
I'm surprised you did not use the VIP lounge, which is provided exclusively for business class passengers.

@CompStellar_

@yasufuddin4879
I wish I will go to China one day. That's my dream. China is way a head of science and technology from USA and UK. Western countries and USA are wasting money on wars.

@c.lb3o
The train is so long, you'd run a half marathon to reach your carriage!

@bauernkind8595
We drove last week from Shenzhen to Hongkong and from Gouhangzuh back to Shenzhen with the highspeed train (2nd claas). It was amazing! Cheap: 62 RMB (witch is ~8 €).
And: Eaven at 310 km/h you can balance a coin at the slim side on the window sill and it will not flipp over!!! That is engeniering master class!!!
Nice greetings from germany to China.

@BukuiZhao
The first train you boarded was a CRH380D. Those trains used to go all the way up to 350km/h but they were since then speed limited to 310km/h. The second was a CR400BF-S which can go up to 350km/h. You will notice the train model numbers have a speed higher than their actual operating speed because the train’s design speed allows it to run that fast but it is never done so for a variety of reasons, mostly economical. In just a few years we will also have the CR450AF and CR450BF which will run at 400km/h in normal operations.

@magicsmurfy
One the reasons why I got my driver license back in the 1980s was because of British Rail. It was so fed up for them being late all the time while I had to do connecting trains, I told myself - no more bloody trains. Now I regular use the Shanghai to Beijing trains instead of flights.

@asl6304
Meanwhile, news for several days in the US has been on both the multiple hours long waits to go on a plane trip even for domestic travel with waiting lines stretching into parking structures and also, on how TSA agents haven't been paid for around 3 weeks and are doing coordinated "sick"-outs (call outs) if not just quitting to find stable work elsewhere

@GoatlyMan
I know, it’s crazy. Australia’s so messed up. Sydney and Newcastle are only two hours away from each other

@Rxx2008
Actually, the "stand-up class" doesn't mean you'll have to stand up throughout the trip, but you don't have a fixed seats. You can sit in any seat in the second class as long as the seat is not occupied, which will be indicated by a green/yellow/red light on each seat markers in the newest Fuxing trains.

@Chigezeh
China is already like 50 years ahead of the rest of the world. Love from Africa

@Ggg1383
Come to France, we've had similar high-speed trains (but double-decker) for almost 50 years…

@DDDarkz
Man, this vid just came in perfect timing! About to head to China and take their speed train in a week from Beijing to Shanghai.

@carldicasoli533
I will be going to Beijing later this year, as I work for a Chinese pharma company remotely from the US based there. Maybe if I have time I will try to take high-speed train! Seems even more technologically advanced then the Shinkansen in Japan, or anything in Europe.

@red_BBQ
Congrats. You finally show a full house station. Yes, the numerous showups of passengers deserve a big station. This is a video of someone doing push-ups.

@OvieEkokota
Haha, you’re funny as hell. But you playing around and not having to worry about a thing is an index and indication of the effectiveness of the Chinese governance of the Chinese people. Something most other countries desire but sadly could only dream of.
Cheers, mate. You as much as everyone of us deserves it

@bellahao-vr6lv
You reminded me of a question. Western media often claims that China has no human rights, but China's understanding of human rights is that the masses should not interfere too much with the government; instead, the government should focus on improving the living standards of the people and addressing their needs. For example, Western media often creates topics about Tibet and xinjiang, but the real fact is that Tibet was previously a theocratic society, where others were slaves to the theocrat. What our government is doing is not wrong; should we allow ordinary people to be slaves? The Western media won't mention these things. The issues in xinjiang are different from those in Tibet, but the operational methods of Western media are basically the same.

@clm1698
Wow, the train ride for business class only cost around US $70 that’s so cheap.

