Boeing’s 747 is one the most recognizable planes to take to the skies with its iconic hump, four engines, extensive landing gear and sheer size. Since its first commercial flight in 1970, Boeing’s 747 jumbo jet has flown more than 3.5 billion passengers. But over the last few decades, airlines have looked for more ways to cut costs and to make airplanes more efficient. Two engine jets can now fly near the same capacity and further than older four engine planes like Boeing’s 747 and the Airbus A380. CNBC visited Boeing's Everett, Washington factory to see the last 747 roll off the production line. It will go to Atlas Air for cargo deliveries.

Five years ago, 346 people were killed in two plane crashes that happened five months apart, in Indonesia and Ethiopia. Both were Boeing 737 Max 8 planes. Then, this past January, Boeing came inches from yet another catastrophe as a door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 plane at 16,000 feet shortly after taking off from Portland, Oregon. Preliminary reports said the door panel that flew off the Max 9 appeared to be missing four key bolts.

Boeing has struggled to get back on track after the fatal 737 Max 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019. The company announced it's in talks to buy back fuselage maker Spirit AeroSystems. A company Boeing spun off in 2005. Both companies have struggled with quality issues in recent years. Spirit AeroSystems, however, also supplies parts to Boeings main rival Airbus and other plane manufacturers making the deal a little complex.

I am definitely a Boeing fan. Since childhood, all airlines that I have flown with had 757 and 737-200 in which I personally have great memories in. As I read through articles about Boeing’s executive decisions, I am reminded of how previous executives chose to upgrade the 737 NG to save costs by developing the MAX. Unfortunately, this decision turned out to be more expensive than creating a clean sheet design. They failed to foresee future developments and focused too much on the present without considering the associated risks. This situation serves as a reminder that complacency is the enemy of progress. I am hopeful that under Ortberg's leadership, he can swiftly transform the company and restore it to its former glory.

Misleading topic. why should customers care about glory of Boeing if their managers and CEO doesn't care about direct customers, safety, workers and pilots. Only thing they care is money, bonuses and profit margin which led to all problems

MCAS was NOT intended to push, or pitch, the nose down - that was just a side effect. The intent was to make the controls feel heavier at extreme pitch attitudes...by trimming the nose down while the pilot is attempting to pitch up.

Well they went from highly skilled and trained unx labor and engineers to non unx and far less skilled labor, example is the 737 made at the facility in South Carolina with less skilled cheaper workers with their own workers doing their own quality checks not government FAA inspectors.. Argue all you want about this fact but cheaper in this case cost lives. Whether it’s 1 or 1 million. Quality and safety is not worth 1 life regardless of cost. Bravo guys.

Southwest is one of the culprits for Boeing's recent problems. Some can argue 737s should be completely reengineered and released as a new model, but Southwest wanted to keep the same 737 label so it can save millions from pilot certifications. Money is root of all evils

It’s amusing how the 767 manager discusses the 777-8F as if it’s already in production and certified. They’re struggling to certify the 777-9 and address the design and production issues for both variants.

In short, I think they can overcome anything if they embed the right culture from the top down and rid themselves of the crap that came with McNerney and Stonecipher. I don't care if its an engineer, bean counter, or lawyer or mechanic that rose from the bottom running the company. The person in charge needs to understand the people of the company and the company's spirit and not bend the knee to the bottom line.
