On December 31, 2024, a shocking act of violence took place at the 18th Street subway Station in Manhattan, New York City. A 45-year-old man was waiting on a subway platform when he was suddenly pushed off the tracks by an unknown man. Surveillance video shows the man was looking down at his phone when he was suddenly pushed from behind by a man. Fortunately, the train stopped in time and the victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. The victim suffered head injuries but is in stable condition.

After the incident, police quickly launched a manhunt, and the suspect, Kamal Hawkins, was arrested less than an hour later. Police investigating Hawkins, 23, of Brooklyn, found that the attack may have been random and that the suspect had no relationship to the victim. He has been charged with attempted murder and wounding. Police say the incident was a simple act of violence without any prior words or provocation.

The incident caused panic and concern among the general public. Many riders said they were disturbed by continuing safety problems in the New York City subway system, especially the unprovoked attacks. Although the mayor of New York has said that subway crime is down in 2024, the public's sense of safety has not significantly improved. The quick handling of the incident also shows the importance of surveillance technology, with video helping police quickly target suspects and make arrests.

The incident highlighted the safety hazards in the city's public transportation system and reminded the government and citizens that despite the drop in crime, keeping citizens safe still requires sustained efforts and attention.

I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the black community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature makes them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their child-rearing practices are second to none. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African-Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self-improvement, hard work and a self-reliant nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

The entire subway needs a turnstile system!!!!! How is this so difficult?! I’m not even from New York and it was immediately apparent that the crime is coming from those that skip paying the fare! Figured this out in one weekend. A turnstile system will prevent fare skippers. 2 cops should be placed at each turnstile, preferably 3-4 or a private security firm like Securitas. Just to be clear, when I say turnstile system, I’m talking full-blown floor-to-ceiling rotating turnstile. Not this lapbar nonsense.

How awful, for no reason he just pushes him in front of a train. Sick.
