Can't believe how many of these I am seeing around on 25, 75 and now 26 plates. In my area Chinese models are not just replacing Fords, Nissans, Kias etc. on driveways but also more premium brands like VW and Honda. Even Audi, BMW etc. don't seem to be immune. A guy who lives a few doors from me just replaced his Audi A4 with a Jaecoo 7, unthinkable even a couple of years ago.

I've just bought a Jaecoo J5 BEV here in Australia. Very impressive I can tell you. The pricing is unbelievable - $37K (around GBP20K drive away) It's not perfect, but a great deal of car for the money. The infotainment system is first rate, much better than I thought it would be. The controls are very much like Tesla was with the drive shift on the right stalk. Seats are comfortable. Build quality seems excellent. Just a very capable vehicle at a knockout price.

Even as a Chinese person, I can't keep track of just how many brands Chery Automobile actually has. Some of their models share the same design but have different names, while others share the same name but are entirely different models...

The facts, whether you like them or not. Mainstream cars now sold in Europe consist of 70% parts manufactured in China, regardless of which company does the assembly under their own brand.  All the big manufacturers have partnerships with Chinese manufacturers. The Jaecoo and Omoda parent company, Chery,  have been in partnership with Jaguar Land Rover since 2012. Their Jaecoo Chief Designer, Chris Rhoades used to work for Mercedes and the Omoda Chief Designer, Steve Eum, used to work for Ford and Hyundai. Chery's Shanghai HQ and Frankfurt teams crafted the Jaecoo 7 and I am not surprised it is the best seller. The Chinese will now dominate the industry like we observed in previous decades with the South Koreans and Japanese. The cars coming out of China are on another level. Just watch the videos from  the Guangzhou or  Shanghai Auto Shows.

I am surprised. This is a Chery brand. They sell well in China too, although they don't have this name. The British government really should try to and attract Chery, Geely or BYD to manufactured or at least assembled in the in the UK.

I must admit that I was taken aback when I saw it was top in March. I’ve been following the growth of MG in the last few years and have seen the Chinese influx ramp up hugely in the last 18 months but I don’t think many will have thought that could happen. Hopefully they are “sales” and not just “registrations”.

Australia gets also flooded with Chinese cars. MG's were very pooly built at start but now they work!  But Zeeker is the desirable new kid on the block!

I’m not sure about these. Good warranty and well equipped but they are the same price as the established brands. No data available yet on reliability or longevity .

Had my J7 for a year (just had first service which costs around £225 on a plan!).  It hasn’t missed a beat in all that time.  Got a look at the new J8 yesterday - the SHS in luxury trim is a whisker under £45k.  I came out of an Audi A6 (my 3rd of that model’ because it just felt dated and almost a lazy design.  I think Audi should be very worried what JAECOO can offer for £45k - big, quick and all the toys with real visual presence.

I know of few people at work who have these on a lease and they love them.  Most have come European cars and believe the quality of the cars is no worse and in most cases better.  As they are leased they are not concerned about residuals.  Usership rather than ownership with a Chinese car seems to be the future.

I feel rather sad that the Chinese brands have been allowed to import cars into the UK market without any quota limits and at prices that suggest that tariff levels are no deterrent to dumping. You can understand the consumer appeal when finance costs are ridiculously low but this is another blow for European manufacturers who are struggling to meet the ZEV Mandate despite launching some very appealing EV models. What is the long term future for jobs at Nissan Sunderland when many of their workers voted for Brexit and the UK market is more open to Chinese imports than the rest of Europe. If we are to reverse the perilous state of the UK economy should buyers not be thinking a little more about where they buy from whilst there still is a UK or EU manufactured option?

Personally i think they first of all need to get energy prices in the UK down , so uk factories  can compete ..
And with cheaper energy prices , suddenly the UK looks an attractive place to make things ..
As far as tarriffs go then i think the best way is to say to China that you build 3 car facturies in the UK with a minimum of say 30% UK parts ... or we put 100% tarriffs on you ...
Or
Do how the UK did with Japanese cars in the mid 80's and have sales quotas ...
The other way would be that ALL cars on the motorbility / dissabled scheme are UK made .. and any grants for customers are only for UK built cars ..
We really need to do something because if we carry on as we are , within 5 years there will be nothing left ...

Just because they sell a lot doesn't make them a good car. Legacy car manufactures have had zero innovations taking buyers for a ride for decades. A stranger walks in and takes the lot with a reasonable price and a flashy interior. Their advertising is hugely boastful on every facet, but words are cheap. They have been in Australia for some time, along with around 20 other Chinese manufacturers now. Like any new products they need work and time, its as simple as that. Its a whole new ball game and I don't like it when the rules are not fully in yet. Very few parts, not many service centers, lack of support, technicians not full versed, new tech, hiding issues under warranty, blaming customers for damage (True story) increased insurance, government increasing taxes, I'm sorry I need another 10 years to make the switch smoothly, great concept though.

One thing we havnt seen on all these Chinese cars is reliability stats,i see a lot of forums on facebook etc for these cars with electrical issues so an overall feedback would be good.

I hate Range Rovers, or maybe just the people that drive them. But once the Chinese state sponsored giants have distroyed brands like JLR, where will all the exciting new designs come from? If everything they do is copying legacy brands like JLR and Porsche, what happens once they're gone?

These are everywhere where I live, having looked at them at the dealership I couldn't believe the crap build quality. But the fools that buy them it's all about image, I'll stick with Audi

Apart from looking awful the misguided people who have been foolish enough to purchase one will learn the hard way as the depreciation on them in the next few years will be frightening and there has already been a recall on some of them regarding an electrical wiring issue ... they]re rubbish.

Obviously the British haven't got a clue about cars buying that Garbage, as with MG and BYD. And the price of them, if they were only £10k it might not be so bad.