@pearlleong2450
Jason you are such a down-to-earth person. Full of confidence and so happy living in China. You have such a great sense of humour that brightens up one's life.
When I watch your videos, I feel as if I am just following behind you where ever you go just marvelling at the everything you show. I am extremely fascinated at the high-speed trains, architecture of the train stations, sceneries, etc. China has advanced in everything. It looks like being in 2050/2100 and beyond. I am so glad that I live to see this by watching your videos. You have done a fabulous job to tell us what China is like at the present time.

@Timi_adesanya
I’m pretty sure business class—or most trains, really—have cabin cameras… I’d love to see the reaction of whoever ends up watching that footage—especially seeing you go full beast mode on that workout

@bliss6495
Looks like long-distance train, looking at how trays in second class are full of snacks and everything.

@xhz8672
Hi, Jason: I have been watching your Videos for a while. I left Shanghai a long time ago and have been living in the US since. I am so glad that you have shown China to the world! Within 30s, China has developed so advanced, High Tech is better than the US. You are so passionate about taking each video of China, and also very humorous. I love your videos so much! Thank you for loving China and your hard work! I am so proud of being a Chinese naturally even I am an American now.

@ltangst
Greener transportation is also a reason for traveling by train compared to flights. Good take, thanks for sharing!

@senorliamy17
This train station must be serving several nearby county-tier cities for it to be that massive and busy. My mum's side of the family lives in Cixi, a county-level city under Ningbo in Zhejiang, and the closest high-speed train station is Yuyao North Station, in Yuyao which is another nearby county level city under Ningbo. Many trains stop at this station, it is massive and it can get crowded at times.

@lm-pw9ul
I live in the second biggest city in a Western country and we still don't have any train station that modern and big nor high-speed/bullet/Maglev train

@Aldraz
Working out on the train is a crazy cool concept that should be put into reality.. maybe in couple of years, China will have trains that look like hotels where you have gym sections.. that would be really cool lol.

@Gravastar_universe
I always take the crammed one i didn't know the spacious one existed

@svmtb
It looks like you went all the way to transfer and returned to the same platform. But that's ok, at least you got to show us the Guiyang North Station.

@TAL142
It is pretty chaotic in this train stations. But they have affordable fares for everyone. If you can afford it, business class is definitely worth it and less chaotic.

8:13 we call it a double unit or multiple units. It depends on how many trains are connected to each other.
14:45 This train is the CRH380D high-speed train which has a designed operational top speed of up to 380 km/h and has achieved speeds up to 420 km/h during testing. But the maximum service speed is just about 350 km/h.

@ruiyuandong1398
34:45 500 RMB Business Class ticket, this is the SINGLE MOST expensive ticket of the entire train. Just checked on 12306 App, from xing Yi to Gui Yang the 2nd class seat is priced at RMB 160 to 180, the 1st class seat around RMB 290.

@blackstorm6416
i took the train from newcastle to machester recently. UK rail is at least 50yrs behind China. Its a horrendous experience using UK rail.

@Helghast73
The train attendant knew not to ask for your ticket/ID.. everyone knows the Hanbaowang when they see him.

@eateateatxaindai
Chinese high-speed trains offer many thoughtful, passenger-friendly services. For example, on the official railway app, there’s a section where you can ask for help discreetly. If someone nearby is being noisy or rude, you can send your exact seat location to the staff through your phone, and they will come over to remind that person politely. So if you feel uncomfortable speaking up directly or worry about conflict, this is a safe and easy way to handle it.
Also, the food sold directly on the train can be a bit pricey for ordinary Chinese passengers. That’s why you can actually order takeout food to be delivered to your seat at some high-speed railway stations. I haven’t tried ordering food on a train myself yet, and I still have a lot to learn about all these convenient bullet train services.

@GeorgeHooi-t1r
Good to see that together with their "NO SMOKING" sign, they also have an overhead smoke detector on the ceiling - just like in an airplane.

@ando1135
i'll be taking a few high speed trains in chongqing. although just on second class....didnt want to splurge for the business class (plus the times i wanted were sold out anyways haahah)

@lancewood1410
In the west comparatively to Guizhou's level would most likely be a 'village' . Guiyang's population alone is already 6million+ and Guizhou's almost 40 million population is bigger than a LOT of western countries hahaha.

