What massive debts for the BRI? Those debt traps some countries are in are courtesy of World Bank, IMF and the western banks and asset managers. The BRI loans are for infrastructures and they get assets for those money. In some cases, like Sri Lanka, the BRI loans were used to take out the western vulture loans. And in cases where the countries cannot repay the loans, China actually forgave some loans and restructure the loans. Importantly, BRI countries are willing stakeholders. Those countries bombed by the US are unwilling victims.

We should also learn to applaud those who choose the big American style, even if we have decided not to live so large ourselves. Anywho, I went back to my retrofitted Winnebago with solar panel and wind turbine and cranked up the old black and white Sony tv with rabbit ears to see if I could catch a rerun of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous". Soon after, I faded into the land of nod and had a very vivid dream where I met with our Elon in D.C. and he offered to equip my outhouse with his Tesla rockets at a 25 percent shoppers' discount and shoot me into outer space!

Yeah and the world has been pretty happy with it in the long run. I don’t see these huge bond dumps it’s clear why that is no one wants to go negative or zero summed. US bonds are still the best returns based investment and the shock it would bring to everyone’s economy immediately there’s no way to backstop it. Then there’s the US stock market which every country is over leveraged in it some are smarter than others but everyone is in that pot. I think the decoupling is going to take probably 15-40 years if countries want to try that but it’s a difficult prospective without taking massive hits to central bank/government programs worldwide

Hong Kong is the financial center in this new system, and has a lot of advantages that we have shared before. And there, insurance companies in Hong Kong are stepping in to write cargo insurance for ships in the Persian Gulf. A group of five Hong Kong insurers are underwriting coverage for 10 Mainland China ships transiting war zones there. Hong Kong has the capacity to take on that risk, and it’s important for Hong Kong to do so, otherwise Chinese ships have no choice but to go through very high-priced companies in London, or forego insurance coverage completely.
In the opening days of the war, the biggest shipping insurance companies in Europe and North America pulled coverage on ships going into or out of the Persian Gulf. Insurance coverage “automatically terminates” if a ship enters the Gulf. Those insurance collectives cover 90% of the world’s shipping fleets.
They still offer “standard protection”, but that goes away inside war zones. So ships who do hope to make that run are seeing huge spikes in insurance premiums.
China is in a unique spot, though. Iran is allowing Chinese ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. And Hong Kong is stepping up to write insurance on Chinese ships at a far lower cost than what is on offer from insurance brokers in London.

In a major economic shift, Hong Kong is supplanting the United States and Europe as the preferred "safe haven" for capital flight outbound the Middle East.
Even though government bonds from the US and UK yield nearly three times lending rates in Hong Kong and China, risk-averse investors are shifting funds to HK.
Hong Kong is the financial center for emerging Global Majority system, and Southeast Asia enjoys far stronger economic growth.
China also has tight relationships with Iran, who has granted Chinese ships passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

This is not what is supposed to happen during a time of global unrest. When supply chains across the world seize up, when global economies are on the verge of recession, or even depression—investors across the world move capital to “safe havens”. They buy bonds in safe havens, like the United States, or move money to American banks.
What is happening, this time, is the opposite. US government bonds are in liquidation by global investors. March 2026 was the worst month for Treasury investors since 2022.

The American debt market already faces major headwinds, with $10 trillion that needs to be rolled over this year, at far higher borrowing costs than when originally issued. Now there is a war on, the Department of War is asking for another $200 billion and is burning through billions of dollars of weapons stockpiles every week, and so investors are looking somewhere else.
Typically that “somewhere else” might be the United Kingdom. They are not at war in Iran, and one might think London would be an alternative safe haven for those who don’t want to send money to New York. But that isn’t happening either.
Bond yields there are blowing out, too: 10-year government yields in the UK are higher today than any time since the Great Financial Crisis.
These are the 10-year government bond yields from leading world economies. Yields on the so-called “safe-haven” investments of US and UK government debt are rising. If demand were high, and foreign capital were moving in, those yields would be coming down, not heading the other way:
China, in comparison, is at 1.82%, and falling. Put another way, the Chinese government can borrow money for 10 years, and their interest payments on that debt is around one-third what it costs the American government. Investors are preferring the safety of Chinese bonds, at lower yields, than debt from North America and Europe.
In that context, the capital outflows from the Persian Gulf are accelerating, yet are not going to higher-yielding investments on offer by the United States or Europe. It’s going to Hong Kong. Wall Street and European asset management firms are expanding in Hong Kong, to take on new clients selling off assets in the Middle East, and bringing it here, to China. For investors in Dubai in particular, Hong Kong is a way to diversify their risk. China and other regional economies have stronger economic growth, and even sovereign funds—those are government investment pools—were making the shift to Hong Kong.

I can confirm. American working in China for over a decade. Everyone in my Chinese network puts in considerable effort in improving their circumstances. They contribute to the global economy through China because that's where they were born.
The thing is, nobody really cares about politics. They are educated and have better things to do, like grind, spend money, travel, and invest. They largely only have good things to say about America which in Chinese translates to "The Beautiful Country".

well China is a unified society it’s just completely different from western world. People want stability over freedom is how we would describe it. I think that’s a very reductive view point but I also don’t think America is a free society either. It is just different forms of control overall one is more obvious in its implementations. Every society has its limitations we just tend to see that liberal frxworks are better it’s why we ignore collective stability over individual freedoms. We just don’t have a good balance structure it’s why you can see people cheer on people losing food benefits or loss of medical care. I would say China is losing more than it’s winning in the long run. It’ll give them more influence that is true but it’s going to restrict them to sourcing oil from Russia alone same goes with helium. They are going to pay a lot more for the products from the south because this will likely continue to the strait of Malacca. The US can blockade that area pretty easily same as is being done in the Caribbean Sea. It’s likely that this is being considered to backstop and put more pressure on the Chinese to accept US demands. It all comes down to what trade agreements seem the most amendable to the party but it is a card the US has to play

What massive debts for the BRI? Those debt traps some countries are in are courtesy of World Bank, IMF and the western banks and asset managers. The BRI loans are for infrastructures and they get assets for those money. In some cases, like Sri Lanka, the BRI loans were used to take out the western vulture loans. And in cases where the countries cannot repay the loans, China actually forgave some loans and restructure the loans. Importantly, BRI countries are willing stakeholders. Those countries bombed by the US are unwilling victims.

