When I was a child back in the early 70s, my dad bought our house, and we lived reasonably comfortably. 2 parents and 5 kids, all on my dads wage. He was a plumber. How things have changed.

You work your whole life, get a good education, and still end up sleeping on the streets—at this point, the 'American Dream' is just a bedtime story. Not everyone who's poor is lazy; it's this system that's pushing people to the edge

I'm a retired postal worker and Navy veteran. Since I retired, I've had to bounce around apartments for the past several years because the rent increases overwhelmed me. This is it. I have 8 months to go for my lease renewal. I'm expecting the increase will be unattainable. I'm facing homelessness. I've been preparing to live out of my truck with camping gear. We all live until we die. I'm no different. I'll be damned if I'll ever pledge allegiance to another country or capitalism. I'm on the heroes journey, and that is a solitary road. I accept that.

In Ireland I have never had to pay for a doctor visit or ever had to pay for a medical bill for me or my children. I got my bachelor's degree for free and got paid to go to university. Now I have a stable job in the public sector and no student or medical debts.
It's just a money making business in America.

@arkopro30
In Indian society, we were always told not to trust the government as the government can change their policy to fit their convenience. I believe that most Americans work hard and believe the government without having an understanding of the impact of increased government debt. I understand that the Trump administration is very keen to reduce government debt but trying to reduce the budget on all fronts makes the governance chaotic. It would have been much easier the way Germany worked in rebuilding their national economy in a systematic planning with higher income tax rather than higher indirect tax such as Tariff. Why not learn a lesson from German Chancellor Helmet Khol who convinced West Germany to sacrifice more so that he could build East Germany after German integration. There are many areas where the US has a technology edge and what was needed a comprehensive dialogue with these industries for a possible plan to create local vendors rather than looking for immediate profit by outsourcing to Asian countries.

i was born with a learning disability. but with the help of a vocational rehabilitation program i was able to secure and hold a job for 30 years total with 23 years with one company. but i also decided to not raise a family or buy a house or a brand new car. with the way the American economy is now days. I'm so glad that i never had children only to watch them suffer in this upside down economy. another thing is me being in my seventies and having lived life and knowing that things aren't gonna get any better anytime soon. if i ever become homeless. then i will be game over. I'll never live in the street or in a shelter. sadly the America that i grew up with is no more. unfortunately America's best days are far behind us now

All of these things, especially a dramatic increase in wages, are possible. extreme capitalis won't allow the wealthy to share their wealth. No one needs multiple 1/2 billion dollar homes, several yachts, etc.. prices don't need to continue to rise. Greed is the root of our problems.

People like to rationalize that "others" are all to blame for their own situation but I have been extremely responsible and learned throughout my life that fate has its own plan for you that you may not be able to see coming. I saved every penny only to have it stolen by greedy millionaires and never got it bad. Lost money in a bank collapse that was supposed to be safe. They want us to blame ourselves and each other so that we aren't blaming them.

It's amazing how many people think that they will be able to live decently on Social Security alone. A person needs to start saving for retirement when they get their first job! One big thing is not having more children than you can afford to support and still save for retirement.