@TheAacharge
They didn't expect to have a passenger as tall as you.
They really should increase the seat pitch in Business Class a little, since there's plenty of free space.

@CarolineBurnett-bw5kd
I've been on high speed trains in China. I've been travelling this incredible planet for many years. China was fantastic. Australia (my home) needs to change it's politics and join the Belt and Road.

@Austinredstoner
The Closest to the High-Speed Rails that are in China, that you can do in the United States is Acela but even Acela is nowhere near close to the High-Speed Rails that are in China.

@GeraldMiller-mp8fc
I taught English in China from 2005 until 2017. I really miss the high speed trains. Especially in the USA with the backward transportation options.

@weiliscmtuh1779
It is not true when you say we don’t have biz class in Europe but we do in Italy.

@hicsunt5043
Fantastic...and yeah Chinese trains are even more advanced than in France!

@Siheng-b5v
It is not the technology that stops the uk to build one like this, it's just too expensive to build one concerning the labour price in the uk. And even if they build something like this, it would not be profitable.

@meatball001
it funny that here in the philippines. some old officials in our goverment still thinks China still living in old school and poverty. they clearly not watch the news or travel to see how developed China really is.

@Lepine-ky
In Canada, we've been talking about such high speed rail from Windsor Ont, to Quebec City Quebec more than 35 plus years, after survey & consultation etc...not an inch in sight even some scale back compromised from Toronto to Montreal. Too much political gimmicks than decisively push forward after $ multi-millions $ wasted.

@phenomenonautumn9367
This is what happens when superpowers spend trillions of dollars on infrastructure and science and education, and not “fixing” and policing world affairs. While the USA continues to become even more despised and dig itself further into the ground, China is becoming more admired and continues to rise.

@guanzkuy8
One more important point to mention is that China's high-speed trains are very punctual. A delay in one train can affect other trains in the network, so the high-speed trains in China can almost arrive on time to the minute, or even the second. Additionally, ordinary people do not need to take business class, as the price is about three times that of second class. In fact, second class is quite comfortable. It is hard for foreigners, especially those from Western countries, to imagine riding a high-speed train that departs and arrives on time, traveling at a speed of 300 to 350 kilometers per hour. In just an hour and a half, you can cover 500 kilometers, with second class tickets costing only $25, first class $50, and business class $75.

@hailongxu8909
In fact, if you stretch the timeline a bit, you can clearly see that the Chinese government has done a lot for its people and is a truly hardworking government. Many initiatives do not consider costs, and many of these projects are not felt significantly by the majority of ordinary citizens. For example, the "vegetable basket" project ensures that everyone in China has stable access to fresh vegetables and meat; there’s also the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the West-to-East Gas Transmission, the extensive highway network, power grid, and internet signal that spans the entire country. The government actually started working on all of this a long time ago.

This guy must be quite impressive to obtain a Chinese green card. I heard that there were only 500 green cards available in the first batch, while the number of foreigners living in China certainly exceeds ten million. Only a few hundred people qualify for the green card, making it quite difficult to obtain. You either have to make outstanding contributions to China or be a celebrity. A news report mentioned an American who received a green card without going through the review process because he donated an album documenting the atrocities committed by the Japanese army during their occupation of China. That album directly proved many of the real crimes of the Japanese military, and the Chinese government issued a green card to that American donor. It seems that he even appeared on the Spring Festival Gala, and according to the news, he has been living in China.

@d_baumberger
People are being told it’s the Americans fault for the downfall ….its needs to be told that trouble is grown at home

@edp2506
omg, coming from NYC, USA., US infra/trains, subway suck!! spending on wars instead of trains/infra like this

@mogotsi_
While Colonial nations were BRAGGING about being the best, Asia has been WORKING HARD being the best. The Chinese were mocked so brutally, and have shown the world how great nations can become again once they have separated from the West.