US bonds are still the best returns based investment and the shock it would bring to everyone’s economy immediately there’s no way to backstop it. Then there’s the US stock market which every country is over leveraged in it some are smarter than others but everyone is in that pot. I think the decoupling is going to take probably 15-40 years if countries want to try that but it’s a difficult prospective without taking massive hits to central bank/government programs worldwide

Hong Kong is the financial center in this new system, and has a lot of advantages that we have shared before. And there, insurance companies in Hong Kong are stepping in to write cargo insurance for ships in the Persian Gulf. A group of five Hong Kong insurers are underwriting coverage for 10 Mainland China ships transiting war zones there. Hong Kong has the capacity to take on that risk, and it’s important for Hong Kong to do so, otherwise Chinese ships have no choice but to go through very high-priced companies in London, or forego insurance coverage completely.
In the opening days of the war, the biggest shipping insurance companies in Europe and North America pulled coverage on ships going into or out of the Persian Gulf. Insurance coverage “automatically terminates” if a ship enters the Gulf. Those insurance collectives cover 90% of the world’s shipping fleets.
They still offer “standard protection”, but that goes away inside war zones. So ships who do hope to make that run are seeing huge spikes in insurance premiums.
China is in a unique spot, though. Iran is allowing Chinese ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. And Hong Kong is stepping up to write insurance on Chinese ships at a far lower cost than what is on offer from insurance brokers in London.

This is not what is supposed to happen during a time of global unrest. When supply chains across the world seize up, when global economies are on the verge of recession, or even depression—investors across the world move capital to “safe havens”. They buy bonds in safe havens, like the United States, or move money to American banks.
What is happening, this time, is the opposite. US government bonds are in liquidation by global investors. March 2026 was the worst month for Treasury investors since 2022.

The American debt market already faces major headwinds, with $10 trillion that needs to be rolled over this year, at far higher borrowing costs than when originally issued. Now there is a war on, the Department of War is asking for another $200 billion and is burning through billions of dollars of weapons stockpiles every week, and so investors are looking somewhere else.
Typically that “somewhere else” might be the United Kingdom. They are not at war in Iran, and one might think London would be an alternative safe haven for those who don’t want to send money to New York. But that isn’t happening either.
Bond yields there are blowing out, too: 10-year government yields in the UK are higher today than any time since the Great Financial Crisis.
These are the 10-year government bond yields from leading world economies. Yields on the so-called “safe-haven” investments of US and UK government debt are rising. If demand were high, and foreign capital were moving in, those yields would be coming down, not heading the other way:
China, in comparison, is at 1.82%, and falling. Put another way, the Chinese government can borrow money for 10 years, and their interest payments on that debt is around one-third what it costs the American government. Investors are preferring the safety of Chinese bonds, at lower yields, than debt from North America and Europe.
In that context, the capital outflows from the Persian Gulf are accelerating, yet are not going to higher-yielding investments on offer by the United States or Europe. It’s going to Hong Kong. Wall Street and European asset management firms are expanding in Hong Kong, to take on new clients selling off assets in the Middle East, and bringing it here, to China. For investors in Dubai in particular, Hong Kong is a way to diversify their risk. China and other regional economies have stronger economic growth, and even sovereign funds—those are government investment pools—were making the shift to Hong Kong.

I can confirm. American working in China for over a decade. Everyone in my Chinese network puts in considerable effort in improving their circumstances. They contribute to the global economy through China because that's where they were born.
The thing is, nobody really cares about politics. They are educated and have better things to do, like grind, spend money, travel, and invest. They largely only have good things to say about America which in Chinese translates to "The Beautiful Country".
America will no doubt recover, and I'll be there to witness it. But personally, I have felt far more safe (less crime and abuse by authorities) and free* here. Even before the orange "regime change" in American. Now, it's just substantiated.

well China is a unified society it’s just completely different from western world. People want stability over freedom is how we would describe it. I think that’s a very reductive view point but I also don’t think America is a free society either. It is just different forms of control overall one is more obvious in its implementations. Every society has its limitations we just tend to see that liberal frxworks are better it’s why we ignore collective stability over individual freedoms. We just don’t have a good balance structure it’s why you can see people cheer on people losing food benefits or loss of medical care. We tend to decide who is deserving far more than we like to admit. The truth is if we were so wed to idea that anyone can get rich everyone would be ok. We love to romanticize ambition as the greatest quantity over everything else

I would say China is losing more than it’s winning in the long run. It’ll give them more influence that is true but it’s going to restrict them to sourcing oil from Russia alone same goes with helium. They are going to pay a lot more for the products from the south because this will likely continue to the strait of Malacca. The US can blockade that area pretty easily same as is being done in the Caribbean Sea. It’s likely that this is being considered to backstop and put more pressure on the Chinese to accept US demands. It all comes down to what trade agreements seem the most amendable to the party but it is a card the US has to play
