The International Space Station has once again discovered an air leak, and NASA is concerned that an air leak at the International Space Station could lead to a catastrophic failure. Experts say NASA and the Russian Federal Space Agency are in disagreement over the cause of the leak in the Russian part of the space station and the severity of the problem. Russian scientists believe the facility can still be operated safely.

@Delixa3D
Well in 2022 Russia announced plans to leave the International Space Station after 2024 NASA and other international partners hope to keep the space station running until 2030. Russia's stance was that it was a liability to keep fixing it like an old car and opted to build it's own new space station.

@_ata_3
Maybe they've just found the perfect pretext to quit.

@teckmenglee8060
Russia has been keeping the space station alive; but USA acts like the space station belongs to USA solely. With the Ukraine conflict ongoing, then USA should be able to solve it on their own.

@_ata_3
@teckmenglee8060 You are recognizing it is a political maneuver from Russia then.

@nenadmitrovic3469
@_ata_3no, space station worked way way longer then it was designed to. Russians need space station in different path, to cover and explore north russia and northern sea route. While US was political and banned China, so China just made their own and said everyone is welcome here when needed

@_ata_3
@nenadmitrovic3469 Precisely you are confirming OP's point and confirming why it is a political maneuver from Russia. Instead of openly recognizing that Russia wants out, they are making sure technical things that need fixing (for the benefit of the rest of the countries, not only US) are not fixed.

@nenadmitrovic3469
@_ata_3no. They openly said they will be out. There is plan for whole station to be retired and destoryed. Its not secret, nasa was officialy informed about it years ago and they know all dates. And they know what modules will be reused, where and how. It was officialy been made public for years. Plans from all sides in this project

@araara4746there’s more homeless people in Russia than there is here in the United States not to mention more than half of the Russian population do not have indoor plumbing which is why a lot of Russians have an out house.

@araara4746
@G-Man-half-life
If it is true that there are more homeless in Russia, that is certainly understandable, because Russia is not the #1 country in the world. While the US as a country that claims to be the richest, most advanced, most prosperous, has so many homeless, even beating the homeless in developing countries, isn't that embarrassing?
Oh, btw, do you also want to compare the US debt with Russia's debt?

@araara4746

@G-Man-half-life
First off every single country on this earth is in some kind of financial debt not just the United States even Cuba and North Korea are in some kind of financial debt, Second of all like i said before there’s actually less homeless people here in the United States than there is in Russia a country that has almost no indoor plumbing and who’s infrastructure is literally falling apart, third of all the homeless people here in the United States still have access to food, water, medical care, and homeless shelters the homeless people who live here still live much better lives than the homeless people who live in Russia… Russia is a joke of a country Russia can’t even win the war in Ukraine.

There's a famous story from back during the first joint missions between Russia and the U.S. There was an air scrubber cartridge (I think) that wouldn't start, astronaut immediately jumps to Apollo 13 fears. Cosmonaut takes the cartridge from the America, gives it a couple sharp whacks, a vigorous shake, and it starts working. Their helicopters are the same - there's a very recent story about a MIL product that was missing two of eight bolts. Americans freak out OMG ground it, Russian says "only needs four, there are eight because this happens some times". Sounds like they can just close the problem module, but this is a political problem as much as operational.

Look, just build a wall around it to keep the air in, and send the bill to Mars.

@patrickthebaptist-sharingt428
They should send him down to it then.

Musk and Bezos should fund a new modern space station out of their own pockets!

@OldPapaBear
Why, they're not the Government. They don't owe us anything. If you want to know where the real money is try BlackRock Inc. But do they owe us anything?

@ssir5927
@OldPapaBear All of Elons money comes FROM the government subsidies and contracts... Bezos at least provides some worthwhile goods and services

@miketrissel5494
So, the area is only used when docking?
And when it is not used for docking, they can close the door, and seal off the leaking area?
That's not a problem ... that's a 10-year-old kid leaving the door open when he comes home.

@CharlieSeattle1
Fix ...both suspected reasons for the leak and move on to the next problem.

@Chisobhaneko
Reality of made in CHINA vs made in USA... now forget the ego and ask China for help

@leolima75
Ok, but I think it would better to say it is 'venting atmosphere'.

@Ruthavecflute
Why? Calling it a leak clearly expresses the problem. Long words aren't intrinsically better.

Let’s do not forgot about tape as well…

@glenyssmith8289
Use a liquid or powder to find the leak? Maybe water? Depends how much electronics are around.

@ubermenschen3636

@pumalee1997
Russia should build its own space station or join China's space station. The International Space Station is too old to be maintained.

@hottubking1229
Cigarette smoke is very efficient at closing up small holes. Aircraft, back in the day, had nicotine build up on many rivet joints. I’m sure NASA could create an even more efficient “smoke bomb” that could solve the issue.

@RoderikvanReekum
Just a small leak it is no problem.

@danieltam3923
If we all close our eyes, muffle our ears, speak no sound, then there's no problem.

They just need to launch a Russia Lada into space, I'm sure the parts are interchangeable. Elon did it.

Didn’t USA sanction Russia on all areas since 2022? Why USA need to discuss with Russia about the space station? Just use duct tapes.

@jlvandat69
"Leak in the Russian Section" isn't a surprise. I suppose this may require evacuation of the Ruskies to other areas......maybe they, and the troops in Ukraine could simply return to the Motherland?