When I Did The High Speed Train Trip From Kunming to Guilin ( 1000 KM ) I Was Shocked by The Amount of Tunnels ( Some of Them Very Large ) They Had to Build : You Barely Can See The Landscape and I Stopped Counting The Number of Tunnels There After 117 !!!

@maxterminatorx
so Chinese Socialism is when you have nice stuff with affordable prices.

@Raydee27
I'm gonna flee France, China is ORDER, DISCIPLINE and SECURITY. No stabbing in the train, no agression in the street, no mass immigration. Nice popping moves BTW

@tolor3254
Congratulations on getting your green card,jealous you are in a country that seems to work for its citizens,unlike the Uk Westminster government who work for corporate and has ruined the UK for years we are like a 3rd world country

@alexhu7939
Your incessant showing off of the Green Card is unbearably disgusting. I condemn you with all the forces of my jealousy!

@catwhisperer1524
even the other classes have more space than British trains... looks splendid in fact!!!

@thomasheaney4235
It is quite humbling for me, an American, to see incredible train service in China. Sadly America is lagging far behind China, Japan, Korea, Europe, South America and Australia in rail transportation infrastructure. If we ever muster the will build such a system, it would be a decades long endeavor. Driving or flying are inferior ways of covering vast distances. …We are living in interesting times.

@Gekoles
I was in a similar train and the same seat 1F. We was traveling from Shanghai to the Anhui province, to visit some friends of my fiancé.
Was they not a business launch before, you can get free coffee, tea and snacks? They was a „stuardes“ who has bring us to the train, so we don’t was in the „normal“ line.
We coming back in a few month, and my goal in the next few years to move for ever to China. I love this country.
Maybe we see us in the future Jason.

@kumstercheong
Dude, you are making a big deal over the Chinese PR. I have it for over 5 years and trust me, no local cares that we are holding on to one. And yes, the conductor can see that the seat that you are in is purchased and that's why he didn't ask to check your ticket. If you were sitting on an unpurchased seat, he would definately have asked for your PR card or ticket.

@trishxie5876
I don't understand why you call your Chinese id a green card. It's like people including yourself feel proud of US identity so equate this card with green card (although I know you don't.). It's 5 star card! Do be proud of Chinese 5 star.

@AlveesMcNamaraTaur
Must be nice to be so delusional. 500RMB is £55. The average net salary in China is $14500. The average net salary in the UK is $47300… so 500rmb (£55) for them is like 1630rmb (£180) for us! For a 1.5h train journey!

@volvo336
This was the same in England when the Chinese still lived in caves. You are shocked to see that civilization has finally arrived in China.

@吳家雯-d6x

I heard that Chinese really like smoking even in restricted zone. Plus spitting on the ground.

@JoseluisLopez-bx7dd
Is it necessary to be a clown or a comedian, dancing, excercising, talking stupid things, to show us a train travel.? come on!. Behave show some respect to Chinese people and your viewers.

also south korea is a colony, both korea and japan are colony of US, both countries economy are collapsing and they beg Chinese tourist to save their economy

@BukuiZhao
Get your facts straight, first of all. In China, we don’t actually care if our public services are profitable, what we actually care about is the quality of the services and their ease of use, not whether or not it will benefit mega corporations like in Western countries. Even if those services are at a loss, we can still afford to sustain them because we actually use our tax money for them, instead of literally funding ge….de (partially censored to avoid filters), cough cough the US. You are just making some baseless accusations of government funding to justify that, but no it won’t.

@vuikeongchang9945
I mean,you are not supposed to do boxing show in private inside our beloved new trains while holding the most prestigious green card given not to vast amount of oversea Chinese living in malaysia.there is no need to exaggerate how wonderful you are being a foreigner so young enough to be able to get the prerogative that we all dream dyingly to get.

@logueg
This is why the west tries to demonise China. Because if people see how a nation can invest in its people instead of just its investor class and multinational corporations, they would revolt.
